Jerry W. Taylor

LAKE WALES, Fla. — Jerry W. Taylor of Lake Wales, Fla., formerly of Leachville, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009, at his residence due to complications of a stroke.

He was born Aug. 26, 1936, in Cardwell, Mo., to the late Aaron Albert and Sylvia Marie Phelps Taylor. He moved to Florida in 1956. He was the former owner-operator of The Alignment Shop, a driver for Flint’s Wrecker Service and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved to hunt and fish.

He loved his kids and grandkids and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Jean Taylor; daughter, Marie DeLong of Charleston, S.C.; son, Timothy Taylor (Mary) of Lake Wales; stepdaughters, Chyrl Patton and Connie Long, both of Lake Wales, Cindy Sanford of Gibsonton, Fla., and Donna Blanchard of Lake Wales; stepson, Jimmy Herrod of Elwood, Ind.; sisters, Joan Macker of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Judy Mangrum of Leachville; brothers, Don Taylor of Lake Wales and Charles Taylor of Arkansas; stepmother, Adna Taylor of Leachville; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with the Rev. Steve Livingston officiating. Interment followed in Lake Wales Cemetery.

Ollie Turner

WEST MEMPHIS — Ollie Murphy Sheley Turner, 79, of West Memphis died Thursday, April 16, 2009.

She was born June 30, 1930, at Cherry Valley to Bernard Murphy and Gracie Ann “Bessie” Sumpter Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, one brother and four sisters.

Survivors include two sons, five daughters, three brothers, five sisters, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home with interment in Misner Cemetery at Cherry Valley.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Robert Westbrook

JONESBORO — Robert Wheeler Westbrook Sr., 79, of Jonesboro, formerly of Blytheville, died Friday, April 17, 2009.

Born in Jonesboro on Dec. 7, 1929, Robert lived much of his life in Blythe-ville, where he worked for AP&L for 28 years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Blytheville, where he served as a deacon. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy. While in Jonesboro, he was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Jesse L. and Mae Westbrook Sr. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Tommie Westbrook.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Westbrook of Jonesboro; his son, Robert Westbrook Jr. of Henderson; his daughter, Jeanie Pechilis of Jonesboro; his brother, J.L. Westbrook Jr. of Blytheville; and one grandchild, Nicholas Pechilis of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro at Oaklawn Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Tom Murrey, Don Waddell, Ron Waddell, James Bourland, Paul Burrow, Mark Bryles, Buddy Harris and Charlie Ross.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Marlin Gennings Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Monday until service time at First Baptist Church, 701 South Main St., Jonesboro.

Richard L. Dunham

GENESEO, Ill. — Richard L. “Doc” Dunham, 82, of rural Geneseo passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Vandemore Funeral Home of Geneseo. The Rev. Dan Qualls will officiate.

Burial will be in Dayton Corners Cemetery at Colona, Ill. Family and friends of Richard may call from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday prior to services in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Bethel Assembly of God, Rock Island, Ill.

Doc was born July 21, 1927, at Imboden, the son of Walter and Lottie Mae Riggs Dunham. He was united in marriage to Esther Maria Garwood on June 15, 1966, in Green Rock, Ill.

For more than 20 years Doc had been employed as an electrician at McLaughlin Body Co. in Moline, Ill., from which he retired in 1992. He enjoyed seeing after his cows and farming. Doc especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and he was best of “buds” with his great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his devoted wife of 43 years, Esther; four children, Cliff (Brenda) Garwood, Wesley Garwood, Kathleen Dunham Buckallew and Bradley Dunham; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Clara, Mary, Ethel and Sally.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Lynn Garwood; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Joni Gail Hall

JONESBORO — Joni Gail Hall, 52, of Jonesboro left this world on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House and began her new adventure.

Born at Wenatchee, Wash., Joni lived most of her life in Jonesboro and was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. She retired last spring after 28 years with the Arkansas State University Procurement Office. She loved fishing and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Katherine Thomas, and by a brother, Ronnie Thomas.

Survivors include her father, Jim Thomas of Batesville; her mother and stepfather, Wanda and Bob Ruff of Jonesboro; three brothers and sisters-in-law, J.R. “Rick” and Mitzi Thomas of Jonesboro, Scott and Kelli Ruff of Trumann and Greg Ruff of Little Rock; one sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Bill Knotts of Cummings, Ga.; and her close companion, Jerry Darr of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken Winningham officiating. Private burial will be in Nettleton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, SBRMC Development Office, 400 East St., Jonesboro 72401.

Robert G. Harig

PARAGOULD — Robert G. Harig, 88, of Paragould passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009.

He was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Chicago to Michael and Rose Harig.

Mr. Harig retired in 1988 as president and chief executive officer of Darling Store Fixtures. He started his career with the company in Bronson, Mich., and after moving to Paragould, continued to serve as president for 26 years. He was on the board of the National Association of Store Fixture Manufacturers.

He was involved with many community service projects, serving as president of United Way, American Heart Association, a volunteer for the Cancer Society, American Diabetes. Association, a past member of the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Harig was a talented photographer and an active member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Harig; four sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cindy Harig of Labadie, Mo., Michael and Donna Harig of Olive Branch, Miss., Stephen and Candy Harig of Calera, Ala., and Thomas and Stella Harig of New Mexico; two daughters, Lynda Dach and her husband Carl of Palm Desert, Calif., and Lois Harig of Battle Creek, Mich.; a stepson, Craig Watson of Searcy; a stepdaughter, Karen Farley and her husband Bill of Steele, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-8 tonight in Center Hill Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church with George Robb, Terry Sanders and Bill Tripp officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Harig, Kevin Harig, Luke Cooper, Paul Schandevel, Melvin Sonney and Darrell Webb.

Alvis N. Houston

TRUMANN — Alvis N. Houston, 86, of Trumann died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Jonesboro.

He was born at and a lifetime resident of Trumann, was a retired farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Trumann.

Mr. Houston was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and his parents, Osa A. and Eva Vineyard Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Julia Houston of the home; two sons, Noyl Houston of Jonesboro and John Thomas Houston of Fayetteville; one daughter, Sharon Davis of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, Bill Houston of Trumann; two sisters, Evelyn Wheatley of Kennett, Mo., and Faye Corbett of Huntsville, Ala.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Trumann with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday in First Baptist Church of Trumann.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 575, Trumann.

Henry McComas

HARDY — Henry McComas, 73, of Hardy died Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Henry was a retired truck driver, oil field worker and an Army veteran. He was the son of the late Robert and Madge Prevo McComas.

He is survived by his daughter, Trisha McComas; sons, Kevin, Jason and Jackie McComas; sisters, Linda McCarty and Glenda Smith; and brothers, Robert and Orville McComas. Henry also had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Heath Funeral Home Oak Hill Chapel with interment in Eaglesrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time.

Ray Minor

BATESVILLE — Ray Minor, 50, of Batesville, formerly of Earle, departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 30, at his home.

Born May 10, 1959, at Memphis to Donald and Ellen Norwood Minor, Ray was preceded in death by his father.

Survivor include his mother, Ellen Minor; sons, Alex Minor and Jason Howell; brothers, Victor and Joe Minor; and sisters, Sue Golden and Marcia Long.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home with interment in Harris Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time.
