James Hopkins

JONESBORO — James F.C. Hopkins, 66, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Memphis.

Born Nov. 8, 1943, at Tuckerman to James Elmer and Francis Brannam Hopkins, he was in the U.S. Army and a foreman of Swiff and Co.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Hopkins.

Survivors include his daughter, Tanya (Brian) Thompson of Cherry Valley; sister, Vickie (George) Skomp of Elnora, Ind.; and nephew, Tim Hardy of Southaven, Miss.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Walnut Hill Cemetery with military rites. Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas O’Connor Sr.

JONESBORO — Thomas M. O’Connor Sr., 95, passed away Friday afternoon, May 21, 2010, at St. Elizabeth’s Place.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Berneze Osman

TRUMANN — Mrs. Margaret Berneze Osman, 92, died Friday, May 22, 2010, at Trumann Health and Rehab.

She was born in Hector and had lived in Trumann most of her lifetime. She was retired from the Singer plant where she was an administrative secretary and also a teacher of sewing classes at Singer.

Mrs. Osman was a member of the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Trumann where she taught Sunday school and was the church clerk for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Pearl “Bull” Osman, and was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Mae Waller Linton.

Survivors include one brother, Ken and wife Wanda Linton of Trumann; two sisters, Lillian Fry of Akron, Pa., and Billie and husband Cosme Fernandez of St. Marcus, Texas; three nephews and two nieces of whom she was very fond.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with the Rev. Kenneth Bobo and Bill Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Linton, Allen Linton, Landon Linton, Blake Linton, Clint Curtis and Tommy Sanderson.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.

Memorials may be made to the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Trumann.

Virna Mae Stevenson

Dec. 5, 1941-May 21, 2010

HARRISBURG — Virna Mae Stevenson, 68, of Harrisburg died Friday at her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and her husband, Bill Stevenson.

Survivors include her children, Rita Smith Morrow, Billy Stevenson and Shane Stevenson; siblings, Coaleen Trammel, Patsy Finley, Wanda Dean, Betty Evans, Diane Awalt, Chuck Tarkington, Johnny Tarkington and Danny Tarkington; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in Wilson’s Tyronza Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with burial in Parkin Cemetery.

William A. Biggs

PARAGOULD — William A. Biggs, 87, of Paragould died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born July 13, 1922, at Senath, Mo.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy R. Patton and husband Stan of O’Fallon, Mo., and by his son, William R. Biggs and wife Carolyn of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Cari McKnight and husband Jason, Stephen Patton and wife Sunshine, Kristen Archer and husband Sam, Jessica Patton, Andrew Biggs and wife Jessica, and Elizabeth Biggs; and four great-grandchildren, Lily McKnight, Helen McKnight, Julianna Patton and Toryn Patton. His friend, Betty M. Paskel of Paragould, also survives him, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruby Biggs; his parents, William A. and Rena Biggs; brother, Seward Biggs; and sisters, Marie Eubanks and Rosealynd Ragsdell.

He was a Christian and active member of New Haven Baptist Church. He had been an ordained deacon for more than 50 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Air Force stationed in England. He worked in the tooling division for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis for 33 years and retired in 1985.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with graveside services immediately following in New Friendship cemetery. Ric Keefer will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Rouse, Andrew Biggs, Stephen Patton, Sam Archer, Ron Hardin and Sonny Brown.

Memorials may be made to the Baptist Home, P.O. Box 87, Ironton, Mo. 63650; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 411 South Victory St., Suite 202, Little Rock 72201.

James Cloud

MONETTE — James Cloud, 77, passed away Friday, June 4.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cloud; children, Sherry Cloud, Kim Cain, Connie Langella, Tammy Wilkerson, Donna Cloud, Tim Gragg and Jamie Cloud; and sisters, Lora Cole and Mildred McKinley.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Cloud; and parents, Ralph and Ruby Cloud.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Monette Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. James Moore officiating under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Mary Haddock

MONETTE — Mary Haddock, 86, passed away Thursday, June 3, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her children, Darlene Garner, Ginger Teasley and Keith Haddock; a brother, Henry Greenwood; sister, Francis Walters; four grandchildren, Dee Ann Barr, Bryce Garner, Brock Haddock and Heather Weaver; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Haddock, and parents, Ernest and Virgie Greenwood.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today in Monette Memorial Cemetery with Charles Hughes officiating under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Clarence Cleo Jenkins

POCAHONTAS — The Rev. Clarence Cleo Jenkins, 83, passed from this life on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He had been in the ministry 58 years, pastoring in Rockford, Ill., for 38 years before moving to Pocahontas. He had pastored the United Pentecostal Church in Black Rock for the past 17 years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Viola Honey Jenkins; one son, Jerry Jenkins; sisters, Jeanette Bennifield and Ruthie May Gray; and brother, J.W. Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife, Unabell Jenkins of the home; daughter, Martha Garza of Rockford, Ill.; son, Alvin Jenkins of Walnut Ridge; sisters, June Helen Caples of Houston, Texas, and Mary Ann DeMarcus of Port Arthur, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with the Rev. George Ezell officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:30- 8 p.m. Monday in House-Gregg Funeral Home.

A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Ill., 61115, from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be private in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

S.C. Rose

MEMPHIS — Mr. S.C. Rose of Memphis, formerly of Hughes, died Thursday, June 3, at Crittenden Regional Hospital in West Memphis.

Born at Hollywood, Mo., he was the son of the late Samuel Cheatum and Gladys Ross Rose and was raised in the Arbyrd, Mo., area. He was a graduate of Arbyrd High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He lived much of his life in Hughes, where he was a longtime farmer and member of the First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Rose; a son, Sammy Rose; six brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include one son, Ross Rose of Memphis; two daughters, Bobbie Peppers of West Memphis and Tiffany Davis of Marianna; and one sister, Sharon Hitt of Leachville. He also leaves three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Leachville Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Rose officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Leachville.

The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. until noon today at the funeral home.

John Underwood

ASH FLAT — John Doss Underwood, 86, of Ash Flat died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, in Salem.

Born March 4, 1924, at Centerville, W.Va., to the late Phillip and Cora Underwood, he was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Underwood of the home; daughter, Carol Dunn of Ash Flat; nephew, Jim Mikes; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Agnos Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Agnos Cemetery under direction of Tri-County Highland Funeral Home.
