Maudie Mae Puckett
BONO — Maudie Mae Puckett, 96, of Bono died on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Craighead Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 13, 1912, to Ben and Pearl Sheffield. She was a retired cook from Bono School and was a member of Otwell Christian Church.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Tom and Eva Looper and Buddy Puckett, all of Bono, and Neil and Mary Gaye Puckett of Jonesboro; a daughter and her husband, Betty and Bob Reeves of Brookland; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Danny Verdict, Roy and Sara Puckett, Gwen and Mark Vaughn, Greg Puckett and Linda Morris, Sandi and Tommy Trusty, Karen and Lanny Shirley, Errol Tyler, Rhonda and Rob Ingram, Chad and Teresa Puckett, and Holly and Danny Lynn Blalock; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy Puckett; her parents, Ben and Pearl Sheffield; three daughters, Louise Verdict, Wilma Puckett and Margaret Ann Puckett; and a brother, Bob Sheffield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Mitch Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Chad Puckett, Roy Puckett, Greg Puckett, Lanny Shirley, Danny Blalock and Rob Ingram.
Honorary bearers will be the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and Dr. Danny Grubbs.
Visitation will be from 5-8 this evening in the funeral home.

Bill Rylant Sr.
LAFE — Billy Joe “Bill” Rylant, 72, of Lafe died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008.
He was born March 10, 1936, at Walcott to Willie Bruce and Hattie May Lovelady Rylant.
He was a 1955 graduate of Greene County Tech High School. He worked for Kirk Construction and Equipment Co. before joining the U.S. Army in 1958. He spent the next three years as a launch control operator in a surface-to-air missile company and was honorably discharged from service as a specialist E-4.
Upon returning home, he owned and operated Paragould Auto & Truck Repair. In 1976 he began his career for the Greene County Tech School District as the superintendent of transportation, maintenance and grounds.
During his many years in the school system, he took much pride in his leadership roles at both local and state levels. In 1980-81 he was the president of the Greene County Energy Commission, president of the Arkansas Association of Pupil Transportation in 1982-83, president of the Arkansas Plant Management Association in 1985-86, and president of Arkansas School Business Officials in 1991-92.
He served on many state and local committees on education and was named “Arkansas School Business Administrator of the Year” in 1994. Additionally, he served on the Arkansas Association of Education Administrators for 10 years, and he was an advanced school bus driver instructor for the Arkansas Department of Education for 26 years.
He retired from school service in 1998 and became self-employed with Rylant’s HVACR and Asbestos Services, operating the business with his family.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Lafe. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a NASCAR enthusiast.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Archie Rylant, Henry Ray “Hank” Rylant and Virgil Lee Rylant; and one grandson, Zach Rylant.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Rylant of the home; two sons, Bill Rylant Jr. and Andy Rylant of Paragould; one daughter, Crystal Rylant of Lafe; one stepdaughter, Laura (Shepherd) Branch of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Drew Rylant, Chandra Rylant and Blake Rylant of Paragould; four sisters, Alice Mooneyham and Joan Harvey of Paragould, Barbara Lacewell of San Antonio and Patsy Lenderman of Henderson; and one brother, Willie “Bruce” Rylant of Memphis.
Visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould this evening from 6-8.
Funeral services will be held in St. John’s Lutheran Church at Lafe on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Curt Dwyer officiating. Interment will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Tim Brightwell, Perry Lashley, Nick Lashley, Ben Cox, Wilkes Branch, Jerry Sims and L.C. Tedder.
The family requests memorials be made to UAMS Cancer Research Institute and to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Anita Louise Seibert
HARDY — Anita Louise Calbert Seibert, 71, of Hardy passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Ash Flat HealthCare and Rehabilitation Center after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was a former employee and co-owner of Louie’s Appliance and TV in Hardy, which she and her husband, Louie, owned together.
Anita and Louie were both very dedicated members of Spring River Presbyterian Church at Hardy, where she attended regularly and worshipped her Almighty.
She was a past president of the Hardy Garden Club and Bunco Club. She was also involved with many community events and activities throughout her life.
She was a wonderful loving wife of 28 years and a mother who always did her best for her children and grandchildren.
Anita Louise Calbert was born May 15, 1937, at Hutchinson, Kan., to Sid and Charlotte Moss Calbert. She was a 1955 graduate of Newton High School in Newton, Kan.
She was united in marriage to Gerald Dean Smith on Nov. 17, 1956, at Tucumcari, N.M. To this marriage four sons were born. She was united in marriage to Louis “Louie” Seibert on Aug. 28, 1980, at Hardy, where they resided together the past 28 years.
Anita is survived by her husband, Louis “Louie” Seibert of Hardy; sons, Mark (Marla) Smith of Newton, Gary (Mary) Smith of Greeley, Colo., Robert (Pansy) Smith of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Scott Smith of Cherokee Village; brothers, Ronald (Judy) Calbert of Newton and Larry Calbert of Hardy; 14 grandchildren, Angela, Meagan, Maranda, Jesse, Aubry, Ryan, Wyatt, Cooper, Keith, Kyle, Sydney, Emily, Austin and Zachary; one great-grandchild, Natalie Rose; and several nieces and nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Sid and Charlotte Calbert; her first husband, Gerald Dean Smith; and a grandson, Steven Gerald Smith.
A celebration and memorial of life will be held at Spring River Presbyterian Church Saturday at 3 p.m. Additional private family graveside services for her final resting will be held at a later date in Hesston Public Cemetery
at Hesston, Kan.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.

Rebecca Crowe Simmons
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Dr. Rebecca Crowe Simmons, 55, of Knoxville, formerly of Blytheville, died Monday, Sept. 8.
She leaves her husband, Christopher Namovicz of Knoxville; daughter, Jennifer Simmons of Memphis; mother, Rose E. Crowe of Blytheville; sisters, Teri Crowe (Mike) Lawson of Memphis and Dr. LeighAnn Crowe (Dr. John) Frattarelli of Kailua, Hawaii; and one grandchild, James Hall of Memphis.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville with the Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in the funeral home.
Terri Atkinson
JONESBORO — Terri Atkinson, 54, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Skilcare Nursing Center.
She had lived in Jonesboro since 1972. Terri had a love for animals and was active with the Humane Society and other animal groups.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Atkinson and Mr. and Mrs. John Lindley.
Terri is survived by her parents, Tom T. and Janet Atkinson of Jonesboro; brother, Scott Atkins of Nashville, Tenn.; niece, Lindley Atkinson; and nephew, Brett Atkinson.
Visitation will be from 5-7 tonight in Emerson Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ASH FLAT — Sue Thompson Bates, 64, of Ash Flat died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Hospice House at Mountain Home.
Mrs. Bates was the former owner of Sue Bates Advertising. She was the daughter of the late Thad Thompson and the late Hazel Sanford.
Survivors include her husband, Roger C. Bates; daughter, Frankie Smith of Mammoth Spring; son, John Michael Bates of Ash Flat; sisters, Evelyand West of Marion, Phillis Cowan of Melbourne, Gayle Watlington of Williford and Joy Hudspeth of Dallas; brother, Dale Thompson of Velvet Ridge, Larry Thompson of Arkansas and Donald Thompson of Ash Flat.
Funeral services will be in Heath Oak Hill Chapel today at 2 p.m. with Freeling Clower and Van Brown officiating. Interment will be in Ash Flat Cemetery.
Opal C. Hoggard-Eubanks
PARAGOULD — Opal Catherine Hoggard-Eubanks, 85, of Paragould passed away at her home Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008.
She was born Aug. 6, 1923, at Knob to Elic and Margie Sanders. She was retired from Crowley’s Ridge Development Council’s Head Start Program where she worked as the kitchen manager.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Eubanks; three daughters, Sue Clayton, Bren McConnaughhay and her husband Jim, and Melissa Phillips and her husband Kale, all of Paragould; three sisters, Evaline Cobb and Grace Cossey, both of Rector, and Cleta Terry of Kennett, Mo.; four granddaughters, Cathy Callantine and her husband Marty, Jamie Nettle, Mandy Ballard and her husband Patrick, and Lacey Sain and her husband Andy, all of Paragould; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her caretaker, Brenda Morgan.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Hershel Sanders; one sister, Anna Robinson-Graves; and a son-in-law, Bill Clayton.
Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in Phillips Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Forman and the Rev. Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery
at Marmaduke.
Active pallbearers will be Heath Vines, Dr. Bill Fisher, Jake Hampton, Mickey Hoggard, Robert Newell and Richard Dachs.
Floyd Ivy will serve as honorary pallbearer.
