Lora Weir Cude

BLACK ROCK — Lora Weir Cude, age 100, of Black Rock died Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Nov. 5, 1909, at Eaton, she was the daughter of Robert Sloan and Mary Rainwater Weir. She graduated from Sloan Hendrix Academy and attended Arkansas State College. She earned a teaching certificate and taught grades 1-8 in 1-room schools in the Post Oak and Lauratown communities.

On June 28, 1936, she married Dee Cude. They owned and opertated a grocery store in Black Rock for 39 years. She was a member of the Black Rock United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Cude; one son, Jim Cude; two brothers; and six sisters.

Mrs. Cude is survived by a son, Jerry Cude (Libby) of Conway; two daughters, Rita Guntharp (G. David) of Jonesboro and Mary Videll (Joe) of Walnut Ridge; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Cude, Mike Cude, Greg Guntharp, Steve Guntharp, Mark Blankenship and Kevin Berry.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. Services will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery at Imboden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Black Rock United Methodist Church or the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, 1148 East Matthews Ave., Jonesboro 72401.

David Dawson

WILSON — David Dewight Dawson, 63, of Wilson entered into rest Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, in Wilson.

He is survived by his son, Nickolas Dawson of Coral Springs, Fla.; daughter, Miki Cravens of Haughton, La.; grandchild, Daffney Dawson Hampton; sister, Laura Faye Jones of Osceola; and four brothers, Louis Dawson of Forrest City, Jerry Dawson of Osceola, Donald Dawson of Blytheville and Steve Dawson of Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Dawson; parents; brother, Donavan Dawson; and sister, Patricia Austin.

Visitation was held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Roller-Swift Funeral Home.

Alma Loretta Galloway

RECTOR — Alma Loretta Galloway, 54, of Rector passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, in Piggott.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Eugene Galloway; daughters, Stephanie Thorpe and Angie Deaton, both of Piggott; grandchildren, Matthew Walters, Thomas Thorpe, Andrew Deaton, Aaron Thorpe, Brent Deaton, Jessica Thorpe, Racheal Thorpe and Jordan Deaton; brother, Elmer Phillips; and sisters, Elaine Harris, Charlotte Pascua, Betty Owens, Charlene Hyten and Effie Mae Snyder.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home Chapel at Piggott with Robert Taylor officiating.

Visitation is at 6 p.m. today.

Peggy Sue Simpson

May 30, 1947-Aug. 6, 2010

POUGHKEEPSIE — Peggy Sue Bilbrey Simpson, 63, of Poughkeepsie died Friday at her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noble and Maurine Runsick Bilbrey.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jim Simpson; three sons, Patrick Simpson (Robin), Benjamin Simpson and Erik Simpson; brother, Billy Bilbrey; two sisters, Lula Bounds and Tena Cotton; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Ash Flat Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Spotts Cemetery at Poughkeepsie with arrangements by Qualls Cave City Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight.

Donald E. Walz

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Donald E. Walz, 77, of Cherokee Village, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of Lenore, née Balogh; dear father of Lori (Tim) Antczak of Eagle, Wis., Scott (Darla) of Arma, Kan., and Todd (Cheryl) of Phoenix; and dear stepfather of Kathryn Rice and Michael (Amy) Rice. He is further survived by his father-in-law, John Balogh; eight grandchildren; sisters, Alice Yanke, Vi Ossana, Sue Ossana, Ginny Jung and Leone Seuring; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Schmidt and Darlene Buck.

Don was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, member of Lodge No. 2539 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, and a volunteer firefighter.

No services are planned at this time.

Jason M. Williams

JONESBORO — Jason M. Williams, 41, of Jonesboro died Saturday at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.

Troy E. Barlow

PARAGOULD — Troy E. Barlow, 84 of Paragould died Saturday at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was retired from Emerson Electric and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edgar and Ollie Malinda Montgomery Barlow; second wife, Alpha Barlow; and brothers, James and Galen Barlow.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Barlow of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Paula (David) Montalbano of Riverview, Fla.; stepsons, Bill Jarrett of Paragould and Herman (Brenda) Jarrett of Fort Smith; brothers, Joe Barlow of Plano, Texas, Paul Barlow of St. Louis and Welton Barlow of DeSoto, Mo.; sisters, Lorene Hathcock and Verneal Barlow both of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Dr. David Montalbano and the Rev. Jason Noel officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to East Side Baptist Church, Children’s Home of Paragould or the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home.

Imogene P. Clark

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Imogene P. Clark, 95, of Germantown, formerly of Jonesboro, died Saturday at Quince Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Memphis.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.

Kaleb Chanse Dacus

BONO — Kaleb Chanse Dacus passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, with his daddy, Tim.

He was born Oct. 13, 2004, in Jonesboro and was a student at Westside Elementary School. Kaleb loved to play, swim, play sports, go 4-wheeling and play with his friends and his baby-sitter.

He is survived by his mother, Kadie Danielle Hall; his father, Jason Lee Dacus of Bono; a sister, Kenlie Dawn Hall of the home; his Pawpa Mel and Mawma Trish Miller, Papa Jack Johnson, Nana Donna Hall all of Jonesboro; Pawpa Jimmy Hall of Lepanto, Papa Richard and Nanny Donna Dacus and Michael Milsap all of Bono; great-grandparents, Ophelia Johnson of Jonesboro, Ray and Yvonne Qualls of Mountain Home; an uncle, Todd Hall of Jonesboro, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with the Rev. Ken Stallings officiating and burial to follow at Trinity Cemetery near Bono.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today at the Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Ryan Long, Aaron Farley, Chris Cooper, Wade Rawlins, T.J. Moore and Bradley Weathers and as honorary pallbearers are the Iron Hawgs Riding Club.

Lasting memorials may be made to BancorpSouth for the benefit of Kadie and Kenlie Hall.

Orfa Aranda Goad

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Orfa Aranda Goad, 74, passed away Aug. 21, 2010. She was born and reared in Managua, Nicaragua, the daughter of the late Pablo Emilio Aranda and Maria Virginia Sandoval Aranda. She graduated from convent school in Managua and completed business college in California. She worked as a secretary until she married Bobby Franklin Goad in 1960. They lived most of their married life in Memphis, where Mr. Goad was in the auto body industry. They moved to Chester County in 1997.

Mr. Goad preceded her in death in 2006. She continued to make her home in the Montezuma Community. She was a devoted wife and mother who was dearly loved and cherished by her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and gardner. She was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church in Selmer.

She is survived by three daughters, Retha Fausett and husband Michael of Conway, Virginia Matrisciano and husband Anthony of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Donna Brignac of Henderson; seven grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth, Samuel and Andrew Matrisciano, Kristal Thomas (Ronnie), and Jonathon and Bobby Fausett; three great-grandchildren, Christian and Christopher Roe and Bryan Thomas; a brother, Pablo Aranda of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Jenny LaFontaine of Orlando, Fla.; and extended family, Maria Avila, Fernando Zavala, Luna Avila and Shawn Avila.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jackson with Father Favazza officiating, and burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Cemetery in Jonesboro.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel from 5-8 p.m. on Monday.

Joyce Evellen Green

HONEY GROVE, Texas — Joyce Evellen Green, 53, was called home to her Lord on Aug.18, 2010, from her residence in Honey Grove.

Joyce was born in Memphis to William Earl and Rose Ann Redman King on Oct. 5, 1956.

Joyce, formerly of Paragould, is survived by her spouse, William Murphy Green; two brothers, Lloyd and Michael; four daughters, Annette Horton, Valerie Green, Jamie Green and Shelby May; and two grandchildren, Jody and Jacob.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosie King.

A memorial will be held at a later date at 514 Greg Drive in Paragould.
