Paul Weaks

TRUMANN — Paul J. Weaks, 82, of Trumann died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at and a lifetime resident of Trumann, he was a retired fish market owner and of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Weaks was preceded in death by four sisters, one brother and his parents, Robert and Ruth Caroline Haynes Weaks.

Survivors include his wife, Oma Grimes Weaks of the home; two daughters, Linda and husband Johnny Blagg of Trumann, and Vicky and husband Jerry Stracener of Jonesboro; one sister, Murlene Davis of Marked Tree; four grandchildren, Shane Blagg, Kevin Blagg, Dana Wheeler and Jeremy Stracener; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann with the Revs. Gene Hogan and Bill Stricklin officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Shane Blagg, Kevin Blagg, Jeremy Stracener, Ricky Wheeler, Randy Blagg and Jay Parnell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bud King, Benny Beckum and C.M. Murphy.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 at the funeral home.

Ann Birdsong Willard

AMAGAON — Ann Birdsong Willard, 61, of Amagon died Sunday.

She was of the Baptist belief and was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Phyllis Birdsong.

She is survived by her husband, Randall Willard of Amagon; three brothers, Gerald Lazel of Eagle River, Alaska, Roger Birdsong of Newport and Phillip Birdsong of Jonesboro; and two sisters, Bobbie Pulliam of Newport and Linda Dunham of Weiner.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Remmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 Wednesday evening.

Roberta Woody

NEWPORT — Roberta Henderson Woody, 86, of Newport died Sunday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; parents; son, Joseph Woody; daughter, Barbara Woody; four brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by three daughters, Ann Crouch and husband, Grafton of Newark, Diana Curl and Joan Tunstall, both of Newport; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Eight Mile Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8.

Alvin Annis

PARKIN — Alvin Annis, 76, of Parkin departed this life Saturday, April 24, in West Memphis.

He was born Nov. 3, 1933, at Tyronza to Robert and Reba Paris Annis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clorene, three brothers and one sister.

Alvin is survived by his wife, JoAnn Annis; brother, Charles Annis; one stepson; one stepdaughter; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Parkin First Baptist Church with interment following in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. today in Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home.

Rebecca ‘Becky’ Brady

WALNUT RIDGE — Rebecca “Becky” Brady, 76, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be anounced later by Bryan Funeral Home.

Edward Burton II

NEWPORT — Edward Thomas Burton II of Newport died Tuesday, April 20.

Born Jan. 6, 1941, at McCrory, Mr. Burton was a musician and leader of the Imperials. He was a retired drug and alcohol counselor, having worked at Greenleaf Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Thomas Burton Sr. and Mary Woodrow Matthews Burton.

He is survived by several children; his wife, Cathy Burton; and one brother, John Burton.

Graveside memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Fakes Cemetery at McCrory.

Arrangements are by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Gladys Henson

PIGGOTT — Gladys Henson, 98, of Piggott passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010.

She was born April 13, 1912, at Senath, Mo., and was the daughter of the late Tom and Samantha Ray.

Survivors include her daughter, Jennie Claus and husband Richard of Piggott; son, Bill Kimbrel of Piggott; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Charles Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday.

Maurice Lowell Holt

PARAGOULD — Maurice Lowell Holt, 89, of Paragould died Friday, April 23, 2010, at Jonesboro.

Born Dec. 21, 1920, he was retired from Darling Store Fixtures and a member of the Paragould First Assembly of God.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shannon Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Monday until service time.

Verna Hubbard

TUCKERMAN — Verna Hubbard, 67, of Tuckerman died Thursday, April 22.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Bobby G. Hubbard; son, Bobby Don Hubbard and wife Michelle of Jonesboro; sister, Tony Bowman; grandchildren, Bobby W. Hubbard, Travis Hubbard, Sarah Orosz, Desiree Orosz and Crystal Fay; great-grandchildren, Blaine, Riley and Roric; nephew, Tim Dunman; niece, Kaitlyn Hale; best friends, Congregation of the Tuckerman Church of Christ, Cynthia Brock, Pat Childress, Doris Bateman, Dorothy Tirey and Ollie Simmons; and her wonderful doctors, Caroll Scroggin and Wade Falwell.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Gracelawn Cemetery with arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Velvie Hill Lovelace

JONESBORO — Velvie Hill Lovelace, 92, of Jonesboro died Friday, April 23, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Born June 30, 1917, at Pocahontas, she was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Finch Cemetery with Gary Morris officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mitchell Funeral Home.

Marion Mayfield

LESTER — Marion Woodrow Mayfield, 93, of the Lester community died Friday, April 23, 2010.

He was born at Lester and lived there his entire life. He was a resident of Lakeside Nursing Center for two months before he died. He worked on the farm, did factory work and was also a grocery store clerk. He was a commercial fisherman for many years.

He retired as bridge foreman from the Craighead County Road Department at Black Oak. He was of the Baptist belief. Mr. Mayfield loved fishing, gardening and playing the harmonica.

He married Velmer Sims on April 4, 1936. They were married 68 years at the time of her death on July 2, 2004. Also preceding him in death was his father, Dr. Eli Mayfield, a practicing physician in Craighead County for many years; his mother, Sally Rhama Mayfield; six half brothers, Tatum and Floyd Rhama, Bland, Grover, Lonzo and Dr. Maude Mayfield; and five half sisters, Wilma Bley, Mary Claire, Sarah Denton, Jewel McGaughey and Linda Taft.

Survivors include one daughter, Millie Henson, and her husband Vernon of Jonesboro; one grandson, Brian K. Ford and wife Gwyn of Jonesboro; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with G.W. Endicott officiating. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include Keith Hayes, Heath McGaughey, Kelley McGaughey, Kyle McGaughey, Dennis Hendley and Bob Huffman.

Lasting memorials can be made to the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lester.
