Ralph E. Williams

Ralph E. Williams, age 79, of Cabot, died Sunday Dec. 14, 2003. He was a veteran of WWII and had retired from ABF.

Survived by his wife Donna Mahoney Williams; two sons James and Ralph ; two daughters: Marsha and Beth; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; step-daughters, six grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 18. Services were Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 at Faith Christian Center in Cabot. Interment was at Fairplay Cemetery near Malvern. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Services in Cabot.

Vernie Mae Dankert

Vernie Mae Dankert, 65, died Dec. 18, 2003. She is survived by her husband Ron Dankert, her children, Debbie Sutherland of Wynne, Pat Purvis of Little Rock, Mike Purvis of Glen Allen,Va. and James Purvis of Bend, Ore., her sister Diane Reeves of Forrest City, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Services were Monday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke. Interment follow at Brownsville Cemetery.

Lloyd E. Ringgold

Lloyd Edwin Ringgold, 75, of Little Rock, died Dec. 20, 2003.

He was born in Cabot, and served in the United States Merchant Marines in 1948-52. He was an employee of Olin Matheson Chemical Corporation in North Little Rock for 20 years and an active member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers international Union Local 5-379. He became a mediator for the Arkansas Department of Labor and was promoted in that agency to the office of Deputy Director. After his employment with the Department of Labor, he again served the OCAW as an international representative until retiring.

His survivors include Mary, his wife of 52 years; his children, Steve and Christine Ringgold and Kathy and Carl Lindstrom of Little Rock, Larry and Cheryl Ringgold of North Little Rock, and Kenny and Gerri Ringgold of Maumelle; and five grandchildren.

Funeral Services were Dec. 22, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, North Little Rock, with interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Hattie Mae Leggett

Hattie Mae Leggett, age 84, of Cabot and a former resident of West Memphis, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003.

She was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Ret. Lt. Col. J.W. Leggett; a daughter, Karon Derrick; one brother, R.C. Hinson; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 23, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Crittenden Memorial Park, West Memphis.

John Dexter Jones

John “Dexter” Jones, 73, of Des Arc, died Dec. 20, 2003.

He served as a U.S. Marine from Feb. 7, 1952, until Jan. 29, 1954, and served in the Korean War and was involved with advanced nuclear testing while stationed in Camp Pendleton, Calif. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a farmer, a surveyor and a business owner.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas Jones of Cabot and Dexter Jones of Cabot; five daughters, Brenda Sears of Searcy, Diane Jones and Marsha Pridemore of Cabot, Carmen Sehon of Little Rock and Tammy Holland of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Larry Jones and David Jones, both of Lonoke; and one sister, Shirley Metcalf of Spokane, Wash.; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Garth Funeral Home with interment at Lakeside Cemetery Monday, Dec. 22.

Paul Emery Mailhiot

Paul Emery Mailhiot, 62, of Ward died on Dec. 18, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Karen Mailhiot, formerly of Tucson; son and daughter, Kevin and Michele Mailhiot; daughter, Brenda White, of Danby, Vt.; sister, Nancy Stout of Tucson; brother, David Mailhiot of Pittsford, Vt.; six grandchildren.

Arrangement by Cabot Funeral Home.

Irene C. Ellington

Irene Carroll Ellington, 88, of North Little Rock died Thursday Dec. 18, 2003.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert P. Ellington of North Little Rock; two sons, William C. Bird of Cabot and Richard L. Bird of El Dorado; daughter, Bobbye Ellington of Elora, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She worked as a pharmacist’s assistant for over 30 years at Lakehill Pharmacy and Bevans Drugs.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 5200 Fairway Ave., North Little Rock, Ark., 72116.

Funeral service was Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.

John Henry Freeman

John Henry “Buddy” Freeman,, age 71, of North Little Rock died Dec. 16, 2003.
Survived by four daughters, Diann Wallace, Liz Thrash McMillion both of Texarkana, Texas, Darlene Worthern, Troy, Ohio, Monica Powell, Cabot; sons, Cecil Smith, Antonio Freeman of North Little Rock, John Smith, Little Rock, Calvin Brewer, Nisbit, Mo., Willie Thomas, Texas; sister, Irene Freeman, Little Rock; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Dec. 22, Friendly Chapel Church of Nazarene.

Laurene Gately

Martha Laurene Gately, 80, of Cabot, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2003 at her home. She was a loving mother, homemaker, and former substitute teacher for Cabot Schools. Born November 8, 1923 to Charles and Ada Templeton, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Gately and her brother, Charles Templeton. She is survived by a daughter, Jo, and husband Samuel Howell of Cabot; a son, John C. and wife Laura Gately of Maumelle; five grandchildren, Laura Ferguson of Frisco TX, Brian and Steven Howell of Cabot, and Renee and Johnny Gately of Maumelle. There are also three grandsons, Grant, Matthew and Austin. Mrs. Gately leaves a host of friends at First Baptist Church of Cabot where she was a dedicated member for 55 years and volunteer at the FBC Care House and FBC Library.

Funeral services were Tuesday, December 23, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Cabot. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church Library. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Beatrice B. Hargis

Beatrice B. Hargis, 82, of Nashville, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003.
Services were Friday, Dec. 19, at Latimer Funeral Home with burial in Ozan Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Nichoalds of Lonoke, Peggy Weatherford of Nashville; and one sister, Maxine Rose of Little Rock.

Larry Smart

Larry Smart, 49, of North Little Rock died Dec. 16, 2003.

He was an employee of Fleet Tire Company of North Little Rock.
He is survived by two brothers - David Smart of Cabot and Virgil Smart of North Little Rock; three sisters - Frances Davis and Linda York, both of North Little Rock, and Betty Bostic of Sherwood.

Graveside service was Friday at Arkansas Memorial Gardens. North Little Rock Funeral Home was in charge.

Tiffany Ann Tate

Tiffany Ann Tate, age 16, died Dec. 14, 2003.

Survivors: father, Robert Tate of Lonoke; mother, Judy Ann Tate, England; grandparents, Gerald and Carol Williams and Lois Tate of Lonoke and Maxine Wise, England; two brothers and three sisters.

Services were Saturday, Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke, with interment in New Hope Cemetery.

Evan M. Jackson

Evan Matthew Jackson, infant, of Hot Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003.
Survivors include his father, Matthew Stephen Jackson; his mother, Tracie Pozarek both of Farmington; and grandparents, Mike & Yvonne Pozarek of Cabot and Steve & Terry Jackson of Hot Springs.

Services were Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at First Baptist Church, Hot Springs with burial at Memorial Gardens.
