Matt Birdsong

TUCKERMAN — Matt Birdsong, 46, of Tuckerman died Wednesday, Sept. 22.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Reba Birdsong, and one brother, Scotty Lynn Birdsong.

Mr. Birdsong is survived by one brother, David Birdsong of Tuckerman; two sisters, Carol Northcutt of Tuckerman and Teresa Curtis of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews who adored him.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Remmel-McCall Cemetery with visitation from noon until service time at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Catherine Brown

HARRISBURG — Catherine Brown, 68, of Harrisburg departed this life on Monday, Sept. 20, in Jonesboro.

Catherine was born April 25, 1942, in Bismarck, Mo., the daughter of Anthony R. and Charlotte Smith Young.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Arvil L.; sons, Roger (Freda), Mark (Tonya), Tony (Becky) and Kenneth (Tammy); brothers, Truman, Bob, Harold and Allen; sister, Ethel Umflett of Fredrick, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Service will be at 10 a.m. today at Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Billy Michael Creekmore

TRUMANN — Billy Michael Creekmore, 48, of Trumann died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma Creekmore, and a brother, Timmy Creekmore.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Creekmore of Trumann; father, Billy Creekmore of West Memphis; and brothers, Keith Creekmore of Trumann and Dwayne Creekmore of Proctor.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Trinity Baptist Church with Rick Kimery officiating. Arrangements are with Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree.

Alfred M. Hagen

PARAGOULD — Alfred M. Hagen, 88, of Paragould died Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Engleberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Monroe and Josephine Weisenbach Hagen, and brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Edie Hagen.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Fairrie Hagen of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Laura Hagen of Paragould; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Vaudine Hagen of Gassville, and Lawrence and Sadie Hagen of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandchildren, Shawn and Chandra Hagen of Silver Spring, Md.; great-grandson, August Hagen of Silver Spring; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hagen served in the Navy Armed Guard in World War II as a gunner’s mate on supply ships.

Al retired from Paragould Light and Water on Sept. 9, 1984, after almost 40 years as chief engineer and superintendent of the Downtown Paragould power plant. He was an avid duck hunter and antique car buff. He also enjoyed “harvesting” his apple, peach, pear and nectarine trees in his spare time.

Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home. Visitation will follow the rosary from 7- 8:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Sinkler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bob Pepper, Larry and Avery Beliew, Keith Legrid, Mark Martin and Tim Simpson.

Memorials may be sent to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Dorothea Hensley

JONESBORO — Dorothea Hensley, 68, of Jonesboro passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pleasant and Chestine (Collins) Hensley.

She is survived by two brothers, Fayette Hensley of Milton, Wis., and Pleasant Hensley (Lenora) of Bay; one niece, Cherrie Courville of Trumann; and one nephew, David Hensley of Bay.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Ballews Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. today at Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport.

Willa Mae Howard

CAVE CITY — Willa Mae Howard, 77, of Cave City died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010.

She was born Dec. 14, 1932, at Sandtown to the late Gilbert and Gladys Blue Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Howard of the home; children, Brad Howard, Bruce Howard and Vickie Tackett, all of Cave City; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God at Cave City. Burial will follow in Cave City Cemetery directed by Qualls Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the church.

Charlie Sefers

JONESBORO — Charlie Sefers, 85, of Jonesboro died Wednesday afternoon at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.

Bill D. Bullard

ST. JAMES — Bill D. Bullard, 77, of St. James died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010.

He was born March 18, 1933, at Bethesda to the late Virgil and Tressie Wink Bullard.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara Hatfield Bullard; daughters, Becky Caudel and Jan Spinks; sister, Roba Lee Spooner; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Full Gospel Fellowship Church, 2805 Neeley St., Batesville. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery at Batesville, with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Ruby Conway

ST. LOUIS — Ruby Shrable Conway, 82, of St. Louis, formerly of Jonesboro, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010.

She was the beloved wife of the late J.E. Conway; dear mother of Jim (Annette) Conway and Sandra (John) Polanc; dear sister of Ella Fay Cline, Essie McElrath and Betty Bates; dear grandmother of seven; great-grandmother of eight; sister-in-law; aunt; great-aunt; cousin; and friend.

Visitation will be at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro from 5-8 p.m. today with services at 2 p.m. Monday. Ruby will be buried next to her husband, J.E., in Jonesboro Memorial Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Kutis Affton Funeral Service of St. Louis.

Jimmy Griffin

OSCEOLA — Jimmy Griffin, 82, of Osceola died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Griffin of Osceola; sons, Jimmy Griffin Jr. of Heber Springs and Anthony Griffin of Tennessee; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:30-3 p.m. today at Roller Swift Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Jay Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Mississippi County Memorial Gardens.

Joy Deneen Cobb Hagar

JONESBORO — Joy Deneen Cobb Hagar, age 50, of Jonesboro died Thursday morning, Sept. 23, at her home.

Joy, as she is known by her close friends, was born in Jonesboro on May 3, 1960, to her parents, Max and June Cobb. Raised most of her life in Lake City, she graduated from Jonesboro High School. She later attended Arkansas State University, majoring in pre-med.

Her love of fashion moved her to Dallas where she was a model for the Kim Dawson Agency. She ultimately became an owner of the John Robert Powers School of Modeling and Agency in Fort Worth, Texas.

Returning to Jonesboro, Joy enjoyed her life devoting her love and support to her beautiful children and grandchildren.

Joy is survived by her son, Troy Prior of Jonesboro; daughters, Kimberly Nearns of Okinawa, Japan, and Claire Endicott of the home; partner, Kim Palmer, also of the home; and her amazing grandchildren, Gigi, Polly, Max, Shelby and Zoey. Also surviving Joy are her brothers, Garry Cobb of Jonesboro and Tim Cobb of Hurricane Mills, Tenn.; her two aunts, Marcene Timms of Lake City and LaQuita Tidwell of Long Beach, Calif.; and an uncle, Roland Smith of Florida, along with numerous extended family and wonderful close friends.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Max and June Cobb; a brother, Charles Cobb; her paternal grandparents, Troy and Iva Cobb; and her maternal grandparents, Ruby and Gladys Smith.

The blessing to all she has left is knowing that Joy loved living her life to the fullest and always putting those she loved first in her life. The comfort is knowing she is still in our hearts and minds each day, still looking down to always watch over all of us. We will miss you so.

Visitation will be from 1-2:30 p.m. Monday at Emerson Funeral Home, followed by a 3 p.m. graveside service at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Jerry Jolly officiating.
