Jennie M. Childress

Jennie Mae Childress, age 84, of Lonoke, died Thursday, April 29, 2004.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church most of her life and currently a member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Ida.

She is survived by one son, Jim Childress of Lonoke; one daughter, Juanita Hayes of Story; one brother, John Pearson of Lonoke; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Sunday, May 2, 2004, at New Hope Baptist Church, Carlisle, with burial in New Hope Cemetery.

Billy Joe Orton

Billy Joe Orton, age 41, of Carlisle died April 24, 2004, in Taji, Iraq.

He was a Supply Sergeant for the Arkansas National Guard assigned to HHC (-) 39th Support Battalion, 39th Infantry Brigade in Hazen, Ark. Billy Joe joined the service in November of 1981 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in February, 1995. He was ordered to active duty for “Iraqi Freedom” on Oct. 12, 2003, with the 39th Infantry Brigade in Arkansas. Billy Joe served in Alaska from August 1991 to February, 1992; Panama from November 1993 to November 1996; Egypt from October 2001 to August 2002, and Iraq from October 2003 until April 24, 2004.

Billy Joe was preceded in death by his father, Troy Orton; brother-in-law, Bryant Weatherley, and brother-in-law, Manaser Davidian.

He is survived by his wife, Margarita Davidian Orton; three children, Manaser, David and Benjamin Orton of the home; his mother, Dorothy Orton and Steve Amo of Hazen; one brother, Leo Orton, wife, Cindy, and children Miranda and Tyler of Carlisle; two sisters, Barbara Weatherley and Michael DePriest and children, Troy, Stacy, and Chris of Hazen and Linda Strohl, husband, Rickey, and children, Matthew and Lucas of Hazen; mother-in-law, Fideligna Sanchez and Ronald Aguinaga of Panama City, Panama; father-in-law, Genun Davidian of Iran; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Lars Aspegren of Carlisle.

Funeral services were May 2, 2004, at the Hazen National Guard Armory. Interment was in the Hazen Cemetery. Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen was in charge.

Mabel L. Jones

Mabel L. Jones, age 82, of Jacksonville died April 27, 2004.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons - Wallace Raymond of Texas, Steve Jones of New Orleans, La., Emmett Jones of Cabot, David Jones of Jacksonville; one daughter, Eleanor Spencer of Hot Springs; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were April 30, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Burial was in Halk Cemetery in Wynne.

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Mabel Reaves

Mabel (Johnson) Reaves, 85, Carlisle, died April 25, 2004.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Survived by 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

Service was Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Carlisle. Services entrusted to Robinson Mortuary.

Wayne Harrell

Wayne Harrell, 56, of North Little Rock died Friday, April 30, 2004.
He was retired from McKay Heat & Air Co. and was a Vietnam Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Harrell; one son, Billy Wayne Harrell, both of North Little Rock; two daughters, Christy Walker of Cabot and Misty Seavers of North Little Rock; his mother, Hazel Harrell; one brother, Roger Harrell, both of North Little Rock; two sisters, Sharon Collins and Brenda Collins, both of Arkadelphia; seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Harmony Cemetery.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Harmony Baptist Church. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery. North Little Rock Funeral Home was in charge.

Jewell Ann Duck

Jewell Ann Branch Duck of Sheridan died Friday.

Survivors: sons, Jimmy and Oscar Duck of Pine Bluff, Danny and Gary Duck of Sheridan; daughters, Geneva Gray and Brenda Hale of White Hall, Sandra Holland and Donna Duck of Sheridan; brothers, Owen Branch of Wooster, Doyne Branch of Cabot; sisters: Lois Whitaker of Lonoke, Betty Priest of Conway; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Graveside: Monday, Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan.

James ‘Buck’ Collins

James “Buck” Collins, 69, of Wrightsville, died April 30, 2004.
He was a retired roofer and welder.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Collins, one son, James Lyle Collins of Wrightsville; two stepsons, Jimmy Gill of Wrightsville and Tony Mathews of Fayetteville; five daughters, Angela Wheetley of Cabot, Tammy McGhee of Sherwood, Alesia Wilhite of Benton, Bridgette Tucker of Benton and Christie McCool of Little Rock; one stepdaughter, Tena Hancock of Wrightsville; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jimmy Collins of Mayflower, Ernie Collins of Fort Smith, Ervin Collins of Conway and Robert Collins of Bryant; two sisters, Gene Holland of Little Rock and Shirley Sisco of Fort Smith; three stepbrothers and one stepsister and stepmother, Mae Collins.

Funeral services were Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Ivy Chapel Cemetery, Little Rock.

Horace Lee Wilson

Horace L. Wilson, 86, of Chesterfield Township, Mich., died May 3, 2004.
He was the widower of Anita Louise McGarity Wilson of Lonoke, and retired superintendent at Chrysler Corporation. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Survivors are sons, Jerry Wilson of Chesterfield township and Daniel Wilson of Clarkston; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Corinne Bain of Alexandria, La., and Francis Corelle Reeves of Tavares, Fla.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m., May 6, in the Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, Mt. Clemens, Mich., with burial in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry Ford Hospice.

Valley N. Burrow
Valley Nadine Burrow passed away May 9, 2005 at her home. She was born in Vilonia on November 2, 1926. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dempsey Burrow of Lonoke; two sons, Jimmy (Janie) Burrow of Pittsburg, Kansas and William (Cathy) Burrow of Lonoke. 4 Grandchildren, Brian, Brandy, Blake of Lonoke, and Lee of Kansas and 4 great-grandchildren. Other survivors are sisters Gladys Sullivan of Lonoke, Lucille Smith of Beebe and one brother Gene Stivers of Greenbrier. Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Boyd Chapel, Lonoke, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family received friends from 6-8 pm at the funeral home on Tuesday. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Steve G. Cross
Steve G. Cross, 75, of Robinsonville, Miss., died Monday, May 2, 2005. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 after 26 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 243 in Bessemer City, N.C. and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by one son, Steve Roland Cross of Robinsonville, MS and one daughter, Pamela R. Levering of Eureka Springs; one brother, Miles Raymond “Bill” Cross of Alamogordo, NM and one sister, Kathleen (Toonkie) Burgin of S.C; three grandchildre.n; three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was May 5 at Glover Cemetery in Lonoke. Arrangements are by Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.

Lloyd R. Burgess
Lloyd Richard “Buddy” Burgess, age 81, died in Austin, May 3, 2005. Buddy was a retired carpenter and a member, deacon and song leader of the Campground Union Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda Bell Dedmon Burgess of 55 years and five sons, Charles Beasley of Ward, Berry Burgess of Bigelow, Randy Burgess of Cabot, Bobby Burgess of Austin and Kelly Burgess of Austin; one daughter Melinda Cole Cole of Ward; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers Earl Burgess and Robert “Sonny” Burgess both of Cabot; and three sisters, Louise Skinner and Pat Dodd both of Cabot and Marcie Watson of Benton.

Visitation was Wednesday, May 4, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot. Funeral Services were officiated by Reverend Ron Cody at Campground Union Church on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. with burial immediately following at Hicks Cemetery in the Sandhill Community. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.

Raymond Arthur Pool
Raymond Arthur Pool, 87, of North Little Rock, died Sunday. He was born in the Sixteenth Section Community. He worked in the parts and supply department for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad for over 40 years. He was also in the Civilian Conservation Corp and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rose City.

Survivors include one daughter, Murielene Campbell of North Little Rock; one sister Ruby Mae Marshall of Walls, MS and one brother Hubert Lee Pool of Little Rock; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Singh officiating. Burial followed in Sixteenth Section Cemetery.

Dr. Wesley L. Pool
Dr. Wesley Lawrence Pool, 81, of Sherwood, died May 2, 2005.
He was in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He retired after 30 years as a dentist. He was a Methodist.

He is survived by sons, Thomas Pool of Little Rock, and James Pool of Sherwood; daughters, Mary Pool of Los Angeles, CA, Diana White of Sherwood, Laura Gott of North Little Rock, and Leslie Henderson of Ward; brother, Eugene Pool of Dallas, TX; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 5, at Huson Funeral Home Chapel in Sherwood.

Interment was in the Little Rock National Cemetery.
