Tilman Parks Adams
FORT SMITH — Beloved father and grandfather Tilman Parks Adams was born near Emmett on May 29, 1917. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Fort Smith at the age of 93.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nora Maxwell Adams; his parents, John and Mary Adams; four brothers, Arlis, J.T., Sam and Lillard Adams; and one sister, Marie White.
Tilman taught vocational agriculture for 41 years — 15 years in Caraway and 26 years in Nettleton. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Arkansas. He served on the Arkansas State Board for Vocational Agriculture Teachers and was president of the 20 Year Club.
He was chairman of the Northeast District of Vocational Agriculture Teachers and chairman of contest programs for 15 years. While at Nettleton he directed the Future Farmers of America contest programs. During this time his students won the sweepstakes 15 times, placed second five times and always placed in the top group.
His parliamentary procedure team and public speaking team won state contests several times. His judging teams won numerous first place titles in district and state contests. His teams also participated in national contests. Mr. Adams has an honorary State and American Farmers degree.
Tilman had been an active member of the Baptist church. He was a member of the Baptist church in Caraway, Nettleton and Fort Smith. In the Caraway and Nettleton churches he served as Sunday school superintendent, Training Union director and taught the men’s Sunday school class. He served as a deacon for over 35 years.
He is survived by two sons, John Tilman Adams and his wife Kathleen of Houston, Texas, and James Norris Adams and his wife Beverly of Fort Smith. He also is survived by three grandchildren, Brian Adams and his wife Tracie of Waldron, Stewart Adams and his wife Nikki of Greenwood and Ashli Black of Fort Smith.
He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Payton, Eden, Reagan, Liddie-Ann and Raihan.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gregg Funeral Home chapel, followed by a brief graveside service in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Peachtree Hospice, 2910 Jenny Lind Road, No. 4 (Palliative Care Unit), Fort Smith.
Sibyl Condra Ballard
TRUMANN — Mrs. Sibyl Catherine Condra Ballard, 92, of Trumann died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.
Bennett Carnathan
JONESBORO — Bennett Wade Carnathan, infant son of Steve and Heidi Carnathan of Jonesboro, was born into heaven on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include maternal grandparents, Ms. Mickey Roper of Cabot, and Hal and Debi Roper of Cabot; paternal grandparents, Murphy and Brenda Bennett of Jonesboro; great-grandparents, Doyne and Jacque Roper of Austin; great-grandmother, Betty Hennen of Jacksonville; great-grandfather, John Hennen of West Monroe, La.; great-grandmother, Leda Bennett of Jonesboro; great-grandmother, Nina Layne of Black Rock; great-great-grandmother, Lena Dillard of Cabot; and great-great-grandfather, Noah Jones of Midwest City, Okla.
Bennett Wade was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kenneth Carnathan.
Honorary pallbearers include Chris Thompson, Adam Saulsbury, Micah Jaramillo and Mark Bowers.
Chapel services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with the Rev. Bobby Barnett officiating. Burial with be private.
Dorothy Jean Foss
MOUNTAIN HOME — Memorial services for Dorothy “Dottye” Jean Foss, 80, of Mountain Home will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Monette with the Rev. Jerry Reed officiating.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1930, at Monette, the daughter of Elvin and Lillian Pitts Woodsmall, and died on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011.
She married Warren Foss Sr. on July 21, 1979, at St. Louis and worked as a programmer for CBS Television, St. Louis.
Dorothy had lived in Mountain Home since 1995, moving from Glen Cove, Long Island, N.Y. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mountain Home.
She is survived by her husband, Warren Foss of the home; two sons, Danny Bronaugh of Hillsboro, Mo., and Warren (Pamela) Foss Jr. of Cape Cod, Mass.; three daughters, Geraldine Foss of Greenfield, N.H., Dr. Cynthia (David) Bowman of Hope, Maine, and Gloria (Paul) St. Amant of Brandon, Fla.; four grandsons, Ronald (Dawn) Bronaugh, William Foss, David Per Bowman and Jeffrey (Andrea) St. Amant; four granddaughters, Andrea (Dennis) Fisler, Danielle Bronaugh, Alexandra Heather Foss and Christina St. Amant; a brother, Rudolph (Fern) Woodsmall of Paragould; a sister, Norma (Gene) Gathright of Monette; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald; and brother, Sidney.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House or First Baptist Church.

JONESBORO — Willene Kirkland, 82, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2010, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Truel Parmer Ratliff
IMBODEN — Truel Parmer Ratliff went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at his home in Imboden at the age of 84.
He was born Sept. 30, 1926, to Caro A. and Rachel Pace Ratliff at Alicia. He spent several years in Indianapolis, retiring from Bridgeport Brass before returning to Arkansas in 1984, when he became involved in the cattle business for a few years.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of People’s Faith Tabernacle of Hoxie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Garland; and a sister, Dorothy Nunnally.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Maggie” of the home; a daughter, Rhonda (Joe) Neiswander of Jonesboro; a son James (Cindy) Dean of Imboden; grandchildren, Jared Neiswander, Jesse Dean and Chandra (Matt) Jira; sisters, Imo Mason, Jolene (Marlan) Munns, Jeanie Davis and Margie Sacco, all of Indianapolis; brother, Kenneth “Doc” (Myrtle) Ratliff of Franklin, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will greet visitors from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie. A celebration of his life will follow at 1 p.m. in Bryan Funeral Home chapel with Roger Brand officiating. Burial will follow in Calvin Crossing Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Dean, Jesse Dean, Jared Neiswander and Brad Graham.
Bonnie Sue Richardson
COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Bonnie Sue Richardson, 75, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Collierville, Tenn.
She was born Aug. 14, 1935, at Milligan Ridge. She was an office manager for a refrigeration company.
Survivors include her mother, Lucille Brewer Tidwell of Jonesboro; a daughter and her husband, Holly and Richard Searight of Collierville; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Thurman Nuckles of Harrisburg; and two grandchildren, Whitney Thrower and husband Nathan of Collierville, and Matthew Searight of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Brewer; a son, Curtis Markum; and a brother, Dan Brewer.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Manila Cemetery
with the Rev. Waymon Holt officiating.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until noon at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Wilma Wood Short
LAKE CITY — Wilma Wood Short, 87, of Lake City died Tuesday, Feb. 1, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.
She was born Dec. 31, 1923, at Lake City. She was the owner and operator of Wid’s Daisy Queen and a member of First Assembly of God in Lake City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Minnie Wood; her husband, Warren Short; son, Wayne “Biscuits” Short; seven brothers and sisters, Bea Culbreath, Joy Allen, Mary Tacker, Maudelle Morgan, Clarence Wood, Major Wood and Tom Wood.
She is survived by her son, Tim and his wife Jeau Short of Jonesboro; daughter, Carolyn Grimes of Lake City; seven grandchildren, Tammy Fletcher, Amy Brown and Shelley Turner, all of Lake City, Carol Despain, David Short and Ashten Newman, all of Jonesboro, and Drew Short of Fayetteville; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Wayne and Katie Brown, Preston Despain, Cody and Kasey Fletcher, Dillon and Evan Turner, and Maddi Short; one great-great-grandchild, Waydelee Jax; and two sisters, Faye Short of Horn Lake, Miss., and Mable Bowman of Hernando, Miss.
Visitation will be tonight from 5:30-8 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Roller-Farmers Union chapel, with Nick Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include her nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Craig, the Rev. Van Gilbert and Jake Gilley.
It was her request that donations be made to Wayne “Biscuits” Short Memorial Park, care of the City of Lake City, P.O. Box 660, Lake City 72437.

Pearl Slayton
POCAHONTAS — Pearl Velma Slayton, 97, went to be with the heavenly father on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, as she slept. Mrs. Slayton passed away in Springfield, Mo., but was a lifetime resident of Pocahontas.
Mrs. Slayton was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Martha Broadway; husband, Lester Slayton; and son, Randall Slayton.
Survivors include her great-nephew, Jerry Dowdy, his wife Martha and their children; and other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home with services at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery.
Tina Lucinda Smith
PARAGOULD — Tina Lucinda Smith, 81, of Paragould died Tuesday, Feb. 1, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith retired in 2007 from Wal-Mart, where she worked in the deli and as a door greeter.
Survivors include her husband, George Smith of the home, and two sisters, Mabel Rottler of St. Louis and Frankie Mae Russom of Paragould.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Mitchell Funeral Chapel with Everett Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
