Cecil Argus Turner

NEWPORT — Cecil Argus Turner, 89, of Newport died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cecilia; parents, George and Rowena Turner; two brothers; and four sisters.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Dillinger Chapel with burial in White Lake Cemetery.

No visitation is planned.

Arrangements will be provided by Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport.

Roy Wiles Jr.

WEINER — Roy Wiles Jr., 79, of Weiner passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 5-6 this evening for the family and from 6-8 this evening for friends in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home at Jonesboro. Service time will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Weiner Volunteer Fire Department.

Edward ‘Ed’ Ball

JONESBORO — Edward “Ed” Ball, 71, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Roberta Lynn Brown

POCAHONTAS — Roberta “Robin” Lynn Brown, 54, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at home.

She was born July 8, 1954, at Imboden. Roberta was a graduate of Williams Baptist and worked at Wal-Mart for two years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Logan Crawford; and a sister, Sharon Richey Hampton.

She is survived by her mother, Barbara Jane Crawford; three children, Sherry Fuller of Pocahontas and Melissa and Janice Daniel of Louisiana; sisters, Vickie Gwaltney of Pocahontas and Michelle Dalla Rosa of Paragould; brother, Michael Crawford of Gentry; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sutton Cemetery with Randy Scott officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 this evening in the chapel.

Rama F. Burks

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Mrs. Rama F. Burks, 78, of North Little Rock, formerly of Blytheville, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Arkansas Hospice Inpatient Center in Little Rock.

She leaves her daughter, Lisa Burks of Conway; her sister, Virginia Hardison of Collierville, Tenn.; and her grandchildren, Christopher Burks of Conway and Brooke Burks of Blytheville.

A private memorial service will be held. Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be sent to the Mississippi County Senior Citizens Center’s Meals on Wheels, 1101 David Lane, Blytheville 72315.

Charles Harrington

BLYTHEVILLE — Charles Calvin “Rocky” Harrington, 75, of Blytheville died Friday, Feb. 27.

He leaves his wife, Becky Harrington of the home; daughter, Keeli Harrington Ray of Blytheville; mother, Vera Louise Ledbetter Harrington of Manila; brother, Larry Harrington (Susan) of Searcy; sisters, Mary Varieur (Russ) of California, Carol Smith (Bond) of Tennessee and Pam Middleton (Buddy) of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the Armorel Baptist Church under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.

No visitation will be held, and interment will be private.

Mary Lillian Howard

PARAGOULD — Mary Lillian Howard, 94, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 26, at Paragould.

Mrs. Howard was a nurse’s aide at Home for the Golden Years and member of Seventh & Mueller Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughters, Lena Spillman and Mary Barrett; special sister, Mozelle Rowland; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Heath Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Heath Colonial Chapel with Art Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Home Cemetery.

Marjorie Johnson

BLYTHEVILLE — Mrs. Marjorie Johnson, 82, of Blythe-ville died Friday, Feb. 27, at her home.

She leaves her children, Garald Johnson and Mary Jo Johnson, both of Memphis, Ralph Johnson (Debbie) of Lamar and Treena Bennett (Tommy) of Blytheville; grandchildren, Tamara Hicks (Troy) and Trudy Bennett; and great-grandchildren, Tiffany Thaxton, Tanner Hicks and Tyler Landry.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Blytheville with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville with rosary service at 7 following visitation.

Larry Jones

TRUMANN — Larry Jones, 58, of Trumann died Tuesday, Feb. 24, at his home.

He was an Army veteran and member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby of the home; daughter, Katrina Jones of Streamwood, Ill.; stepdaughters, Razshonna Reed, Jerlondra Williams and Jerri Clark, all of Malvern; stepson, Frankie Butler of Malvern; sister, Sherry Adams; brother, Terry Jones, both of Trumann; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Victory Chapel of Woodard Funeral Service of Marked Tree. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery at Jonesboro.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Mildred Elmyra Layer

RECTOR — Mildred Mills Layer of Rector passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at her residence. She was 79 years old.

Mildred was born to the late William and Ida Kriegle Mills in Clay County. She was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church for 50-plus years.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter, Lana Shan Layer; and six brothers, Roy Mills, Alvin Mills, Chalmer Mills, Marvin “Pete” Mills, Carl Mills and Johnny Mills.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, W.O. Layer; one son and his wife, Robert and Regina Layer of Paragould; two daughters, Mickey Ann and husband James Thompson of Spring, Texas, and Michele Layer of Rector; three grandchildren, Rebecca and Derrick Dale of Spring, Matthew and Melissa Thompson of Olive Branch, Miss., and Amanda Layer of Rector; two stepgrandchildren, Josh Noel and his son Zake of Paragould, and Justin Noel of Bryant; a sister-in-law, Aleen Mills of Paragould; and a sister niece, Garnetta Thomas of Rector.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Irby Funeral Home at Rector with Adrian Parker officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday.

Mildred Bullock McCoy

LITTLE ROCK — Mildred Bullock McCoy, 87, of Little Rock died Friday, Feb. 27, at the Presbyterian Village in Little Rock.

She had been in poor health for the past several years.

Mrs. McCoy was born Aug. 22, 1921, at Bullocktown, Ind., and was the daughter of Alva Bullock and Helen Crenshaw Bullock. She graduated from Forrest City High School in 1939 and afterward moved to Brinkley, was a past employee of AT&T, a librarian and a Baptist.

She married Dale McCoy; he preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Keith French of Little Rock; one daughter, Suzanne Siebert of Little Rock; one sister, Norma Jean Gibbs of Alexandria, La.; three grandchildren, Kathleen, Kristopher and Keila; and four great-grandchildren, Jerry, Elizabeth, Andrew and Emma.

Services for Mrs. McCoy will be held graveside at 11 a.m. Monday in Forrest Park Cemetery at Forrest City. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.
