Mercer E. Bayliss

Mercer Embree “Flea” Bayliss, 85, of Warren, formerly of McGehee, died June 25, 2004.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of First Baptist Church of Warren and was a retired conductor for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad Co.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Ann Banister Bayliss; daughters, Cholista Price of Cabot, Babs Hardwick of Brinkley, Joy Moseley, Dermott and Kim Echlin of Star City; a brother, Garland Bayliss, College Station, Texas; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was June 28 at Griffin Chapel at McGehee. Burial was in McGehee Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren.

Ann Elizabeth Moore

Ann Elizabeth Moore, age 69, of Ward, died Thursday, July 1, 2004. She was a retired employee of Stone Container Company and a Baptist. She is survived by her husband, David Moore; one son, Paul Dodge of Memphis; two stepsons, David Moore, Jr. of Cabot and Mitchell Moore of North Carolina; two daughters, Mary Besancon of Jacksonville and Susan Richards of Clarksville; one stepdaughter, Debbie Moore of Fayetteville; two brothers, Charles Forte of Fifty-Six and Billy Forte of McRae; five grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with burial in Antioch Cemetery.

Alva Wilson Holt

Alva Wilson Holt, 78, died June 30, 2004.

Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Arrowood of Beebe and Pat Staley of Ward; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his brothers, Curtis Holt of Texas and Gary Holt of Beebe.

Graveside service was Saturday, July 3, 2004 at Lebanon Cemetery in McRae. Visitation was Friday at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

Emolene Burns

Emolene Burns, age 75, of Austin, died Sunday, July 4, 2004.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, McCoy (Son) Burns; four children, Ninette Drennan of El Paso, Becky Wisdom of Beebe, Ricky Burns of Des Arc, Dwayne Burns of Austin; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, H. A. Griffin of Austin and one sister, Dalene Flannery of Cabot.

Funeral service was Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Burial fallowed in Apple Hill Cemetery, Ward. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205 or Apple Hill Cemetery, c/o Ray Haymes, 106 North Hickory, Beebe, AR 72012.

Clint C.C. Moffitt, Jr.

Clint C. “C.C.” Moffitt, Jr., age 70, of Mayflower passed from this life to the next on Monday, July 5, 2004 at Conway Regional Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Moffitt was born in Brasfield, Ark. on April 23, 1934, a son to the late Clint C. Moffitt Sr., and Mary Scott Moffitt.

C.C. loved his family, the lake, fishing, reading, and history. He loved cooking fish for his family, building things in his workshop, and making his family laugh. He and his family lived in Cabot for many years before moving to Mayflower, where he was a member and trustee of the Mayflower Methodist Church.

Clint “Buddy” graduated from Brinkley High School in 1951, attended the University of Arkansas in Monticello, and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He served in dental service with the Air Force until 1974, when he retired from the military and began a civilian career with Patterson (Codesco) Dental Supply, where he worked for over 25 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Dean. He is also survived by a family who loved him including his daughter, Marty Hamric and husband, Donnie, of Cabot; two sons: Edward Moffitt and wife, Teri, of Greenbrier; and Scott Moffitt of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Jonathan and Tyler Hamric, Brooklyn Moffitt Madding, Drew and Victoria Moffitt; a sister, Mary Ann McCoy and her husband, Joe, of Little Rock; and his mother-in-law, Quilly Morgan, of Jacksonville; along with a host of friends and relatives.

Services for Mr. Moffitt will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2004 in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Grothe and Rev. Debbye Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Sixteenth Section Cemetery near Cabot. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mayflower Methodist Church building fund at 165 Jackson Ave., Mayflower, Ark., 72106.

Arrangements are by Griffin Leggett – Conway, 1751 Dave Ward Dr. Conway, Ark., 72034, 501-327-5000.

Charlene Duch

Charlene Duch, 64, of Hazen, died June 29, 2004.

She was a member of St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church of Slovak.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, David Duch of Hazen and Dwight Duch of Forrest City; four grandchildren; one sister, Betty Sue Long of Hazen and one brother, Wayne Hanks of Carlisle.

She was a beautician for many years in Hazen and then opened a Daycare Family Home in her home in Hazen.

Funeral services were July 1, at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Slovak.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Route 1 Box 117, Stuttgart, Ark. 72l60 or Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2222, Little Rock, Ark. 72203.

Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Gary Ray Bell

Gary Ray Bell, 46, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

He was an automotive and truck mechanic. He was a Baptist.

Survivors: sons - Timothy James Bell and Jody Bell; daughter, Trayce Bell - all of Hampton; parents, Ulys and Mary Bell of Cabot; brother, Ulys Bell, III; sisters - Elizabeth Irene Bell and Sandra Davidson, of Jacksonville.

Graveside service was Saturday, Higden McLehaney Cemetery. Arrangements : Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs.

James Clyde Martin

James Clyde Martin, age 100, of Searcy, died Thursday, July 1, 2004.
He was a well-known businessman and pioneer in the trucking and poultry industries in the Cleburne-Independence County area.

He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Martin Hamlett of Cabot; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorene Stuart of Heber Springs; two brothers - Cleston Martin of Concord and Clelan Martin of Maumelle.
Services were at Concord United Methodist Church, Saturday, with interment at Concord Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Christain Martin Lovendahl Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 9198, Searcy, Ark. 72145.

Rickie Dwayne Beard

Rickie Dwayne Beard, age 50, of Cabot and an employee of the City of Little Rock Public Works Department, died July 1, 2004.

He was a member of the Rixie Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicky Kyzer Beard of Cabot; son, Shawn Beard of Mayflower; daughter, Katrina Baker of Cabot; one granddaughter; four sisters, Doris E. Duncan of Cabot, Wanda L. Lackey and Bettie J. King of Norfork, and Deborah A. Hardman of Mountain Home; three brothers, Loy G. Beard, of Norfork, Ray D. Beard of Jacksonville, and David A. Beard of Cabot.
Funeral services were July 5, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel.

Carolyn Spring

Carolyn “Jeanette” Spring, 58, of Lonoke died Thursday, July 1, 2004.

Survivors include Samuel Edmondson of Lonoke; four daughters, Tasha Simpson and Sheila Dodson of Little rock; Tyronda Blackmon of Arkadelphia and Quandero Spring of Lonoke; three brothers, Calvin Spring of Kerr, Robert Spring of Tucker and Derrell Spring of Lonoke; one sister, Deborah Spring of Kerr; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8 at Mt. Sinai Christian Church, 522 N. Hickory in North Little Rock, with interment in Lonoke Cemetery. Services entrusted to Boyd Funeral Home.

Anthony D. Turner

Anthony Dixon Turner, age 30, of Austin, died July 2, 2004.

Survivors include his daughter, Faith Dawn Turner of Austin; father and step-mother, Roy and Kathy Turner of Moses Lake, WA; mother and step-father, Stephany and Chuck Hill of Austin; and sister, Kelly Goodspeed of Owego, NY.

Family requested private services. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service of Cabot (501) 941-7888.

Donna Scoggin

Donna Bell Scoggin, born July 29th, 1924 passed away June 26th at her daughter’s home in Maricopa, AZ. She was a flight nurse in the Navy during the post-WWII era and retired from the Veteran’s Hospital of Phoenix, Arizona where she had been a nursing supervisor.

Donna taught in the Cabot school system and was a nurse at a Jacksonville hospital.

She is survived by her three daughters: Donna Lee, Diane and Daphne; her four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
