John C. Leonard
John Carleton Leonard, of Tyro, died April 23, 2005.
He was a retired paint contractor.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Lowry Leonard; daughters, Jackie McGough of Tyro, Judy Calhoun of Star City, Jeri of Wells Bayou; four grandchildren; brothers, Ray Leonard of Tyro, and Jim Leonard of Cabot; sisters, Barbara Williams, and Martha Clark all of Dumas.

He was a member of Anderson Chapel Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held April 26 at Anderson Chapel Baptist church. Burial was at the Tyro Cemetery with Masonic Rites performed.

Memorial donations can be made to the Shrine Cripple Children’s Hospital, Anderson Chapel Baptist Church or the Tyro Cemetery Association.

Emily Carson-Curry
Emily Grace Carson-Curry, infant daughter of Stephanie Carson and John Curry of Cabot, died April 19, 2005.

She is survived by her parents, two brothers, grandparents and great-grandparents.

A graveside service was held April 23 at King Cemetery.

Hazel E. Howard
Hazel Elizabeth Howard, 91, of Jacksonville, died April 23, 2005. She was born in Lonoke. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

She is survived by four children Peggy Wright of Jacksonville, Rita Holland of Alexander, Bill Howard of Jacksonville, and Carolyn Rooks of Fishers, IN; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sister, Rachel Gresham of Little Rock.
Funeral services were held April 26, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.

William H. Hughes
William H. “Billy” Hughes, 43, of Little Rock, died April 15, 2005.
He was a clerk for Zimmerman’s Sport Center.

He is survived by his stepfather, J.C. Chaney of Jacksonville; brothers, James Lee of Cabot, Jerry Chaney of Little Rock and Robert Chaney of Jacksonville; sisters, Donna Suitforth of Cabot and Tammy Johnson of Scott.

Graveside service was April 18 at Ivy Chapel Cemetery.

Glenn Willard Smith
Glenn “Smitty” Willard Smith, 70, of Jacksonville, died April 20, 2005.
He served his country in the National Guard, U.S. Army and finally retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired owner, operator and truck driver for Cal-Ark Trucking.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Doris Smith; son, Mark Edward Smith of Jacksonville; and one grandson.

Graveside services were April 25, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.

Jean Leslie Bissell
Jean Leslie Bissell, 80, of Cabot, died April 25, 2005. She attended school in Little Rock, North Litle Rock and Draughan’s Business School. She was a Baptist.

She is survived by four sons and one daughter: Robert of Chester, Conn., Rick of Guilford, Conn., Eugene of Walkerton, Ind., Michael of Bowling Green, Ky., Kethleen of Jacksonville; and one adopted son, Dan; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Thursday, April 28, in Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. She will be cremated. Memorials may be made to Aplastic Anemia Foundation.

Ralph Allen Hanner
Ralph Allen Hanner, age 51, of McRae, died April 24, 2005 in Searcy.
Survivors include three sisters: Jo Staley of Austin, Hazel Thomas of Beebe, Linda Britton of McRae; one brother Butch Hanner of McRae.
Memorial services 4 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Thomas Funeral Service, 713 South Second St., Cabot, AR.

R. Dean Riggs

R. Dean Riggs departed this world May 2, 2004 at the age of 59. born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on June 19, 1944, he moved to Locust Bayou, Arkansas in 1983 and then to Scott, Arkansas in 1995. Dean was a member of the Palm Street Church of Christ for many years and was a former employee of Deluxe Media Services in North Little Rock. On April 16, 1992, he was the recipient of a Heart Transplant.

Survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara; children: Bill Riggs, David Alexander, Toni Lythgoe and Michelle Cross; brother, Gene Riggs; eight grandchildren; mothers-in-law, Jean Burton and Eleanor Burton; relatives: Jeff, Jennifer, Laura and Sarah Hoag, Bruce, Terri and Heather Gillanders, and many other family members. Words cannot express the support of all our friends, Christian brothers and sisters, all the doctors and medical staff who have given Dean loving care throughout the years. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday at Palm Street Church of Christ, by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8.

William D. Chambers

Retired MSgt. William Derel Chambers, U.S.M.C., 76, of Cabot, died April 30, 2004.
Survivors include two daughters: Juanita Owens of Mt. Vernon and Laurie of North Little Rock; one son, William P.A. Chambers of Altamont, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother John Chambers of Cabot.
Visitation was Sunday, May 2, 2004 at the funeral home. A graveside service with military honors was held on Monday, May 3, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot with Bro. Joe Hall officiating. Memorials my be made to American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, Cabot.

Von B. Williamson

Von B. Williamson, a 1976 graduate of Cabot High School, died April 26 near Moab, Utah, while doing training exercises with other law enforcement officers. Von was active in ROTC at Cabot High.

His parents, Bob and Donna Williamson, of Hurst, Texas, survive him. He and his wife in 1981 moved to Cache County, Utah and was living in Wellsville, Utah at the time of his death. He joined the Cache County Utah Sheriff’s Department in 1981 and was a Lieutenant with that department.

He leaves behind his wife, Diane, son Jeremy, daughters Amanda, Megan, Sarah and Jessica. He was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a 2-year mission to the Palmayra, New York Mission after graduating from Cabot High. Others survivors: a sister, LeeAnn Buell, Leawood, Kan., bothers, Robert L. Williamson, Cumby, Texas, Ronald V. Williamson, Bedford, Texas.

Funeral was held in the Wellsville Stake Center, in Wellsville, Utah on April 30,2004.

Mattie L. McKenzie

Mattie L. McKenzie, of Lonoke, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at St. Vincent Infirmary Little Rock She is survived by 13 nieces, six nephews.
Visitation was Saturday, May 1 at St James United Methodist Church, Lonoke. Funeral services followed with burial at Sunset Memorial Garden by Boyd Funeral Home.

H. Marchelle Thebeau

H. Marchelle Kirk Thebeau, 39, of Ward died Friday, April 16, 2004.
She was a member of Sylvania Presbyterian Church. Marchelle was a loving wife to Mark Thebeau, a close and dear sister to Doug Kirk Jr. and Jeannette Boyles, both of Ward; a wonderful daughter to Doug Kirk Sr. and Faye Kirk of Ward; a special aunt to Brittany and her other nieces and nephews, and a precious granddaughter to her grandmothers, Gladys Marshall and Christine Sharp.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Bill Marshall and Clyde Kirk. She was very unselfish and always thought of others first. She was a very caring person and will be missed by all.

Funeral was at 10 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2004, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Slyvania Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Tommy Jordan. Burial was in Sylvania Cemetery.

Madeline L. Osborne

Madeline Lea Kennedy Osborne, 82, of Bald Knob died Saturday, May 1, 2004.
She was retired from Arkansas General Industries and a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are a son, Otis Osborne of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Paula Hampton of Cabot, and Della Wallace of Destin, Fla.; a brother, Charles Kennedy of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, North Little Rock.

George York

George “Buddy” York, 68, of North Little Rock died Thursday, April 29, 2004.
He was vice president of Neighbors United for Levy, Legislative Aide for the State of Arkansas, a member of Lions Club and RSVP Program of Central Arkansas. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Amy Smith York; son, Greg York, both of North Little Rock; three daughters, Vicky Pilkington, of Cabot, Cheryl Doggett, of Conway and Debi Branscum, of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leo, Joe, Glen and Elmer York; two sisters, Christine Green and Ellen Crowder.

Funeral service was Monday at North Little Rock Home Chapel. Burial was at Mayflower Cemetery.
