Herbert Orville Draper

Aug. 25, 1919-Feb. 12, 2009

ASH FLAT — Herbert O. Draper, 89, of Ash Flat passed away Thursday night at his home.

Born at Wayne City, Ill., to Curtis O. and Carolyn Ruth Powell Draper, he married Venita June Fenton on Nov. 16, 1962.

Survivors include eight children, Dava Austin, Rodney McCormick, Lisa Long, Lori Gentry, Russell Draper, Robert Draper, Richard Draper and Angela Doty; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. today in Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Olive Branch Church with burial following in the Olive Branch Cemetery.

William H. Gossett

JONESBORO — Sgt. William H. Gossett, 59, of Jonesboro died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He had lived his life in the Jonesboro area and was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. William served his country during the Vietnam War and was the former Service Officer and chaplain for VFW Post 1991.

William was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Brenda Gossett of the home; one son, William E. Gossett of Memphis; two daughters, Heather M. Nix and husband Jud of Jonesboro and Jamie Baker of the home; two brothers, Dewayne Gossett and Tony Gossett, both of Jonesboro; one sister, Rose Ann Taylor of Jonesboro; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Toombs officiating. Burial will follow at Macey Cemetery near Monette. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Bud Sutton, Harold Barber, Heath Harris, Patrick Gardner, Curt Bryant and Jerry Taylor.

Visitation will be from 2-4 Sunday afternoon in Emerson.

Charles C. McCoy Sr.

MONETTE — Charles Clifton McCoy Sr., 72, of Monette died Thursday, Feb. 12, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

Born at Childress, he was the son of the late Jack and Dollie Conner McCoy and had been a longtime Monette resident. He was a retired cotton ginner with Kiech-Shauver-Miller Gin Co. at Monette. He was a charter member of Second Baptist Church of Leachville and of Masonic Lodge 558 at Monette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Betty McCoy, in 2005; a daughter, Susan McCoy; and a brother, Michael McCoy.

Survivors include two sons, David McCoy of Leachville and Charles McCoy of Bono; three daughters, Helen McCoy and Mary McCoy, both of Monette, and Teresa Puckett of Leachville; five brothers, Raymond McCoy of Memphis, Harvey McCoy of Edgemont, Jackie Wayne McCoy, Melvin McCoy and Tony McCoy, all of Leachville; three sisters, Glenda Long of Leachville, Henrietta Walker of Horseshoe Bend and Jennie Cox of Paragould; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Howard Funeral Chapel at Leachville with the Rev. Russel Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 this evening in the funeral home.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Paul Kennett, Coy McCoy, Chad McCoy, Tim Long, Colin Miller and Brent Cox.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Kennett, Lloyd Carmichael, Wendell “Dink” Gadberry and members of Masonic Lodge 558.

Terry Wayne Pyland

CARAWAY — Terry Wayne Pyland, 49, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 26, 1959, at Jonesboro. A lifetime resident of Caraway, he was a carpenter and member of Community of Christ Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Tara and Dylan Flores of Bartlett, Tenn.; a son, Tim Crews; his mother, Linda Pyland; a brother, Lynn Pyland, all of Caraway; a granddaughter, Nadia Flores of Barlett.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Eugene Pyland; a brother, Lee Pyland; maternal grandparents, Bruce and Ruby Murphy; and paternal grandparents, Claude and Cleo Pyland.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Community of Christ Church at Caraway with Gary Earnhart and Tad Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service in the church.

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Bill Carle, Jeff Crews, Mark Bowman, Jimmy Lane, Jason Bice and John Coggins, and as honorary pallbearers, Mike Wallace, Dallas Benson, Kenny Woodiel, Merett Emery, Hunter Miller, Curtis Miller, Gary Overman, Barry Emery, Scott Snodgrass, Tad Rogers, Skip Rogers and Steve Ballard.

Sue Workman

MANILA — Sue Workman, 78, of Manila died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at her home.

She was born Feb. 11, 1931, in the Lost Cane community near Manila to the late Walter David and Lillie Bell Lane Vastbinder. She was a homemaker, member of Little River Missionary Baptist Church and an active participant in the Manila Alumni Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Workman.

Mrs. Workman leaves her children, Jeanne McCullough and her husband Allen, and Terri Fleeman, all of Manila, and David Workman and his wife Chandra of Paragould; four sisters-in-law and their husbands, Agnes Canamore of Lilbourn, Mo., Helen and Joe Perkins of Elaine, Bernell and Jimmy Baugher of Manila and Laura Bewley of Russellville; six grandchildren, Freddie Russell Fleeman, Jodie Emmert, Christopher Fleeman and Joshua McCullough, all of Manila; and Alexandria Thresher and Michael Wyatt, both of Paragould; and one great-grandchild, Siarra Fleeman of Leachville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Little River Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. G.W. Endicott officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 tonight in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville.

William Branch Jr.

EARLE — William “Billy” Branch Jr., 55, of Earle died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Survivors include his mother, Geneva Branch; daughters, Candy Richardson, Misty Pace and Lacey Jo Branch; grandmother, Almeda Branch; sisters, Cathy Myrick, Angela Weaver and Vicki Parsons; and brothers, Ricky Branch, Steve Branch, Gary Branch, Jimmy Branch, Kevin Branch and Michael Branch.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday in Wilson Funeral Home at Blytheville.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery at Blytheville.

Betty Jo Brandon

HOXIE — Betty Jo Brandon, 59, died Friday, Feb. 20, at Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Gambrell; and brother, James Gambrell.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel Brandon of the home; her mother, Berta Shannon Gambrell; daughters, Christina Brown and Victoria Chase; sons, Michael Posey, Richard Lovelady, Samuel, William and Jedidiah Brandon; sister, Barbara Jones; brothers, William and Donald Gambrell; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oak Forest Cemetery at Black Rock with Danny Whitmire officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

No visitation is planned.

Amanda M. Cerrato

JONESBORO — Amanda Marlana Hodges Cerrato, 27, of Jonesboro died Friday afternoon at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.

Curtis D. Green

TRUMANN — Curtis Dee Green, 70, of Trumann died Friday morning, Feb. 20, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

He was born and had spent most of his lifetime in Trumann. He was director of transportation, maintenance and housekeeping for the Trumann Public School System.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mary Jo Smith Green, in 2001; one sister, Mary Ellar Green; and was the son of the late William Dee and Della Jean McCarty Green.

Survivors include his wife, Martha E. Walker Green of the home; one daughter, Sherry Bane of Trumann; one son, Curtis Dewayne Green of Trumann; one stepdaughter, Michelle Crain of Trumann; one stepson, David Bryan Tucker of Trumann; two sisters, Shelby Jean Shelton and Jewel Dean Creecy, both of Trumann; one brother, the Rev. Kenneth Green of Trumann; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann with the Rev. Kenneth Green and Sister Shelby Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Potters Memorial Cemetery at Lepanto.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Frances Hood

LITTLE ROCK — Mrs. Frances Hood, 96, of Little Rock, formerly of Burdette, died Wednesday, Feb. 18.

She was a bookkeeper for Burdette Plantation and later postmistress of the Burdette post office.

She leaves her daughter, Mary Ann Cumberland of Little Rock; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville with the Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 715 West Walnut St., Blytheville 72315, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jesse Myers

WYNNE — Jesse Myers, 75, of Wynne passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Wynne.

Survivors are his wife, Martha Davis Myers of the home; son, Brandon Rickard of the home; daughters, Misty Griffin and Sheila Webster of Wynne; Jessica Rickard of the home; brothers, Harry S. Myers of Cleveland, Miss.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Smith Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Kernodle Funeral Home.
