Paul Daniel Dunn

Paul Daniel Dunn, age 31, of Maumelle died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002.
He was a member of the Chenal Valley Church of Christ and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was employed with USAble Life Insurance Company. He was honored to be allowed to carry the 2002 Winter Olympic Torch through Little Rock in December 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Kristi Lea Spears Dunn; son, Jerry Parker Dunn of Maumelle; mother, Rhonda Dunn of Cabot; sister, Jennifer Dunn of Little Rock; grandparents, Annelle Dunn of North Little Rock and Margaret Campbell of Forrest City.

Funeral services were Oct. 9, at the Chenal Valley Church of Christ with burial in Rest Hills Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care, 2225 Prince Street, Conway, Ark. 72034 or ALS Foundation at UAMS.

Shirley Cates

Shirley Cates, age 64, of Beebe, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002.

She was retired from Beebe Public School after 27 years of service. She was a member of White County Master Gardeners Club and Antioch Extension Homemakers Club. She was a Baptist and a member of Antioch Community Church.

Surviving are her husband, Bill Cates of Beebe; two children, John Cates of Ward and Nancy McKay of Cabot; five grandchildren; one brother, Shirrel (Bud) Simpson of Enola /Mt. Vernon; one sister, Jean Stripling of Clinton.
Funeral was Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Antioch Church, with burial in Antioch Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Cemetery Fund, c/o J.D. Cordell, 136 Cordell Road, Beebe, Ark., 72012.

Edward Coleman

Edward Berl Coleman, 77, of Cabot died Oct. 5, 2002.

He was the owner of a material handling company until his retirement and a Deacon of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

He is survived by his wife, Alladene; son, Michael Coleman of North Little Rock; three grandchildren; brothers, J.D. Coleman of Black Oak, Glen, Aaron, Douglas, and Franklin Coleman all of Paragould.

Funeral services were Oct. 9, at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, 7700 Highway 107, Sherwood. Interment was in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock.

Memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.

George Riley Wood

George Riley Wood, 96, died Oct. 5, 2002.

He was born Aug. 31, 1906 in Rector, to George and Oflia Wood.

Survivors include his daughter, Patty Waggoner and son-in-law, Wayne Waggoner; grandsons, Ricky Joe Givesna nd his wife, Diane, and Brent Waggoner and his wife, Tammy of Carlisle, and Tony Waggoner of Benton; two granddaughters, Jean Raborn and husband, Rex, and Tina Ellis and husband, David, of Georgia; 10 great-grandchildren, Joe, Josh, Sarah, Brandon and Katye of Carlisle, Brian, Heather, Taylor, Brittany and Brianna of Georgia.

Services were Wednesday at Hamilton Baptist Church, with interment in Hamilton Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Edna D. Howard

Edna Delories “Sis” Howard, age 89, of Jacksonville died Oct. 5, 2002.
She was born in Ward.

She is survived by three sons — Claude, Eugene and George Howard, all of Jacksonville; two daughters — Thelma Ainsworth of Butlerville and Velma Lake of North Little Rock; two sisters — Lola Trickey of Alabama, Mary Thompkins of Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Oct. 8, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Burial was in Butlerville Cemetery.

George Johnson

George Sylvester Johnson, 84, of Cabot, a retired farmer, died Oct. 4, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Johnson; children, Georgia Palmer, Cabot, Diane Davis and Betty Wright, Conway, Brenda Rettstatt and Michael Johnson, Jacksonville, James Spears and George Johnson Jr., Scott; sister, Hazel Heflin; and brother, Chester Johnson, California; 22 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren.

Services were Monday, Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke, with burial in Lonoke Cemetery.

Marie Cole

Marie Cole, 67, died Oct. 6, 2002.

Survivors include son, Dale Cole, Lonoke; daughter, Phyllis Cole, Texas; brothers, Scotty York, North Little Rock, “Turk” Marlin York, Lonoke, Faye York of Washington, Charlie York, Oklahoma, and Roger York, Alabama; sisters, Clara Newton and Mary Ann Pearson, England, and Betty Cole of Lonoke; and four grandchildren, Little Dale, Kady, Jake and Clay.

Services were Tuesday, Steel Bridge Baptist Church, with interment in Lonoke Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Fletcher J. McClain

Fletcher J. McClain, 78, Beebe, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.

He was retired from Chicago District Council of Carpenters, member of Beebe First Baptist Church, WWII Air Force veteran, life member of DAV, and member of American Legion Post 0001, North Little Rock.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jo Eva; two sons, Charles F. McClain, and Cecil McClain of Beebe; two daughters, Shirley Turner of Montgomery, Ill., Glenda J. Dayton of Loveland, Colo.; two brothers, Harold McClain of Camden, Clinton McClain of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Madeline Parchman, Des Arc, Florence Simpson of Beebe; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two greatgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday, Oct. 7, at Beebe First Baptist Church with burial in Lonoke Cemetery.

Joyce Marie Prior

Joyce Marie Prior passed into the presence of the Lord on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ora Earl Prior; mother, Fannie Elizabeth (Jones) Prior; two brothers, Alvin and Ralph Prior; and one sister, Della Mae Uhiren.

She is survived by four sisters, Frances Gales of Lonoke, Aline Grady and Ruby Carpenter of Hazen, and Alma Fannelli of New York.

Services were Sunday at Abundant Life Pentecostal Church of God in Lonoke with burial at Center Point Cemetery in Hazen. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Bobby Kittler

Bobby Kittler, age 63, of Carlisle passed away Oct. 2, 2002, after a very long and courageous battle with cancer.

Through the years Bobby loved to hunt, fish and take care of his many animals.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Donald Kilgore; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Charlotte Kittler and Jerry and Patsy Kittler, all of Carlisle; nieces and nephews, Shannon Harvey, Ken Kittler, Stacie Dearen, Denton Ki Dearen, John David Kilgore, Jill Kilgore, Jerry Kilgore and Caitlyn Kilgore.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 5, at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke, with Bro. Freddie McCann officiating. Burial followed in Carlisle Cemetery.

Barbara E. Caldarera

Barbara Elaine Caldarera, 51, of North Little Rock died Oct. 6, 2002.
She was a member of Brockington Road Nazarene Church.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Caldarera Jr. of North Little Rock; daughter, Christa Burrows of Ward; mother, Mary Brown of North Little Rock; sister, Margaret Conway of Cabot; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, at Brockington Road Nazarene Church with interment in Edgewood Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Brockington Road Nazarene Church.

Melba N. Bennett

Melba Norene Bennett, age 79, of Carlisle died Oct. 13, 2002.
She was a retired registered nurse, a member of the Alturistic Club, and a member of the Carlisle First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Bennett and a son, Phillip Bennett.

Survivors are a daughter, Sharon Richardson and husband, Fred of Marion; one son, Gary Bennett and wife, Donna of Conway; one brother, Steve Brown of Milam, Ill.; grandchildren, Sara Beth and Jim Richardson of Marion and Shannon and Kyle Bennett of Conway.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Carlisle with interment in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Carlisle First Baptist Church or the Carlisle Cemetery.
