Carmen E. Guthrie

CAVE CITY — Carmen E. Guthrie, 93, of Cave City passed away Friday.

Survivors include nephews, Ronnie Milligan of Bethesda and David and John Sammons, both of Lancaster, Calif.; niece, Cathy Goodwin of Calamine; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Strawberry Church of Christ with Tommy Boles and Greg Cooper officiating. Interment will be in the Lancaster Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the Strawberry Church of Christ.

Clarence Jobe

JONESBORO — Clarence Lavone Jobe, 50, of Jonesboro passed away on Friday, April 17, 2009.

He leaves behind his sons, Aaron Jobe, Ashley Jobe and Heath Jobe; his mother, Letha Haines; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Linda Estes and Phyllis Martin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Jobe, and a sister, Kathy Clayton.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at Holloway Cemetery with Danny Tims officiating. Visitation will be held Monday before the service from 10 a.m.-noon at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will include Danny Moss, Dr. Kevin Hoke, Barry French, Dusty Tims, Danny Tims and Dale Trout.

Vivian Jones

McCRORY — Vivian Adeline “Bip” Jones, 93, of McCrory died Saturday.

She is survived by sons, James and Robert Ladd; daughters, Kathleen Jouveneau, Barbara Hawkins, Wanda Wilson and Thurna Morgan; stepdaughter, Betty Runyan; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Ladd; sister, Flonie Strange; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 Monday afternoon at McCrory Church of Christ with burial in White Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Arrangements by Dillinger Funeral Home.

Thomas Steve Malloy

MANILA — Thomas Steve Malloy, 55, of Manila died Thursday at his home.

Born at Manila, he was a 1971 graduate of Manila High School and a lifelong area resident. He retired from United Parcel Service after 25 years of service and began a second career in law enforcement. He had served as a deputy sheriff for the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department since 2003. Steve was a published author, having written many articles for SWAT magazine and Varmint magazine. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Rhodes Malloy of Manila; one son, Ross Malloy; one daughter, Stacey Malloy; his parents, F.J. “Junior” and Nina Malloy; and one sister and brother-in-law, Tammi and Barry Scott, all of Manila.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Chaplain Don Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will recieve visitors from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be Mississippi County deputy sheriffs.

Virgil ‘Blue’ McNatt

MONETTE — Virgil “Blue” McNatt, 80, of Monette, formerly of Jonesboro, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at Woodbriar Nursing Center in Harrisburg.

Born in Craighead County, Virgil lived much of his life in Jonesboro and Monette. For many years he owned and operated McNatt’s Service Station and Bait Shop. He enjoyed doing yard work and was of the Methodist belief.

Virgil was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry McNatt and Billy McNatt; six brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline McNatt of Monette; one son, Donald Knight of Radom, Ill.; one daughter, Peggy Knight of Caraway; one sister, Willadean Dunn of Jonesboro; and one grandson, Justin McNatt of Brookland.

Funeral services and burial will be private. There will be no visitation.

Ruby Estell Overfield

GRUBBS — Mrs. Ruby Estell Daniels Overfield, 96, of Grubbs died Thursday, April 16, 2009.

She was born March 9, 1913, at Murray, Ky., the daughter of Joe and Pearl Wilson Daniels.

She was a homemaker and member of the Assembly of God at Weiner. Mrs. Overfield enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.E. “Bill” Overfield; one son, Bobby Overfield; one brother, J.L. Daniels; and two sister, Leotia Rowland and Grace Mitchell.

Mrs. Overfield is survived by five sons, Charles Overfield of Clarkston, Mich., Donald Overfield of Thayne, Wyo., William “Butch” Overfield of Cody, Wyo., Roger Overfield of Amagon and Ricky Overfield of Boise, Idaho; nine daughters, Gracie Lee Brown Priest of Osceola, JoAnn Priest of Cash, Patsy Morgan of Jonesboro, Jane Higgs of Zeeland, Mich., Sue Greer of Union City, Tenn., Glenda Browder of Springfield, Va., Donna London and June Lloyd, both of Grubbs and Sherry Trotter of Weiner; 55 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery at Uno.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Weiner First Assembly of God, P.O. Box 302, Weiner 72479, Arkansas Hospice, Clark Cemetery Fund of Grubbs Fire Department.

Arrangements are by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Albert E. Qualls

JONESBORO — Albert E. Qualls, 79, of Jonesboro died Saturday morning at his home of natural causes.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora Qualls, of the home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.

Joe Eddie Rawls

PARAGOULD — Joe Eddie Rawls, 78, Paragould died Saturday at his home.

He was a farmer and retired from Martin, Sprocket and Gear.

He was born May 1, 1930, in Beech Grove, the son of the late William and Lucy Russom Rawls. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Chlistia “Kate” Len Rawls; sisters, Euna Smith, Dessie Wren and Clora Manzo; brothers, Harvey, D.W. and Earnie Rawls.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Randy Dunlap; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie Gale and Debbie Rawls, Billy Don and Barbara Rawls and Jeffrey Thomas and Pam Rawls; sister, Vernie Dowdy, all of Paragould; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with L.R. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Morrow Cemetery. His grandsons will be pallbearers and his nephews honorary pallbearers.

William H. Reece

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — William Harris “Bill” Reece, 87, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Reece was born April 20, 1921, in Baldwyn, Miss. Attending high school in Arkansas, he later completed three years at an Arkansas agriculture college in Valley View. Mr. Reece was a member of Twin Springs Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. The owner and operator of a heavy equipment construction company for a number of years, he later retired from Strickland Transportation Co. He was an avid horseman and was widely known for breeding and training quality horses. Mr. Reece was a charter member of the Big River Appaloosa Horse Club, a charter member of Cardiac Cowboys and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served 22 months in Iran, 10 months in France, Belgium and Germany and received three bronze stars and a good conduct medal. Mr. Reece was a member of the SEMO Veteran’s Honor Guard, AMVETS, V.F.W. and American Legion. He was also a member of the Naylor Masonic Lodge, was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Three Rivers Shrine Club.

On March 16, 2006, he married Virginia (Albers) Stanley in Nashville. She survives him.

Other survivors include his son, Terry L. Reece of Jonesboro; daughters, Rebecca June Rigsbee and husband Tom of Woodbridge, Va., and Dana Susan Wilson of Bartlett, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Connie McAlister and husband Jesse of Pendergrass, Ga.; grandchildren, Allison Jumper, Amy Wilson, Eric Wilson, Ryan Reece and Drew Rigsbee; stepgrandchildren, Conner McAlister and Shane McAlister; great-grandchildren, Jacob Tomlinson, Reece Jumper, Cross Jumper and Baylee Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His parents, William Pink and Florence Virginia (Hendrix) Reece; sisters, Audrey Holmes, Edna Cartwright, Bruce Davidson, Ora Lee McArthur and Helen Noles; brother, J.W. Reece; and grandparents, Ruben and Fanny Reece, preceded Mr. Reece in death.

Visitation will begin at 5 tonight at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with a Masonic service (which is open to the public) following at 7 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Obed Kirkpatrick officiating and the Rev. Lloyd Anderson assisting. Burial with full military honors presented by the SEMO Veteran’s Honor Guard will be at the Philadelphia Cemetery in Jonesboro.

The family has requested memorials be made to UCAN (United Cancer Assistance Network), 1419 Maud St., Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63901, or to Haven House (Center for Battered Women and Children), c/o Cotrell Funeral Service, P.O. Box 548, Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63902.

Arthur Reeves

POCAHONTAS — Arthur Reeves, 87, of Pocahontas died Friday, April 17, 2009, at his home.

Arthur married Wilma Allison on July 31, 1944, in Walnut Ridge.

Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife, Wilma; two daughters, Shirley Poe and Judy Davis of Pocahontas; two grandchildren, Lisa Wiesnth and Tammy Blankenship; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First United Penecostal Church of Pocahontas, with the Rev. Jerry Cochran and Bill Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Chesser Cemetery in Pocahontas. Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

John L. Sheets

TRUMANN — John L. Sheets, 79, of Trumann died Friday, April 17, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
