Marvin Jennings Herum

April 5, 1926-Jan. 6, 2009

ASH FLAT — Marvin Jennings Herum, 82, of Ash Flat died Tuesday.

Born to Joseph and Maggie Amdahl Herum in Highland Township, Iowa, in the farmhouse where his father was born, he served in the Army Air Force and traveled much of his life, running heavy equipment and driving trucks. He married Dorothy Rasmussen on Oct. 3, 1964.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathryn Herum of Ash Flat and Tracy and Angela Herum of Cherokee Village; and three grandchildren, Joseph, Whitney and Rebecca.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Highland Hills Baptist Church.

Florine Hensley Hoffman

JONESBORO — Florine Hensley Hoffman, 81, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Jan. 8, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

She was born at Alicia into the family of Wilson and Delia Bartlett. She was retired from General Electric and was of the Southern Baptist belief.

She is survived by one son, Jimmy Ross Hensley of Jonesboro; one daughter, Shelia Lawrence of Austin; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Glenna Johnson of Swifton, Marvolyn Smith of Missouri and Jean Bennett of Egypt.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Active pallbearers will include Stanley Honeycutt, Mark Ruppel, Arlie Dean Bennett, Leroy Lawrence, Aaron Hulett and Glenn Lough.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Bruce Tippitt officiating. Burial will follow in Strangers Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Randy Lynn Hoskins

JONESBORO — Randy Lynn Hoskins, 49, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at his home of natural causes.

Born at Flint, Mich., Randy was a 1978 graduate of Jonesboro High School. He lived in Richardson, Texas, for 24 years before moving back to Jonesboro in 2004.

He was a project engineer in the telecommunications industry and worked several years for Cais Internet in Dallas.

Randy was a member of Covenant Church in Dallas and enjoyed water skiing, scuba diving and the computer. He was a helicopter pilot and an avid auto mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Hoskins of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Matt Hoskins of Paragould and Josh and Lanna Hoskins of Brookland; one daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Tyler Bounds of Jonesboro; his parents, Bobby and June Hoskins of Piggott; one sister, Kim Young of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; and one granddaughter, Olivia Bounds.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis 38105.

Willene Hubbard

KENNETT, Mo. — Willene Hubbard, 81, of Kennett passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009.

McDaniel Funeral Service will be in charge of arrangements. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Kennett with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Ed Jansson will officiate.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Kennett First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Willene French Hubbard, daughter of the late Emmett Bell French and Sarah McCord French, was born Aug. 3, 1927, at Hardy, and departed this life Jan. 7, 2009, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 4 days. Willene married Jerry D. Hubbard on Feb. 11, 1951.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry D. Hubbard of Kennett; son, Stephen Wayne Hubbard and wife Martha of Jones­boro; two daughters, Jeris Ann Cash and husband Rickie of Paragould, and Debra Ann Lyons and husband Thomas of Kennett; eight grandchildren, Mark Ashley Cash and wife Whitney, Sarah Ann Spann and husband David, Allyson Ann Maxwell and husband Grant, Joel Thomas Lyons, Nathan Wayne Lyons, Jeremy Hubbard Lyons, Hilary Renae Hubbard and Mackenzie Elizabeth Hubbard; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera Cooper of St. Louis and Eva Hanks of Hazen; other relatives and friends.

Willene was preceded in death by a brother, Emmett Bell French Jr.

Willene was a Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Kennett.

James Kirby Jr.

BLYTHEVILLE — James Kirby Jr., 80, of Blytheville died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Great River Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Kirby. Mr. Kirby is also survived by four sons, seven daughters, one brother, three sisters, 32 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other family and friends.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Prince of Peace Spiritual Church with burial in Memory Garden Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in Wilson Funeral Home of Blythe­ville.

Darrell A. Lewis

JONESBORO — Darrell A. Lewis, 69, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at his home.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pam Waldrup officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alma Lee Mobley

April 26, 1921-Jan. 7, 2009

NEWPORT — Mrs. Alma Lee Anderson Mobley, 87, of Newport died Wednesday.

She was born at Cord, the daughter of Alfred Roy and Golda Walker Anderson.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leburne Adam Mobley; one brother, Van Ray Anderson of Cord; one sister, Billie Jean Carter of North Little Rock; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Oak Ridge United Methodist Church at Cord. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home.

Murray Wilson Reichen

PINE BLUFF — Murray Wilson Reichen, 91, of Pine Bluff died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 8, 1917, at Pine Bluff, the son of Frank S. and Bettie Elizabeth Wilson Reichen. Mr. Reichen was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Reichen worked for Arkansas Power and Light (now Entergy) as its billing supervisor for 10 years. He worked for General Waterworks (now United Water) for 37 years, retiring as its general manager in 1983. Mr. Reichen was honored when General Waterworks dedicated the Murray W. Reichen Water Treatment Plant in 1991.

He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, church administrator and Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of Quapaw Lodge 730 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Little Rock and life member of Sahara Temple.

Mr. Reichen was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Christian Reichen and Franklin Reichen.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie Shaw Reichen, whom he married Feb. 22, 1946, in Pine Bluff; daughter, Donna Reichen Shipman (Marlin) of Jonesboro; sister, Merle Reichen of Pine Bluff; one granddaughter, Sarah Jordan (Matt) of Fairfax, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Nicholas Jordan.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Central Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Freeman officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 6300 Trinity Drive, Pine Bluff 71603.

Dorothy Isabell Ritchie

NEWPORT — Dorothy Isabell Cale Ritchie, 77, of Newport died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.S. Ritchie Sr.; one son, Andy Ray Ritchie; parents, James and Ola Cale; one brother, James E. Cale; and one sister, Myrtle Evers.

She is survived by two sons, Randy Ritchie and O.S. Ritchie Jr., both of Newport; three daughters, Dottie Calhoun and husband Eugene of Newport, Donna Mabry of Newport, and Jennifer Shetron and husband Shannon of Batesville; two granddaughters, Dawn and Caitlyn Mabry, both of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dillinger Chapel. A private burial will follow at a later date. Arrangements are provided by Dillinger Funeral Home at Newport.

Mercedes I. Ryan

WALNUT RIDGE — Mercedes I. Ryan, 84, of Walnut Ridge died Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Surviving are sons, Jack Ryan of Wynne, Terry Ryan and Tim Ryan of Walnut Ridge, Mark Ryan of Rogers and Maurice Ryan of Spring, Texas; daughters, Sharon Askins of Fayetteville, N.C., Mary Ryan and Marie Ryan, both of Little Rock, and June Duckworth of Walnut Ridge; sisters, Clara Price of Pharr, Texas, and Elaine Hoelscher of Pocahontas; brother, Joe (Colonel) Thennes of Flippin; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Services will be Saturday morning at 10 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at Walnut Ridge. Interment will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8.
