Gene Hickerson
RAVENDEN — Gene Hickerson, 84, passed away Friday, July 23.
He is survived by his wife, Josie Wilson Hickerson of the home; one son, Bryan Johnson of Ravenden Springs; two daughters, Carolyn Mitchell of Viola and Shirley Ford of Leachville; one brother, Bob Hickerson of Harrisonville, Kan.; one sister, Barbara Wheeler of Kansas City, Kan.; 24 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Hickerson will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with John Stoll officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.
Marcus Desean Lawson
JONESBORO — Marcus Desean Lawson, 38, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, July 21, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Marcus was an active Christian holding membership with the First Baptist Church congregation. One of his areas of service was as vacation Bible school teacher. He was an Arkansas State University alumnus and an Amateur Athletic Union basketball coach.
He was dearly loved and survived by his wife, Katrina of the home; his children, Cameron, Bianca and Alexandria of the home, Tevin Shears of Memphis and Myia Gumby of Atlanta; brothers, Rodney Lawson of Crossett, Derrick Lawson of Little Rock and Yancy Lawson of Jonesboro; and several other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in North Main Baptist Church under direction of Woodard’s Jonesboro Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. Tuesday until service time.
Helen Lee
MANILA — Helen Lee, 70, of Manila died Friday, July 23, 2010, at Osceola Nursing Center.
Born to John and Dorothy Tate Parnell in Osceola, her father; husband, Junior Lee; and two brothers preceded her in death.
Mother, Dorothy Tate Parnell; son, David and Norma H. Lee; grandsons, David Anthony Lee and Zachary Ryan Lee; brother, John and Kathy Parnell; and sisters, Linda Johnson and Patricia Ochoa, survive her.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday in Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Manila Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight in Cobb Funeral Home.
Evelyn Madden
SEARCY — Evelyn Madden, 87, of Searcy died July 1, 2010.
She was born Feb. 26, 1923, at Wynne to the late Robert and Tessie Belle Faulkner.
Mrs. Madden was a member of the First Baptist Church in Searcy. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved by all who knew her.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, A.L. “Son” Madden; and one brother, Robert Faulkner.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Donald Wayne Cox of Loveland, Colo., one daughter, Rita Louise Beatty of Jonesboro; three sisters, Frances Morat, Oleta Flowers and Margaret Ann Williams; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, in the Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Searcy.
J.D. Madden
HOXIE — J.D. Madden, 84, of Hoxie died Friday, July 23, at his home.
The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Monday with funeral services following at 2 p.m.
Complete arrangements will be announced later. Arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service, 401 West Main St., Walnut Ridge.
Janell Grubbs Peck
HARRISBURG — Mrs. Janell Grubbs Peck, 75, of Harrisburg departed this life Thursday, July 22, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She is survived by one son, Tony and wife Lisa Peck; one brother, Kenneth and wife Peggy Grubbs; and two grandchildren, Jamie and wife Leah Peck, and Whitney Peck, all of Harrisburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Harrisburg Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Jackson’s Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home.
Jimmy Timze
WYNNE — Jimmy Timze, 62, of Wynne departed this life Friday, July 23, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
He was born June 23, 1948, in Forrest City to John and Hazel Thomas Timze.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, riding his motorcycle, attending auctions and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Mary Timze and Betty Timze Bouland.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel Timze; brother, Floyd Timze, both of Wynne; and several nieces and nephews.
All services will be private. Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Orla Williams
JONESBORO — Orla Williams, 70, of Jonesboro died Thursday, July 22, at Twin Rivers Nursing Home.
Born in Dixie, he was a retired foreman at Frolic Footwear. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during Vietnam. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Mc-Broome of Jonesboro and Liberty Williams of Michigan; brother, Arlie Williams of Knoxville, Iowa; and sister, Charlotte Yarbro of Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alta Duke Williams; three brothers; and one sister.
All services are private under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
Bertha Benham
JONESBORO — Ms. Bertha Jane Benham, 48, of Jonesboro died on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer.
Ms. Benham was born in Greenville, Texas, on Jan. 8, 1962, to Winford and Ruthie Vail. Ms. Benham was of the Church of Christ faith and enjoyed fishing, flowers and taking long walks. Ms. Benham especially enjoyed family gatherings and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Nathan Vail and wife Bobbi of Como, Texas, Neil Vail of Jonesboro and Matthew Malott of Hot Springs; one daughter, Melissa Jane Benham of Jonesboro; four brothers, Winford Andrew Vail of Forney, Texas, Ira B. Vail of Jonesboro, Lloyd Vail of Jonesboro and Billy Ray Vail of Forney; two sisters, Ela Mae Taylor of Jonesboro and Della Ann Burnett of Sulphur Springs, Texas; nine grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Ms. Benham was preceded in death by her parents and two nephews, David Wayne Taylor and Mark Edward Taylor.

Melba Chaplain
JONESBORO — Melba Chaplain, 67, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
She was born Aug. 5, 1943, in Jonesboro to James and Vivian Pankey Petty. Mrs. Chaplain was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief. She loved fishing, her pets and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie H. Chaplain; and her parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Chaplain of Jonesboro and Stacey McGee of Brookland; three grandchildren, Will, Joshua and Alex McGee; and a sister, Sybil Hill of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Monday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Services will be Monday beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Will McGee, Joshua McGee, Ronald Hill, Donald Hill, David Hill, Jeff Chaplain, James Chaplain and Steven Chaplain.
