Edward Begley

CHERRY VALLEY — Edward Begley, 66, of Cherry Valley passed away Thursday, March 19.

Survivors include his daughters, Krista Yvonne Childers of Illinois, Terra Leigh Boykin of Cherry Valley and Angie Kay Kirk of South Carolina; brothers, Wesley Begley, Wade Begley and Stanely Begley, all of Kentucky; sisters, Lois Begley, Betty McIntosh and Freda Mosley, all of Kentucky; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon today in Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Vanndale Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 until service time in the funeral home.

Marilla Elline Gill

JONESBORO — Marilla Elline Gill, 89, of Jonesboro died Friday morning.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.

Philip Gene Hancock

SEDGWICK — Philip Gene Hancock, 50, of Sedgwick passed away Friday, March 20, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He leaves behind his son, Philip “Rocko” Hancock of Jonesboro; two daughters, Joy Prater of Hoxie and Carla Hancock of Idaho; mother, Ruthie McKenzie; three sisters, Sheila Findley of Sedgwick, Sophia Perry of Bono and Carol Leonard of Jonesboro; and four grandchildren, Michael Copeland and Page Deboser, both of Hardy, Bailey Prater of Hoxie and Shelby Johnson of Portia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Hancock; and brother, Ricky Hancock.

Graveside funeral services and burial will begin at 2 p.m. today in Lorado Cemetery with John Snyder officiating. No visitation is planned.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Arthur Hickman

NEW ORLEANS — Arthur Wayne Hickman, 56, of New Orleans died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at a New Orleans hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1952, in Louisiana to Ruth M. Coley McClary and the late Elmer Hickman Jr.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth McClary of Indianapolis; sons, Kenneth Wayne Marks and David Allen Marks, both of Indianapolis; brother, Eddie D. Green of Cave City; stepsister, Lynn Chance of Cave City; and three grandsons.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cave City Cemetery with Jeff Holland officiating under direction of Qualls Cave City Funeral Home.

Betty Lou Holder

PARAGOULD — Betty Lou Hibbard Holder, 85, of Paragould died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Born July 15, 1923, in the Bloomer community in Sebastian County, she was the daughter of William N. and Mattie Lee Larimore Hibbard. She was raised in Walnut Ridge, where she attended school and lived until 1962, when she moved to Paragould.

She was a homemaker and retired secretary and bookkeeper at Paragould High School. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She married Darrell Holder in 1942; he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, C. Richard Holder and Ben Holder, both of Paragould; two brothers, Bill Hibbard of O’Kean and Leon Hibbard of Walnut Ridge; four grandchildren, John Holder, Alan Holder, Kerie Martin and Valerie Holder; and a great-grandson, Devin Holder.

A funeral service will be held at 7th and Mueller Church of Christ at Paragould at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Larry McFadden as the officiant. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Cemetery at Walnut Ridge under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday in the church.

James Edward McFarlin

MONETTE — James Edward “Bubby” McFarlin departed this life Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 19, 1945, at Cardwell, Mo., to Woodrow and Nina Louise Osment McFarlin.

He was a retired farmer, maintenance man and bus driver. He was an active member of Monette Church of Christ and Mo-nette Masonic Lodge 558.

He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow McFarlin; his brothers, Charles and Joe McFarlin; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alice McFarlin of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Joe May of Amity; his mother, Louise McFarlin of Monette; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Noble Cullum of Monette; his sister-in-law, Frances Hite of Hillsboro, Mo.; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Betty Pendergraft of Caraway.

He was a loving PaPa to his two precious granddaughters, Alex and Shana May of Amity. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Monette Church of Christ with Art Smith, Eddie Dunigan, Joe May and Charles Hughes officiating.

Burial with Masonic services will be in Monette Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Kent Cullum, Jesse Hite, Robert Hite, Steve Hite, Mark Hite, Michael Hite, John Allen Pendergraft, Keith Pendergraft, Jerry Halsey Sr. and Joel Cullen.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Monette Masonic Lodge 558, Dr. Trent Lamb, Dr. Clint Edwards, W.T. Bibb, Jenendal Bibb, Barbara Halsey, Jerry Lynn Halsey Jr., Doyal and Kim Jones, Chris and Tiffany Barnes, Sam and Tammie Hiser, Tom and Vicki Carroll, Dale and Tracey Haas, Bobby Shirley, Jackie Gathright, Dennis Cobb, Dennis Davis, Byron and Janie Sparkman, Noel and Pat Eggers, Blaine and Terri Higginbotham, Kevin Baldridge, Rickey Copeland, Jamie Strickland, Allen Dewitt, Homer Craig, John Stull and Bob and Marie George.

Visitation will be from 6-9 this evening in Monette Church of Christ.

Those wishing to leave lasting memorials are asked to consider Monette Church of Christ, Children’s Homes Inc. at Paragould or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at Memphis.

James Ballard

LEACHVILLE — James A. “Booster” Ballard, 82, of Leachville died Friday at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born near Heber Springs, he was the son of the late Jacob and Mable Wallace Ballard and had been a Leachville resident since 1955. He was retired from Hytrol Conveyor in Jonesboro and was a member of the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God. Mr. Ballard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ballard, in 1976.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Crews Ballard of the home; two sons, Larry and Jake (Patricia) Ballard, both of Leachville; one brother, Marion Ballard of Little Rock; one sister, Helen Blevins of Leachville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with the Rev. Huey Meherg officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery. The family will recieve visitors from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Kay Bennett

TUCKERMAN — Kay Bennett, 43, of Tuckerman died Friday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Bennett.

She is survived by son, Bobby Bennett of Tuckerman; parents, Bob and Mary Helms of Newport; brother, Kenny Helms of Searcy; sister, Starr Willard of Newport; boyfriend, Michael Tidwell of Newport; nieces, Nini Hardin and Tristy Toddy; nephews, Michael and Russell Toddy; three great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday at Sullins Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Vivian Crider

WALNUT RIDGE — Vivian Crider, 96, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson D. Crider; daughter, Glenna Crider Orf; son, Donald Crider; sister, Wanda Hawk; and brothers, Eber and Othar Campbell.

Survivors include two sisters, Lillian Mock and Velma Robert, both of Walnut Ridge; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home, 11101 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, Mo. Visitation will be from noon until time of service.

Murr Durham

STRAWBERRY — Murr Durham departed this life on April 17, 2009, at the age of 93 years, nine months and nine days.

He was born on July 8, 1915, at Strawberry to Charles (Charlie) and Sophronia Little Durham. He was united in marriage on Nov. 27, 1938, to Marjorie Massey of Strawberry. He was a farmer and a member of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Strawberry.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Durham, on June 30, 2008; his parents; two sons, Jerry Dean Durham and an infant son; son-in-law, Charles Bratcher; two brothers, Roscoe Ward and Fred Durham; and one sister, Mildred Glenn.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Bratcher and Deanna Wrenn and husband Stan, all of Strawberry; a daughter-in-law, Connie Durham of Batesville; nine grandchildren, Roger Ward, Scott Ward, Regina Bell, Bob Bratcher, Tim Durham, Tiffanie Randolph, Chuck Wrenn, Jessica McGaha and Sherri Brady; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at Strawberry with Charles Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Little Jerusalem Cemetery in Strawberry under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Lynn.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday in House-Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Lynn.

Pallbearers are Roger Ward, Scott Ward, Bob Bratcher, Tim Durham, Chuck Wrenn and Jim Bell.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Randolph, Clay Ward, Spencer Ward, Justin Bell, Chase Wrenn, Shaun McGaha, Ryan Ward, Dustin Ward, Zak Bratcher, Chad Wrenn, Hunter Durham and Brandon McGaha.

Vicki Foster

PARAGOULD — Vicki Foster, 54, of Paragould died Thursday at The Med in Memphis.

Vicki was a third-grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, a member of the ADK Teachers Sorority, AEA, NEA, Paragould Classroom Teachers Association, an avid tennis player, and she loved to travel. She was a member of Center Hill First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis I. and Ruby Thompson Rasberry.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Foster of the home; daughter, Erica Foster of Ballwin, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Natalie Foster of Alexandria, Va., and granddaughter, Ennis Ruby Foster of Alexandria.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at Heath Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday at 4 p.m. in Center Hill First Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Camp officiating.

Burial will follow in Hartsoe Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Bruce, Tony Case, Rick Wooldridge, Gary Thompson, Byron Rasberry and Bill Blackshear.
