Alan B. Liles
Alan B. Liles, age 44, of Lonoke, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002.
Surviving are his wife, Anderia Liles; his parents, C.B. and Mary Frances Liles; one brother, Tommy Liles, all of Lonoke; one sister, Diane Arnold of Austin.
Memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 20, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2540 Bethlehem Road, Lonoke, Ark., 72086; or Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Central Arkansas, 628 West Broadway, Suite 102, North Little Rock, Ark., 72114. Arrangements by Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Oral Waddell
Oral Ernest Waddell, age 75, of Vilonia died Wednesday, Dec. 18 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and was a member of Vilonia United Method-ist Church.
Described by his family as “a loving man full of wisdom, wit and free advice,” he considered himself extremely blessed with a large, loving family and until his bout with cancer, he enjoyed good health.
He is survived by his wife, Oma Nell Waddell of Vilonia, seven children: Jeannine Flowers, Malden, Mo.; LaVaughn Waddell, Mountain Grove, Mo.; Kim Waddell, Carlisle; Bridget Pitonyak, Robin Rhoades, George Waddell, all of Little Rock; and Kristy Townsend of Bentonville; a stepdaughter: Lianne Cole of Vilonia; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a multitude of other loving family members and friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Vilonia United Methodist Church.

Myrtle Ann McKeever
Mrytle Ann McKeever, 91, of Memphis died Dec. 19, 2002.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m., Dec. 23, at Forest Hill Chapel-East, with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery East.
She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Cabot.

Ricky C. Watson
Ricky C. Watson, age 44, of England died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora Jeans Watson of England; two daughters, Jennifer Watson of North Carolina and Shannon Watson of Little Rock; his parents, Charles and Dean Watson of Lonoke; two brothers, Randy Watson and wife, Lavonne of Forrest City, and Ronnie Watson and wife, Rhonda of Lonoke, and a sister, Robbie Watson of Lonoke; three newphews, one niece, three aunts and three uncles.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Andy Kerr officiating. Burial was in Brownsville Cemetery.

C.C. Hodge
C.C. Hodge, 65, of Russellville died March 2, 2002.
Survivors include a son, James Hodge of Hot Springs; stepsons, Jackie Hubbard of Russellville and George Corbin of Little Rock; a stepdaughter, June Vance of Pennsylvania; sisters, Patsy Fulfer of Cabot and Oneta Ramsey of Russellville; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was March 4 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

James Cunningham
James Chester Cunningham, 66, of Wright died Feb. 26, 2002.
He was a farm manager with J.O. Bennett & Sons in Lonoke, and a member of the Eastside Church of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sanchez Cunningham of Wright; a son, Chris Cunningham of Gallaton, Tenn.; daughters, Nicole Crawford of Humnoke and Jamie Cunningham of Woodlawn; stepdaughters, Lisa Favers of White Hall, Rockie James of Sherrill, Chrissy Phillips and Nikkie Simpier, both of Pine Bluff; brothers, Bobby Cunningham of DeWitt, Omer L. Cunningham Jr. of Reydel and Charles Cunningham of Humphrey; sisters, Betty Wilson of DeWitt and Jessie Reynolds of Pine Bluff; eight grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
Funeral was March 1 in the chapel of Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Eastside Church of Jesus Christ, 1002 E. 8th St., Pine Bluff, Ark. 71601.

Bernice K. Starks
Bernice Kimble Starks, 39, of Jacksonville died Feb. 19, 2002.
She was a member of Amazing Grace Temple of Deliverance C.O.G.I.C., Jacksonville.
Funeral was March 2 at Faith Christian Center, Jacksonville. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lonoke, by Robinson Mortuary.

James Hester
James Arthur Hester, 55, of Sherwood died Feb. 26, 2002.
He was an educator in the Hughes Public Schools, and worked at the Arkansas Department of Education. He was a member of Sylvan Hills UMC, a member of the Arkansas Ceramic Association, North Pulaski Retired Teachers, North Little Rock Shepherd Center, Arkansas Elementary School Council, Charlie Mae Simon Reading Committee, and associate director of North Central Association for Accreditation.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hester.
Memorials may be made to the Sylvan Hills UMC, 9715 Reeves Ave., NLR 72120.
Funeral was Thursday at Sylvan Hills UMC, with burial in Sylvania Cemetery.

Betty Ruth Smith
Betty Ruth Hartle Smith, age 60, of Cabot, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Helton and Helen Stokes Christmas, ex-husband, Joe Clifford Hartle Sr., and a grandson, Jason Hartle.
She is survived by her three children, MSgt. Joe Clifford Hartle Jr., and his wife, Irene, of Washington, Debra Lee Hartle of Maryland and Sharon Ruth Leuck and her husband, Jeff, of Indiana; four sisters, Joyce Cooper of Indiana, Martha Odom of Missouri, Sherry Hicks of Washington and Carol Christmas of Indiana; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Augusta Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Cabot Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care Inc., 1501 N. University, Suite 500, Little Rock, Ark. 72207.

Billy J. Thompson
Billy J. Thompson, born Feb. 15, 1930 in Lonoke, Ark., where he was reared on a farm, died Feb. 27, 2002, at the age of 72.
He graduated from Fairview High School, Ft. Benning military School, and Beebe (now Arkansas State University) college. He taught school at Fairview, worked for Southwestern Transportation Company in Little Rock, Ark-Mo Lumber Company, and was Lonoke City water superintendent for 10 years. He was elected Lonoke County assessor in 1966, and served 28 years (1967-1994). He retired on Dec. 21, 1994.
He had a background of service to his state and local community. He served in the Arkansas National Guard 39 years and was past commander of the Lonoke unit. He served as president of the Arkansas Assessors Association, President of the Lonoke Lions Club, a member of the Optimist Club and was the service man’s representative to military families of the local American Red Cross. He was a member of the Lonoke Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was past commissioner and chairman of the Rural Development Authority of Lonoke County. He served as a member of the Lonoke Mosquito Conrol Board and a member of the Lonoke United Methodist Church. He was a Mason. He also belonged to the Lonoke County Historical Society, Lonoke County Museum and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He loved to deer hunt and was a member of Club 11 hunting club. He loved Lonoke County history, as well as world and military history.
Billy is survived by his wife, Nedra. They would have been married 50 years on June 12, 2002. He is also survived by three sons, Gary, and wife, Dixie, of Zionsville, Ind., Paul and wife, Cynthia, of Lonoke, and Casey of Lonoke. He is survived by four grandchildren, Erin, Rachel, Ryan and Rebecca. He is also survived by his loving companion and dog, Beauregard. He is also survived by two brothers, Harry Thompson of Lonoke, and Jerry Thompson of Searcy, and a sister, Sharon Clark of Lonoke.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, at Lonoke United Methodist Church with interment in Concord Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 152, Lonoke, Ark. 72086, the Concord Cemetery Association, 1010 AR Hwy. 294, Lonoke, Ark. 72086, or a favorite charity.

Al T. Pheiffer
Al T. Pheiffer, age 91, of Lonoke died Saturday, March 2, 2002.
He was married to the late Rubye Owens Pheiffer for 44 years. He was a retired truck driver, and a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, chairman of the administrative board, chairman of the finance committee, and was secretary of the Sunday School for several years. He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the South Pacific. He was a past master of the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #587, and a past patron of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and a number of sisters-in-law.
Funeral service was held Monday, March 4, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Carlisle by the Rev. Wade Shownes. Interment was in the Hicks Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Hicks, Larry Weathers, Pat Raborn, Steve Elliott and Gary Perkins. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
