Annie V. Burlison

Annie Verneal Burlison, age 84, died Jan. 18, 2006. She was a long time active member of Lonoke Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Charlotte Ballew of Mayflower, Beverly Rhoden of Kansas, Sherri Flynt of Little Rock and Patti Fitz of North Carolina; one son, Mike Burlison of Lonoke; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great -grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 21 at Lonoke Baptist Church with interment in Hebron Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Lonoke Baptist Church.

Gladys Garvin

Gladys Garvin, 93, of North Little Rock, died Jan. 19, 2006. She was retired from the North Little Rock School District in food service and a member of First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock.

She is survived by her son Harold Garvin, of Sherwood; daughter Barbara Slavens, of Evanston, WY; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72204.

Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Sumner Cemetery in Cabot.

James Donald Bell

James Donald Bell, 47, of Lonoke, died Jan. 14, 2006.
Survivors include his daughters, Holly Quinton and Jamie Sue Jones; mother, Mary Bell; sisters, Carolyn Coker and Virginia Bell; brother, Kenneth Bell; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements were entrusted to Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Evan Clay Stone

Evan Clay Stone, infant son of Jason Stone and Andrea Wolff, died Jan. 21, 2006.

He is survived by his parents; brother, Kaleb; sisters, Madisen and Stephanie; grandparents, Shirley Stone of Hensley, Billy Stone of Mabelvale, and Angela and Victor Wheetley of Cabot.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wed., Jan. 25, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Tidball officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverwood Memorial Gardens.

Hazel Huff Raborn

Hazel Huff Raborn, age 76, of Carlisle, passed away January 21, 2006, at the England Manor Nursing Home. She was a CRA, ministering to the prisoners in the Arkansas Prison System. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Katherine Huff; her husband, Dale Raborn; sister, Maylene Myrick; and a brother, Wilbur Huff. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Koenig and Randa Faye; one son, H.H. (Skip) Raborn; sister, Margaret Scherm; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Carlisle First United Methodist Church with interment in the Old Carlisle Cemetery. Pallbearers were Will Love, Mike Raborn, Scott Raborn, Danny Raborn, Nathan Faye and Andy Faye.

Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Helen Carter

Helen Bernier Carter, 89, of Cabot, died Jan. 15, 2006.
She graduated from Hope High School in 1936 and married George F. Carter in 1940.

She is survived by her daughters, Caroline Carter of Cabot, and Connie Hanson of Ridgway, Colo.; son, George F. Carter Jr. of Ouray, Colo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Jan. 21, at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home Chapel in Cabot.

John Calvin Dillard

John Calvin Dillard, 81, of Mayflower, died Jan. 18, 2006.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a home builder.
He is survived by his brothers, Raymond, William, and Paul Dillard all of Cabot, and Arnold and Jimmy Dillard both of California; sisters, Reba O’Dell of Roland, and Arlene Benson of North Carolina.

Graveside services were held Jan. 20 at Sumner Cemetery with John H. Watt, Jr. officiating from the Church at Pinnacle Mountain in West Little Rock.
Arrangements were by Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.
Memorials to the American Heart Association.

Jewel Ann Hood

Jewel Ann Hood, 83, of Lonoke, died Jan. 19, 2006.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years and 19 days, Waitus Hood; sons, Jackie Wade Hood and Robert Dale Hood both of Cabot, and Jerry Dee Hood of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Donna Hood Smith of San Diego, CA; brothers, William Ray Cook of Oklahoma City, OK, and J.D. Cook of Murfreesboro, TN; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Ark., 72204 or Alzheimer’s Arkansas 10411 W. Markham, Suite 130, Little Rock, Ark., 72205.

Montford W. Nelson

Montford W. “Shorty” Nelson, 80, of Little Rock, died Jan. 22, 2006. He began working for the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Arkansas at the age of 18 and was there for 46 years, retiring in 1992 as a Lead Line Mechanic. He was a Deacon for the Arch Street Church of Christ and then later was an Elder for the 65th Street Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen I. Nelson of Little Rock; sons, Michael W. Nelson of Cabot, David G. Nelson of Bradenton, FL, and Mark G. Nelson of Gainesville, FL; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one step-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wed., Jan. 25, at the Roller-Drummond Chapel, with Bro. Louis Sharp, officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Crest Memorial Park, 7401 Hwy. 5, Alexander.

Larry Eugene Zerbe

Larry Eugene Zerbe, 64, of England, died Jan. 22, 2006. He was a former scoutmaster, little league coach, and school board member.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Zerbe of England; daughter, Angela Sue Chaney of Greenbrier; sons, Kevin Eugene Zerbe of San Ramon, CA, Timothy Larry Zerbe of Custer, SD, and Rodney Neal Zerbe of Cabot; brother, Dennis Zerbe of Pennsylvania; sister, Suzanne Crawford of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wed., Jan. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roller-England Funeral Home. Services will be held Thurs., Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at Roller-England Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Union Valley Cemetery.

Mattie Turnage

Mattie Turnage, 95, of Griffithville died Fri., Jan. 20, 2006.
Survivors include her sons, John Turnage of St. Charles, MO, and Charles Turnage of Lonoke; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 23 at Judson Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Welcome Home Cemetery by Garth Funeral Home.

Oswell Lewis Shull

Oswell Lewis Shull, age 90, of Lonoke, passed away January 23 with his family present. He was born in Des Arc, Arkansas, July 29, 1915, to Oscar Shull and Lois Brundridge Shull. Oswell was a graduate of Lonoke High School in 1932 before attending the University of Arkansas, to pursue a degree in accounting. He was also selected to be a member of Kappa Sigma. He attended Duke Universities Finance school and graduated as a first lieutenant in the Army.

He served three years as a financial officer in New Orleans during World War Two, and remained in the Army reserves thereafter. His service was requested once again and he was sent to Greenland during the Korean War with the Navy to build Fort Blue Jay. He was later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel for his service to the Country.

Oswell worked at Farmland Industries in accounting for many years and retired in 1981. In 1999 he moved from Fort Smith to his boyhood home, Lonoke, to take care of the family farms.

Oswell will be remembered for his kind and generous attitude he showed toward his family and the love that surrounded him everywhere he went.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Louise Demby Shull; daughter Ann Shull Bell; beloved grandson Nelson Bell; and his brother Richard Shull. He will be missed by his four pets; Cocoa, Roland, Ticklebell, and Eula.

Oswell is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Harold B. Shull and Rex B. Shull, and his sister Mary R. Henderson.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his Hospice caregiver, Denise Diaz. The memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lonoke. The family greeted friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to Hospice Home Care or the First Presbyterian Church of Lonoke. Arrangements were under the direction of Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.
