Myrtle Joyce Wilson
Myrtle Joyce Page Wilson, 73, died March 14, 2002.
She was a member of the Lonoke Baptist Church, a retired school nurse with the Lonoke School District for 28 years. She was valedictorian of her class at Brinkley High School and Arkansas Baptist School of Nursing. She enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time at Greers Ferry Lake. She was married for 46 years to William F. Wilson, who preceded her in death.
She leaves behind a daughter, Emily Roberts; a son, Page Wilson and his wife, Cary, of Lonoke; grandchildren, Greg Horness and wife, Christy, of Beebe, Allison Roberts, Ian Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Wilson all of Lonoke, and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Lonoke Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Cancer Research Center or a favorite charity.

Ola Gaines
Ola Myrtle McMullen Gaines, age 82, of Ward, died March 14, 2002.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ward. She retired from Franklin Electric of Jacksonville.
Surviving are two sons, Walter Lee Gaines of Alpena, Harold Wayne Gaines of Ward; two daughters, Glenda Rea Feagins of Hartford, Kan., Betty Gail Butler of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Franklin Pace of Burlison, Tenn.; one sister, Estell Ballard of Burlison, Tenn.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was March 18, at Westbrook Chapel with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

Thelma Jackson
Thelma Jackson, age 100, died Thursday, March 14, 2002.
Survivors are two sons, Harold Jackson of Ward, Barney Jackson of Searcy; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, March 16, Searcy Funeral Home Chapel.

Frances Roderweis
Frances Marie Roderweis, 80, of Jacksonville died Sunday, March 17, 2002.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Healy of Waterwood, Texas, Paulette Deuink of Cabot; brother, Fred Douglas of Cabot; sister, Joann Clements of Cabot; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was March 19, at Cabot Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Sumner Cemetery.

Douglas Bing
Douglas Wayne “Pappy” Bing, age 83, of Lake Village died Saturday, March 16, 2002.
He was a member of the Lake Village Baptist Church. He served his community as a city councilman, past Justice of the Peace and past member of the Board of Delta Counseling and Guidance Services. His work career included services with the U.S. Corps of Engineers, farming and as a youth probation officer with Delta Counseling Services.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mabel Craig Bing; three sons, Wayne Bing of Bastrop, La., Craig Bing of Lake Village and Buck Bing of Cabot; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Lake Village Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Lake Village Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.

Alberta F. Williams
Alberta Finklea Williams, age 76, of Scott died March 13, 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita (William) McKinney of Scott; one foster daughter, Annie Holmes of Montgomery, Ala.; two brothers, Sylvester Finklea and Jeff (Marguerite) Finklea Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one aunt, Virginia Finklea of Little Rock; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Baptist Church, Lonoke, with interment in Lonoke Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Cecile J. Melton
Cecile Jackson Melton, born Feb. 17, 1906, died March 18, 2002.
She was a resident of Presbyterian Village in Little Rock, and a member of Lonoke United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Lonoke High School, attended Macon Andrews Business College in Memphis, served as Deputy County Clerk of Lonoke County and was a past employee with the Arkansas Department of Health.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy Eagle Melton; and a daughter, Nancy Jean Melton.
She is survived by a brother, Earl Jackson; nieces and nephews, Joe and Barbara Melton, Carolyn and J.L. High, all of Lonoke, Fletcher and Jayne Jackson of Little Rock and Rosemary and Dick McKensie of Fairhope, Ala.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, in Lonoke Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.
Memorials may be made to Lonoke United Methodist Church, Lonoke Cemetery, or Concord Cemetery Fund.

Dr. Orville W. Rook

Dr. Orville Woodrow Rook died at his home Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2002, at the age of 81 years. He was born October 3, 1920, the youngest of five children to John Wesley and Leona Grant Rook. He attended the Cabot Public Schools and graduated in 1938. He was graduated in 1940 from Beebe Jr. College, and received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Hendrix College in 1942.
Following graduation, Dr. Rook served in the Weather Squadron of the United States Air Force from 1942-1946.

He received a Master of Arts degree from Louisiana State University in 1947 and then completed his Ph.D. degree in History from the University of Wisconsin in 1958. His dissertation was in German History. He taught in the Little Rock School System, the Pulaski County School System, and also at UALR. Dr. Rook joined the faculty of the University of Central Arkansas in 1958 as an assistant professor in History and was made a full professor in 1965. He was the first Dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities serving from 1969-1975. He was listed in “Who’s Who in America” in 1973. Dr. Rook was a member of the American Historical Association, The Mississippi Valley Historical Association, the Arkansas Historical Association, a charter member of the Faulkner County Historical Society, and a member of Phi Alpha Theta. He was the first director of the University of Central Arkansas Honors Program. He retired in 1993 having completed 35 years of teaching.

In 1947, Dr. Rook was united in marriage with the former Virginia Short, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 30, 2002. Dr. Rook was a member of the First United Methodist Church having served as an usher, on the Administrative Board, and President of the Men’s Bible Class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl Rook and Stanley Rook; two sisters; Ruth Brewer and Jewel Pelligrino.

Dr. Rook is survived by his wife, Virginia Short Rook; one son, Dr. Robert B. Rook and wife, Lynnette; and one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Rook Thacker and husband, Steve all of Conway; ten grandchildren, Sam and Julie Phifer, Katie Rook, Carter Rook and Anne Rook all of Conway, Ashley Phifer of Beaverton, Ore., Robert Thacker, Marcie Caldwell, Taylor and Matt Brown all of Conway; one nephew, Jerome Pelligrino of Corpus Christi, Texas; and three nieces, Jerry Floyd of Little Rock, Mattie Gaston of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Pat Beyer of Belleview, Wa.; and two loving and dedicated care-givers, Geraldine Perkins and Diane Wright. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Conway, Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Phil Hathcock, and Dr. Joel Cooper officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home (327-7727). A general visitation was at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Hal Crafton, Dr. Leo Crafton, Sam Phifer, Carter Rook, Bennie Battles, and Bill Short.

The family suggests that memorials may be given to the Orville Rook Scholarship Fund at Hendrix College, 1600 Washington Ave., Conway, Arkansas 72032, or to the Conway High School Athletic Fund, c/o Coach Kenny Smith, 2300 Prince St., Conway, Arkansas 72034.

Pearline Banks

Pearline Banks, 87, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002.
Arrangements were by Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home.

Jonathan L. Flynn

Jonathan Lorne Flynn, 30, of Carlisle died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002.

He was a 1990 graduate of Carlisle High School and attended Henderson State University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was a 1994 graduate of Pulaski Technical College, with a degree in respiratory therapy.
Jon touched many lives while working in respiratory care for Baptist Medical Center systems.

He is survived by two loving sons, Ryan and Tanner Flynn of Moro, Ark.; his parents, Don and Carolyn Flynn of Carlisle; one brother, Coy Flynn, and his wife, Sarah; a nephew, Colton Flynn of North Little Rock; grandmothers, Rose DeWhitt and Rebecca Flynn, both of Carlisle, and many loving cousins, aunts and uncles.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Hamilton Methodist Church, with interment in Hamilton Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Annie Harris Davis

Annie B. Harris Davis (Sis), 63, Lonoke, died Thursday, Sept. 12.

She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Lonoke.

She is survived by husband, Freddie; four sons, Sam, Lonoke, Calvin, North Little Rock, James, Camden, Tyrice Davis, Germany; four daughters, Annette Nellan, Lonoke, Gloria Sabbs, Lonoke, Lisa and Tammy Davis, Pine Bluff; seven brothers, Jack Harris, Los Angeles, Finnie Harris, Little Rock, Nathaniel, Charles, Darnell Scott, Lonoke, James Scott, Pine Bluff, Sam, Scott, Clarksville; two sisters, Mattie Woodard, Lonoke, Bessie Matthew, Pine Bluff; one stepsister, Doris Jones, Lonoke; 30 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Lonoke. Services entrusted to Robinson Mortuary, North Little Rock.

Ernest Alton Glover

Ernest Alton Glover, 61, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.

He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, retired from the North Little Rock Police Department with 35 years service and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Municipal Police Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie (Kilgore) Glover; two sons, Jeff Glover and Scot Glover, both of North Little Rock; two granddaughters; four brothers, Joe Glover, Clifton Glover, Roy Glover and Alan Glover, all of Lonoke.

Graveside services were Saturday at Hicks Cemetery, Lonoke County. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Rosa Lee Tatum

Rosa Lee Tatum, 81, of North Little Rock died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002.

She is survived by her brother, Clarence Morris of North Little Rock; sister, Annette Vail of Model, Colo.; sons, Alvin Tatum of Lonoke, Bob Tatum of Little Rock, Bill Tatum of North Little Rock; one daughter, Sandra Evans of El Dorado; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 13 at New Life Pentecostal Church at Scott.

Alice Bates Davis

Alice Bates Davis, 98, of Lonoke died Wednesday.

Funeral services were Saturday at the Church of the Nazarene in West Helena.
Survivors are a daughter, two sons, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens of West Helena.
