Billy Bob Hobbs

Billy Bob Hobbs, 76, of Pine Bluff, died Jan. 5, 2006. He was a master carpenter, a foreman, a construction superintendent, a bail bondsman. He also helped several generations of youth in coaching and supporting Little League Baseball

He is survived by his children, William Carey Hobbs of Cabot, and Deborah Hobbs Kell of Pine Bluff; and four grandchildren; and brother, Caldwell Hobbs of Pine Bluff.

Funeral services were held Jan. 10 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements were by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.

Frances L. Morrison

Frances Louise Morrison, 65, of Alexander, died Jan. 5, 2006. She was employed at Baptist Medical Center for 20 years as a RN, who cared for teenagers with Psychological and Emotional problems.

Survivors include her sons, Paul Eric Morrison, Owen Clay Morrison, and Rick Clowers, all of Alexander; brother, Bob Jenkins of Texas; sisters, Della Gould of Alexander, DeEtta Buckelew of Benton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Lee Cemetery.

Josephine Redd

Josephine Redd, 85, of Mayflower, died Jan. 6, 2006.
She is survived by her son, Sam Bates of Mayflower; daughter, Jeanette Pounders of Cabot; sisters, Laverne Carnihan of Little Rock and Vidalee Taylor of Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Jack Stroud of Monroe, LA; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life was held Jan. 9 at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Clark

Elizabeth Guess Clark, 99, of Little Rock, died Jan. 8, 2006.
Survivors include her sisters, Edith Bell and Louise Leonard.

She was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association and the University of Arkansas Agriculture Service at Lonoke County.

Graveside services were held Jan. 10 at Lakeside Cemetery in Des Arc by Garth Funeral Home.

Johnnie Edmondson

Johnnie Sue Edmondson, 38, of Jacksonville, died Jan. 9, 2006.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Gwen and Mike Turpin of Jacksonville; her brother Greg Edmondson of Cabot; maternal grandmother, Ruby Sullivan; and paternal grandmother, Louise Edmondson.

There will be a graveside service held at 2 p.m. Wed., Jan. 11, at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville with her uncle, Dr. Ted Edmondson, officiating. Memorials may be given to Arkansas Hospice.

Helen V. Carter

Helen Virginia (Bernier) Carter, 88, of Cabot died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at her home. She was a member of Saint Jude’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
Helen is survived by her three children: Connie Hanson of Ridgway, Colo., George Carter of Ouray, Colo. and Caroline Carter of Cabot. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service in honor of Helen Carter will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 in the Chapel of Cabot Funeral Home.

Olen Lee Johnson

Olen Lee ‘Muscles’ Johnson, 71, passed away January 13, 2006 at his home. Preceding him in death was his wife, Shirley Walters Johnson: parents, Birt and Lucy Smith Johnson; brother, Wyndle Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Cook Johnson; children, Yvonne (Eddie) Gates of Carlisle, Jackie Johnson of Hazen and Michael (Glenda) Cook, Sr. of Carlisle; sister, Laura May Johnson of Houston, TX; grandchild, Don Gates of Carlisle, and 6 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 9 nephews and 6 nieces, and a host of friends.

Service was 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Carlisle Pentecostal Church of God, with interment at Hamilton Cemetery. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

Emmett L. Whitaker

Rev. Emmett Lane Whitaker, of Las Cruces, N.M., died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006 at the age of 100 years, 4 months, and 2 days. He lived in Cabot from 1975 to 1995, and served during that time as minister of encouragement at Cabot First Baptist Church.

Brother Emmett was a pastor for 85 years and had said he would like to be remembered as “a printer, preacher and patriot.” A member of Cabot Kiwanis Club for many years, he had served as the club’s president, and as lieutenant governor of the Arkansas/Missouri District. He was a member of the Texas State Legislature at the age of 21.

His wife, Della Lee Whitaker preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Daniel of Seattle, Wash., Dennis of Auburn, Ala., and Don of Cabot; one daughter, Donella Lowery of Dalton, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; a brother, Dan Moody Whitaker of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Ola Mae Hawkins of Bossier City, La.

Funeral service and interment were Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 at Las Cruces, at his request. He had stated he would like to be able to “see the mountains and feel the wind.”

Brother Emmett’s family requests that memorials be made to projects of the Kiwanis Club.

Rev. D.C. Griffin

Rev. D.C. Griffin, 83, of Austin died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 at Rebsamen Hospital in Jacksonville. He was a retired Southern Baptist minister. A graduate of Clear Creek Bible College in Kentucky, he had served as pastor of several churches, including Brownsville Baptist Church, Cabot Second Baptist Church and South Bend Baptist Church in Lonoke County. He is a World War II veteran of both the Army and Navy.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Margaret Thompson Griffin of the home; a son, Ricky Griffin of Ward, a daughter, Vickie Griffin Joslin of Austin; a brother, Paul Griffin of California; two grandsons; and a granddaughter of Ward.

The family received friends Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 13, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Austin Station Baptist Church with Reverend Otto Brown officiating. Burial was in Sixteenth Section Cemetery by Cabot Funeral Home.

Oliver Howard, Jr.

Oliver Howard, Jr., 77, of Bryant, died Jan. 13, 2006. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bryant and was a retired optician from Bausch and Lomb Optical with 29 years of service. He was also an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florene McGough Howard of Bryant; a son David Howard of Cabot; daughter Vicki Westbrook of Bryant; brothers, Allen Howard of Grand Prairie, TX, and James Howard of Belcher, LA; sister, Jewell Graves of Norman; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 16 at First Baptist Church of Bryant. Burial was at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Alexander by Ashby Funeral Home.

Sharon Jones

Sharon Jones, 62, of Lonoke, died Jan. 9, 2006.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Emmett Jones; 11 siblings; children, Cheri Courtright, Sandra Prentice, and Randy Jones; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 13 at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

John Whiney Rollins

John Whiney Rollins age 72 of Vivian, LA, native of Hickory Plains died Jan. 15, 2006. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Jan. 19, 2006 at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Interment will follow in the Hester Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Patty H. Rollins; two daughters, Donna Butler and Tammy Lloyd, both of Shreveport, LA; one son, Chris Rollins of Bossier City, LA; four sisters, Helen Hale and Sally Walker, of Brinkley, Trudy Walters, and Judy Pettit of DeWitt; one brother, Jimmy Rollins of Biscoe; seven grandchildren, and one great grandson.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Erma Elmore

Erma Elmore, 69 of Forrest City died Jan. 11, 2006. Survivors include her mother, Mary K. Elmore; one sister, Karen Poole, a brother, L.H. Elmore, all of Lonoke.

Graveside services were Friday, Jan. 13 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cabot, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Alta R. Wallis

Alta R. Wallis, 86, of McCrory, died Jan. 13, 2006.
Survivors include her daughter, Winnia Cain, Beebe; two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 15 at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in McCrory. Interment was in the Fakes Cemetery.
