Pauline Cook

Pauline Cook, age 82, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003.

She is survived by her husband Manuel Cook of Carlisle, a daughter, Faye Hunter of Little Rock, two sons, Leon McElroy of Little Rock and Bobby McElroy of Muldrow, Okla., eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services were Wednesday at Hicks Cemetery; arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice.
George P. Travis, 84, of Austin, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003. He was a retired carpenter and a charter member of Country Chapel Church.
He is survived by stepsons Tom Mulkey of El Paso and William Mulkey of Pioneer, La.; daughter Donna Manning of Conway; stepdaughters Freddie Hankins of Cabot, Rita Abshure of Austin and Jackie Holland of Cabot; sister Ethel Mitchell of Cabot; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Country Chapel Church, with burial in Sylvania Cemetery.

Jim Hoggard

Jim Hoggard, 58, of Conway died Dec. 3, 2003.

He was Conway’s mayor from 1975-78, and was owner of Hoggard’s Men’s Store. He was president of Clearwater Development Corp. in Hot Springs and Jim Hoggard Investments. He was named a life member of the Arkansas Municipal League.

Survivors are his wife of 39 years, Susan S. Hoggard; a son, Jay Hoggard of Conway; daughters, Misty Young of Mt. Vernon, Cherish Hoggard of Little Rock, Hillary Simmons of Mt. Vernon and Haven Hoggard of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Peggy Keller of Lonoke and Betty Keller of Lake Village.

A memorial service was held Dec. 6 at Grace United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to U.C.A. Athletics, or the Grace United Methodist Church Music Department.

Kathleen McDonald

Kathleen A. McDonald, 81, of Fayetteville died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her daughter’s home in Cabot. She was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Channelburg, Ind., to parents James and Catherine Dwyer.

She is survived by four children: son, George McDonald and his wife Linetta of North Little Rock; daughter, Jetta McDonald Roberg and husband Rex of Cabot; daughter, Linda McDonald Sims and husband Mark of Fayetteville; son, Kevin McDonald and wife Melanie of Fayetteville; brother, Bob Dwyer and wife Barbara of Madison, Ind.; three sisters, Sister Josepha Dwyer of El Paso, Texas, Clare Dwyer of Arlington, Va., Monica Dwyer of Denver; and seven grandchildren, Brian and Leslie Mc-Donald, Julia, Liz, Erica, Spencer Roberg and Allie Sims.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike Bowman; a brother, Don Dwyer; and two sisters, Jean Wagy and Marge Larkin.

She attended Indiana State Teachers College on a Latin scholarship, lettering in soccer and golf and serving on the student council as president of the Women’s Athletic Association. She was a member of Omega Sigma Chi, Athenaeum, the Newman Club, the Bibliophile Club and Pi Omega Pi. She graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1944.

She was a Senior Olympics athlete, winning several gold medals at the state, regional and national levels competing in javelin, discus, shot put, horseshoes, bicycling, track and swimming. An avid reader and bird watcher, she also learned to water ski at 55.

She donated her body to UAMS for medical research. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Arkansas, #1 Lile Court, Suite 201, Little Rock, Ark., 72205.

A memorial mass was held at Poor Clare Monastary in Alexandria, Va., on Friday, Dec. 5. A Life Celebration for family and friends will be held on Jan. 2, 2004, in Fayetteville.

Ethel Singley

Ethel Singley, 88, of Little Rock died Dec. 8, 2003.
She is survived by her children, Mary Hutchinson of Little Rock, Maxine Welch, Mabelvale; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Dec. 10, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, Little Rock.

Joyce Carole Burton

Joyce Carole Burton, age 64, of Cabot died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003.
Graveside service was Dec. 4, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton, was in charge.

Terry McKee

Terry McKee, 64, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.

He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service with the rank of TSgt. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he flew 98 combat missions. He currently was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he achieved the rank of Flotilla Commander. He was a boat safety and hunter education instructor and the owner of McKee Electric in Lonoke.

He is survived by his wife Pauline; son, Terry McKee of Jacksonville, daughters, Carla Dennis of Richardson, Texas, and Robin McKee of Ward; brothers, Fred McKee of Iowa and Frank Barnard of Michigan; sisters, Judith Willde of California, Merrie Sue Pease of Texas, Patricia Cleary and Bonnie Tyree both of Alaska; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at the Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel followed by interment in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.

George Leo Wallace

George Leo Wallace, age 46, died Dec. 2, 2003.

He was a member and Deacon of Lonoke Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Quinn Wallace; two sons, George Wallace, Jr. of Sherwood and Richard Wallace of Lonoke; his mother, Beatrice Wallace of Clarendon; one brother, Leonard Wallace of Kansas; and two sisters, Audrey Faye Williams of Clarendon and Maurine Dunavan of Blackton.

Funeral services were Thursday at Lonoke Baptist Church with committal services in Shady Grove Cemetery, Clarendon. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Memorials may be made to Lonoke Baptist Church.

Charles Hughes III

Charles Alvin “Sonny” Hughes III of Little Rock, died Dec. 2, 2003.
He was an amateur inventor.

He is survived by his children, Vanessa Brown of Little Rock, Tony Hughes of Little Rock, Chuck Hughes, and Phillip Hughes of Cabot; sisters, Shirley Smith of Texas, and Betty Rone of Benton; and five grandchildren.

Funeral was Dec. 7, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, Little Rock, with interment at Heards Cemetery in Bradford.

D.D. Wilford Poor

“D.D.” Wilford Allie Poor, age 57, of Almyra died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.
He was a farmer and Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Yvonne Edwards Poor; sons, Scotty Poor and Keith Poor; three granddaughters; sisters, Hazel Young of Lonoke, Thelma Henderson and Mildred Cupples of DeWitt; brother, Calvin Hendrix of Almyra.
Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 7, at Essex Funeral Home Chapel in DeWitt with burial at Almyra Cemetery.

Mae Kirkland

Mae Kirkland, age 62, of Cabot, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.

She was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church in Cabot.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Kirkland of Searcy, and Kelly Kirkland of Cabot; two daughters, Terry Delong of Cabot and Brenda Wade of Austin; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her mother, Ella Walters; one brother, Bud Walters; five sisters, Mary Lester, Ann Taylor, Doris Ball, Clara Maples and Louise Lucky.

Funeral was Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Briarwood Baptist Church, Cabot, with burial in Dunkard Cemetery by Westbrook Funeral Home.

Frances E. Little

Frances E. Wahl Tibbett Little, 88, of Little Rock died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003.
She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Cabot and former member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Jacksonville.

She is survived by her sons, Bill Tibbett of Little Rock, Don Tibbett of Heber Springs; daughter, Cecille Hughes of Jacksonville; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Pine Bluff. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Helen Marie Mitchell

Helen Marie Coyle Mitchell, 63, died Dec. 5, 2003.

She is survived by daughters, Roxanne Hoggard of Memphis and Melissa Lingo of Conway; three grandchildren; three sisters, Billie Gammel, Carlisle, Geraldine Dollar, Conway, and Cynthia Taylor, Mayflower.

Graveside service was Sunday at Old Carlisle Cemetery; arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
