Raymond E. Powell

Raymond Edgar Powell, 85, of Cabot died Feb. 27, 2004.

He was a chief warrant officer in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in World War II and the Korean War, and retired May 31, 1971, from Andrews Air Force Base after 30 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Powell; seven sons - Raymond E. Powell, Jr., Douglas E. Powell, Robert E. Powell, John David Powell, Norman Allan Powell, Thomas Mehlin and Phillip Mehlin; and eight daughters - Ramona Joe Green, Geneva Joe, Betty Joe, Shirley Tidball, Mary Laakman, Patricia Norwood and Peggy Cobb; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A rosary was held Monday, March 1, 2004, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville, with a Mass of Christian burial March 2, at St. Jude’s with interment following at Rest Hills Memorial Park, North Little Rock. Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Jane Alice Askren

Jane Alice Askren died Feb. 28, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters - Kay Miller and Rita Elston - both of Lonoke; eight grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Monday at Hicks Cemetery, with Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke in charge.

Mack Wylie

Mack Wylie, 97, of Little Rock died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004.
He was employed with Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company in Shreveport and then with Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company in Houston. He retired from Transco in 1972.

He is survived by his first wife, Mary Feltus Wylie; daughter, Claire W. Pelton; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services were March 1, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Chapel, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cabot.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12 th, Little Rock, Ark., 72204.

Gladys May Stuckey

Gladys May Boyd Stuckey, 92, of Cabot died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004.
She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and General Sunday School secretary for 31 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Stuckey Haywood of Cabot; one son, Donald Ray Stuckey of Judsonia; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, 11923 Zion Hill Road, North Pulaski County.

Funeral service was Wednesday at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial was at Sumner Cemetery.

Ethel Todd Griffin

Ethel Todd Griffin, 84, of De Valls Bluff, died Feb. 25, 2004.
She worked for 15 years at Brinkley Mercy Hospital and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Valls Bluff.

Survivors are two sons, Richard Griffin of Cabot and Bob Griffin of Bryant; one daughter, Loretta Lawman of Tupelo, Miss; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Westbrook Funeral Home with burial in Oakland Cemetery in DeValls Bluff.

Drucilla B. Ford

Drucilla B. Ford, 81, of Van Buren died Wednesday.

She is survived by three daughters, Judy Smith of Alaska, Susan Pryor and Ima Jean Fuller, both of Cabot; one son, Glen of Van Buren; four sisters; two brothers; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Monday at Ocker Memorial Chapel at Allison Cemetery in Sequoyah County, Okla. Arrangements under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Johnny Hill

Johnny Hill, 68, of Longview, Texas, died Feb. 27, 2004.
Survivors are his mother, Beatrice Hill of California; brothers, Bob Hill of California, Richard Hill of Cabot.

Burial was in Longview, Texas. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home.

John William Porter,

John William Porter, age 81, of Beebe, died March 4, 2004. He was a farmer and dairy farmer. He served in World War II as Master Sergeant in China and India-Burma as an air transportation technician. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon, three Bronze Service Stars and the Bronze Star Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shawnee (Benton) Porter; one son, Johnny Porter and wife Ida Faye of Lonoke; one daughter, Thelessia Porter of Beebe; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Saturday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was. Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Beebe First Nazarene Church on Campground Road in Beebe, with burial in Beebe Cemetery.

Lottie Mae Chrisp

Lottie Mae Chrisp, 83, formerly of Lonoke, died March 4, 2004. She is survived by three daughters: Helen Ryan of Oppelo, Willie Lawson of Lonoke, and Ethel Chrisp of Perryille, two brothers, Leonard Spradlin of North Little Rock, Edward Spradlin of Russellville, two sisters, Melva Williams of Lonoke and Velma Roberts of Pine Bluff, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Services were Saturday, Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke, with interment at Brownsville Cemetery.

Virginia E. Matlock

Virginia E. Matlock, formerly of Arkansas, died March 5, 2004. She is survived by her children, Lester Matlock, Henry Matlock and Nellie Mowrer, all of Indiana, Roy Matlock of Stuttgart, Arkansas, Victor Matlock of Malvern, Arkansas, Charles Matlock of Arizonia, Margaret Taglavore of Texas, Louise Potter of New Mexico and Geneva Goodger of Michigan; 30 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Matlock and one grandchild. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hebron United Methodist Church, located 9 miles north of Carlisle on Hwy 13 and ¾ mile west on Hwy 236. Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Agnes Marie Hunter

Agnes Marie Hunter, 88 of Little Rock died March 6, 2004.
She was a psychiatric nurse working at the Arkansas State Hospital until her retirement in 1981.

She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Howard of Jacksonville and Rickie Lockwood of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister Iris Blasingame of Cabot.

Funeral service was Tuesday, March 9, at Ward United Methodist Church, with burial in Stoney Point Cemetery at Beebe.

Chester Wayne Gills

Chester Wayne Gills, age 52, of Little Rock died March 2, 2004.
He is survived by a brother, James Gills of Cabot; and a sister, Betty Boldowsky of Baltimore, Md.

A private family service was held March 14, with internment at Pine Crest Cemetery.

Donations be made to The American Heart Association.
Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Services of Cabot.

Jimmy Sims Jr.

Jimmy Sims Jr., 38, died March 1, 2004.

Survivors include his mother, Edna Sims; wife, Katherine Sims, England; sister, Meriel Moseley, Cabot.

Services at Pentecostal Church of God in England with interment in Mulberry Cemetery, England. Services by Wilson Funeral Home, England.

Mary Ellen Culpepper

Mary Ellen Culpepper, 42, of Mabelvale died March 4, 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Montie Lee Culpepper; parents, Carl and Betty Farler of Mabelvale; sister, Sandra Simmons of Lenexa, Kan.; brothers, Tom Farler and Doug Farler, both of Mabelvale, and Mike Farler of Cabot.
Funeral was held at Ashby Funeral Home Saturday, March 6, with burial at Pinecrest Cemetery.
