Oscar Tom Moreland, 73, Dumas, died Sept. 15, 2003.

Born in Lonoke, he was a Baptist, a mechanic and a veteran.

Services were Thursday, Sept. 18, Griffin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Walnut Lake Cemetery. Arrangements by Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas, Ark.
Willie Mae Terry

Willie Mae Hart Terry, 75, of Lonoke, died Sept. 16, 2003.

She is survived by her son, Ernest Terry, Lonoke; nine daughters, Alma Walker and Shirley Terry of Little Rock, Joyce Terry, Delores Stirgus Barbara Ramos of Jacksonville, Debra Carroll, Mae Scott, Erma Shepherd of Lonoke, Carolyn Williams of Chicago, Ill.; one step-daughter, Linda Perry of North Little Rock; one sister, Ernestine Evans of Maumelle; 49 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 51 step-great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 20, at First Pentecostal Church, Old Jacksonville Hwy., by Premier Funeral Home, Little Rock.

Ruby Young

Ruby Young, 79, of Carlisle died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.

Survived by two sons, Jim and Greg Brizendine; one stepson, Jerald Brizendine; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Saturday at Brownsville Cemetery near Lonoke.

Eva A. Langford

Eva A. Langford, 102, of Lonoke and formerly of Russellville, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.

She was self employed for many years as a seamstress, specializing in making wedding dresses. She was a member of the 5th & Greenwich Church of Christ in Russellville.

She is survived by three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sept. 20, at Humphrey Chapel. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service.

William R. Westbrook

William Raymond Westbrook, Major retired, Arkansas National Guard, age 75, of Lonoke, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.

He was a former member of the 39th Aviation Squadron of the Arkansas National Guard, a Mason, and a member of Carlisle Lodge #587.

He is survived by one son, William R. Westbrook Jr. of Arizona; two daughters, Myra Barton of Memphis and Susan Harvey of Hot Springs; three brothers, Harry Westbrook of Hazen, Charles Westbrook of Rose Bud, and Jimmy Westbrook of Keo; two sisters, Martha Melkovitz of Keo and Nancy Hurst of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 20 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Interment was in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Elizabeth Jean Landis

Elizabeth Jean Landis, 75, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003.
She was a member of Amboy Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wayne G. Landis; three children, Phillip Landis of Wichita, Kan., Wanda Landis of Cabot and Lynne Landis of North Little Rock; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Phillip Burkhalter of Anahuac, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 2200 Ft. Roots Drive, North Little Rock, Ark. 72114.

Funeral service was Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.

Connie Uhiren

Connie Simmons Uhiren, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003.
A lifelong resident of Prairie County, she was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church at Slovak.

Survivors include four sons, Paul Uhiren Jr. and Michael Uhiren, both of Houston, Miss., Steve Uhiren of Stuttgart and Bill Uhiren of Carlisle; seven daughters, Barbara Ausbrooks and Rosalie Boudreau, both of Riverside, Calif., Sandra Poynter of Sandy Hook, Ky., Mary Curci of Victorville, Calif., Sharon Murphy of Sheridan, Regina Staton of Lonoke, and Pam Toland of Stuttgart; one sister, Eupal Ray of San Antonio, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rosary services were Friday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were Saturday at Sts. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church with burial in Slovak Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Cyril and Methodious Church.

Joy Ingram Joyner

Joy Ingram Joyner, 84, of El Dorado died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003.

She taught in the one-room schools of Van Buren County, getting her first teaching assignment at age 16. Later she worked for the Arkansas Social Services Department for 10 years and for the Arkansas Employment Security Division for 24 years before returning to the teaching profession.

Survivors include her son, Paul Joyner of El Dorado and a granddaughter.
Services were Tuesday at Roller-McNutt Chapel in Clinton, with burial in the Colony Cemetery at Morganton.

James Kinley

James Garrett Kinley, M.D., age 66, of Ward, prominent physician at Beebe, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kinley; one son, Hugh Kinley of Tulsa, OK and his sister, Eleanor Jackson of Chicago, IL.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. The family asks that memorials be made to Camp Aldersgate, 2000 Aldersgate Road, Little Rock, AR 72205.

Ruth Ida Overton

Ruth Ida Williams Overton, 90, of Austin, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003. She was a member of Apple Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Roy A. Williams of Austin, Arkansas and Billy C. Williams of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grand-children.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Friday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at Westbrook Chapel with burial at Apple Hill Cemetery in Ward.

Rev. Evelyn Nick Poe

Rev. Evelyn Nick Poe, 84, Beebe, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003. She was a retired ordained Assembly of God Minister.

She is survived by a son, James Nick, of Shirley; a daughter, Jean Haymes, of Beebe; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Westbrook Chapel, with burial at Antioch Cemetery.

Herman C. L. Witcher

Herman C. L. Witcher, age 83, of Bixby, Okla., formerly of Ward, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003. He was a retired millwright from Reynolds Aluminum; a veteran of World War II; and a member of First Baptist Church, Ward.

Surviving are his wife, Macle Witcher of Bixby; one son, Aubrey Witcher of Benton; one stepson, David Starrett of Little Rock; one stepaughter, Linda Pittser, of Bixby; one brother, John R. (Junior) Witcher of Ward; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Family receive friends Monday at Westbrook Funeral Home. Funeral was Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Ward, with burial in Mt. Spring Cemetery by Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Zelma E. Harrison

Zelma Earlene Harrison, 56, of Ward, died Saturday, September 27, 2003 in Searcy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Minnick and Viola Nelson. She is survived by her husband, Leon Harrison of Ward; son, Lee Harrison, of Ward; brother, Michael Nelson of CA; 3 sisters, Mikki Bolt of LA, Koneta Levan of OH, and Donna Hamby of Cabot; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 9 am-2 pm at Cabot Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 2 pm. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Apple Hill Cemetery, Austin. Arrangements were by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Breyanna Skinner

Breyanna Skinner, infant daughter of John and Jasmine Skinner of Austin, Arkansas, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003. Graveside services were Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at Sylvania Cemetery in Ward. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home.

Narvel Winfrey

Narvel Winfrey, retired farmer, went to be with the Lord, September 29, 2003. He was the son of the late Claude & Dixie Winfrey. Born in Lonoke County April 18, 1924, he could hitch a mule to a plow at age seven. He joined the Navy during WW II and was a radioman aboard the USS Hollis a destroyer escort in the Pacific Fleet. His ship was present in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. He loved farming, especially cotton. He enjoyed traveling with his family and retired at 62 so he and his wife could travel even more, making one trip to Alaska in a van, selling it and flying home. Preceding him in death is his wife of 54 years, Billie Jean Wharton Winfrey and brother, Gene Winfrey.

Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Mason (Richard) of Sherwood and Amy Staggs (Will) of North Little Rock; sisters, Eathel Howard and Betty Evans of Lonoke and Moreen Stroud of Mayflower; grandchildren, Amanda Butler (Barry) of Conway and Brent Staggs (Josie) of North Little Rock; step-granddaughter, Monica Harmon of Sherwood, great-granddaughter, Savannah Staggs of North Little Rock and step-great-granddaughter, Mason Harmon of Sherwood. Also surviving is a special friend, Pat Beaver of Lonoke. He was a devoted husband and a good daddy.

Funeral Services were Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Lonoke Baptist Church with interment in Weedon Cemetery; arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Weedon Cemetery Fund; Lonoke Baptist Church or Brownsville Baptist Church.
