Charles Griffis III

Charles Howell “Griff” Griffis III, 59, of Little Rock died April 6, 2004.

He was of the Methodist faith, and was a Navy veteran having served in Cuba during the Vietnam era. He was a retired security guard with St. Vincent’s Infirmary; prior to that he was a fireman for the Little Rock Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Glynn Griffis of Hensley; six daughters - Shari Fernandez of Murrieta, Calif., Susan Gray of Olive Branch, Miss., Hallie Muilenburg of Bauxite, Pam Meredith of Lonoke, Tammy Crockett of Greenbrier, and Becky Powell of North Little Rock; one son, Eddie Munnerlyn of Little Rock; his brother - Dale Griffis of Hensley; his mother, Jogene Griffis of Hensley; and 14 grandchildren.

A memorial service was held April 9, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Chapel, Little Rock.

James ‘Les’ Green

James “Les” Green died Thursday, April 6, 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters - Amy Curtis of Sherwood, Brigette Moody of Lonoke, and Natalie Wirzfeld of Shannon Hills; one son, Adam; his mother, Betty Green of Hoxie; two sisters - Connie of Hoxie and Sue Ann of Walnut Ridge; one brother - Mike of Bossier City, La.; and three grandchildren.

Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke, was in charge of arrangements. The celebration of his life was held April 9, at Gateway Fellowship Church.

Memorials may be sent to Gateway Fellowship Church.

Glenda Gail Gray

Glenda Gail Gray, 53, of Jacksonville, died April 9, 2004.

She was a member of Burns Street Church of Christ. She worked for Little Rock Water Company as a Key Punch operator.

Survivors are her husband of 35 years; her son, Glen; a granddaughter; parents, Norman and Eleanor Legg of Jacksonville; brother, Michael Legg of Broken Arrow, Okla.

A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, April 13.

Laura Louise Latch

Laura Louise Latch, 75, died Friday.

She was a retired nurse, and a Baptist.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Latch; daughter, Beverly Turner of Cabot; son, Kent Latch of Heber Springs; a granddaughter; sisters, Pauline Litaker; brothers, Norman Johnson, Harley Johnson, David Johnson, Curt Johnson.
Funeral was April 12, Olmstead Chapel, and interment, Cleburne County Memorial Gardens.

Kathryn Cranston

Kathryn Cranston, 96, of Garden City, Kan., died Thursday.
She is the mother of Harry Cranston Jr. of Lonoke.

Funeral was Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City.
Memorials may be made to the church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th St., Garden City, Kan., 67846.

Wanda Lynn Hicks

Wanda Lynn McClung Hicks, 72, of Deale, Md., died Thursday, April 8, 2004.
She was a member of Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan; and was a public school teacher specialist working with the hearing and vision impaired, and taught at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., from 1975 to 1992.

Survivors are husband, Doin E. Hicks of Deale, Md.; daughter, Janet Elaine Vance of Upper Marlboro, Md.; sisters, Bonnie Sue Herron of Hot Springs, Glyndel Gartman of Carlisle; and a grandson.

Funeral services were April 12, at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan, with burial at New Hope Cemetery near Sheridan.

Memorials may be made to Clyde and Delpha Hicks Scholarship Fund, c/o Lyon College, P.O. Box 2317, Batesville, Ark. 72503.

Ruth Finley Haag

Ruth Finley Haag, 87, of North Little Rock died April 9, 2004.
She was a member of Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church and was an employee of Dr. Amil Chupy for several years.
She is survived by three sons - Don Finley of Stockbridge, Ga., John Haag of Maumelle, and Jim Haag of Higden; two daughters - Lucy York Parsley and Carol Ann Hunter of Midland, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 West 12th, Little Rock, Ark. 72204.

Funeral services were Wednesday at North Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Glover Cemetery, Cabot.

Betty Howell

Betty Howell, age 74, of Sylvania, Arkansas, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, due to complications from pneumonia. She was born on September 15, 1929 and was a life-long member of Sylvania Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, James Howell; a son, Rick Howell and his wife Patty of Amarillo, Texas; twin daughters, Gloria Rand and her husband John of Maumelle and Linda Peterson and her husband Jimmy of North Little Rock; three grandchildren, Kimberly Howell and her fiancé Taylor Mobley of Dallas, Jason Peterson and his fiancée Denise George of North Little Rock and Jennifer York and her husband Mark of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Nina Lockard and Jennalea Howell of Sylvania and special friends, Bryan and Dorothy Shoemaker of Cabot.

Betty was a kind, caring person and a great cook who loved baking wonderful pies for her family and friends. She loved working in her many flower gardens and loved collecting her beloved tea pots. She will be greatly missed by so many who loved her.

Visitation began at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Westbrook Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Jordan officiating. Burial followed in Sylvania Cemetery.

Memorial may be made to Sylvania Presbyterian Church, 2419 Hwy 321 N, Ward, AR 72176.

Jerry K. Connolly

Jerry K. “Jug” Connolly, 70, of Carlisle, ddied April 15, 2004. He was a member of Hamilton Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a farmer and worked for Champaign Landmark.

Survivors include his wife Nellia Nelson Connolly, a son, Jerry K. Connolly, Jr., and daughter, Tami Creviston of Ohio, stepsons, Steve Nelson of Carlisle and Mike Nelson of Kentucky, 16 grandchildren, sisters, Joan Hess, Jayne Kauffman, Janet Wallace and Joyce Bailey and brother, Jack Connolly all of Ohio.
Funeral services and burial were held in Urbana, Ohio. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

James E. Boswell

James Eugene (Gene) Boswell of Beebe, 53, died April 19, 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Boswell of Beebe and two sons, Scott Boswell of Tucson, Ariz., Steven Boswell of San Manuel, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; grandmother Beulah Tilley. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Beebe Cemetery.

C.B. “Smiley” Liles

C.B. “Smiley” Liles, of Lonoke, died April 18, 2004, at his home. He served as a Merchant Marine in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters in World War II, and he worked 42 years as a pipeline construction swing-hand, building pipelines all over the United States.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Frances (Eagle) Liles; one son, Thomas D. Liles and one daughter, Diann Arnold both of Austin; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Kever and Nelda Young both of Heber Springs.

Visitation is Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral is Thursday, April 22 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hicks Cemetery, Lonoke.

Bobby Joe Adams

Bobby Joe Adams, 58, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Adams; two children, Karen Sue Buckner of Austin and Terry Joe Adams of Ft. Campbell, KY, two granddaughters, Kelli Dawn Buckner of Austin, and Jacy Leigh Adams of Ft. Campbell, KY. Ten brothers and sisters: Sue Grady, Loyd Adams, Tom Adams, Jerry Adams, Bill Adams and Mike Adams all of Lonoke, Gladys Williams and Raymond Adams of Austin, Pat Glass of Little Rock and Barbara McFarland of Atoka, TN. And a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Lonoke Baptist Church, with interment at Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday 5-8 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke

Clarence Ridgeway

Clarence Ridgeway, 83, died April 18, 2004 in North Little Rock. He was preceded in death by parents, Millie Ridgeway and Nettie Phillips; 2 brothers, Lloyd Ridgeway and Paul Ridgeway. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty of Ward; son, Kenny and wife Barbara Ridgeway of Cabot; son, Larry Ridgeway of Ward; daughter Carla and husband Vince Miranda of Cabot; brother Kenneth Ridgeway of Ward; aunt Marie Jarvis, uncle, Avon Phillips, 5 grandchildren, Anthony Ridgeway, Karie Sutton, Amy Smith, Kwendra Ridgeway and Celina Miranda; 4 great-grandchildren, Hayden Sutton, Kayde Ridgeway, Tate Sutton and Luke Smith; several nieces and nephews.

Clarence was a member of First Baptist Church in Ward and was awarded a perfect 25 years attendance pin where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was a World War II veteran and served in the South Pacific with the Coast Guard. Clarence was retired from North Little Rock Ft. Roots Hospital and retired bus driver of Cabot Public Schools, and a member of the Cabot VFW. He was a past member of Ward Chamber of Commerce. Clarence served as alderman on the Ward City Council for several years.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Cabot Funeral Home. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ward with Brother Mike Fowler officiating. Arrangements made by Cabot Funeral Home, 700 N.Second, 843-5816.
