Edford Lee Wheeler

Edford Lee “Buddy” Wheeler, 63, of North Little Rock, died March 12, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Wheeler of Greers Ferry; son, Steven Wheeler of North Little Rock; one granddaughter; sisters, Katherine Huffmaster of Sherwood, Jean McMoran of North Little Rock and Allene Bridges of Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to the Turpentine Creek Refuge in Eureka Springs. A memorial service was held March 21 at the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel.

Charlotte Chambers

Charlotte Lambert Chambers, beloved wife of Henry and only child of C.C. and Ruby Lambert, joined them in heaven on March 18, 2006. She was born March 5, 1938 in Carlisle, Arkansas. Charlotte fought a courageous and dignified twelve year battle with leukemia.

Her survivors are Steven and Bridgette Chambers and grandsons, Joseph and Drew of Carlisle, and Jo Ellen and Rick Link and granddaughters, Katie and Hannah of Plano, Texas. Charlotte was cherished by her extended family friends, Kathy Millard and Beverly Russom Clary, who brought her such joy.

The family would like to thank her incomparable friends, along with Dr. Anthony Bucolo and the amazing caregivers in the Springhill Baptist system for their gift of compassion and love during this long illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Trinity Chapel Building Fund, P.O. Box 597, Carlisle, AR 72024.

Private burial was held Monday morning, March 20, 2005 at the Carlisle Cemetery. A memorial service was held following the burial at First United Methodist Church in Carlisle. Visitation with the family followed at the Family Life Center immediately following the service. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Thomas J. Long

Thomas Joseph Long, 48, of Leesville, La., died Sunday, March 12, 2006. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army until retiring in 1996. He was employed 6 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

He is survived by his wife, Chong S. Long of Leesville; two children, Catherine Long of Leesville, Kevin Long of Houston, Texas; mother, Joan Long of Jacksonville; granddaughter, Catarina Harley of Leesville; five brothers and sisters, Pat Long of Benton, Diane Laurent of Jacksonville, Linda Ferrell of San Antonio, Texas, Carol Long and Doug Long, both of Jacksonville.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2006 at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot.

The family suggests memorials be made to Shriner’s Hospital in Shreveport, La.

Ervin E. Spears

Ervin E. Spears, 83, of Lonoke, died March 17, 2006. He was a member of Steel Bridge Baptist Church in Lonoke. He was a Mason for 50 years and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lexie Spears; sisters, Lucille Breshears of Hot Springs and Hazel Donahue of Stockton, CA; daughters, Linda Moore of North Little Rock and Martha Dunigan of Lexa; sons, Ervin Spears Jr. of Little Rock, and Samuel Spears of Loogootee, IN; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 21 at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke with interment in Lonoke Cemetery.

Andy Dedmon

Andy Dedmon, age 57, of Beebe, Arkansas, died April 2, 2006. He had worked for the City of Cabot for twenty-four years. Mr. Dedmon is survived by his wife, Darla Dedmon; son, Shane Dedmon of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters, Rachel Dedmon of Ward, Arkansas and Nichole Dedmon of Beebe; stepson, Tommy (Lisa) Boyce of Beebe; two stepdaughters, Angela Lentz and Sandra (Jay) Martin, all of Beebe; five grandchildren; and one brother, Wendall Dedmon of Cabot; three sisters, Martha Osgood of Iowa, Rhoda Burgess and Anna White, both of Cabot.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Sumner Cemetery.

Maurice Woodruff

Maurice Shannon “Woody” Woodruff, 77, of Hot Springs passed away on Monday, March 27, 2006.

Woody had a great work ethic which began as a child picking cotton alongside his six siblings on a farm in Needs Creek (Faulkner County), Arkansas. He grew up worshipping with his family in the Baptist church where he became a Christian. His faith impacted his life from that point on.

After college and military service, he married Jane Norman Gillum of Conway, his wife of 55 years. They began their life together in Carlisle, Arkansas, serving as high school teachers. During those years, Woody also served as a football coach, influencing the lives of many young men, some of whom became life-long friends.
Through a mentor, Cleddie Harper, Woody entered banking and later became President and Chairman of the Board of Citizens Bank and Trust of Carlisle, a platform he used to serve as a leader in his profession. While serving on the State Banking Board, he was a strong advocate for community banking. He also served the community of Carlisle as a member of the Lions Club, deacon of First Baptist Church and school board member.

Woody was a loving and devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; children, Connie Phillips (Jim) and Keith Woodruff (Robin) of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Jim, Brad, Sarah and Greg Phillips and Robert, Mary and Tanner Woodruff; a sister, Violet Holman of Anniston, Alabama; a brother, Gene Woodruff of Camano Island, Washington.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care given to Woody by the 4th floor staff of Little Rock Healthcare and Rehab.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home, 155 Section Line Road, Hot Springs, with Pastor John McCallum officiating. Interment followed in New Hollywood Cemetery in Hot Springs.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, Hot Springs.
Arrangements were by Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Charles L. Persons

Charles Leon Persons, 75, of Humphrey, died March 28, 2006.
He was co-owner of Persons Brothers Home Builders for 20 years and worked for Riceland Builders for 11 years, was a farmer and was a member of Humnoke Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Holly Mathews Persons; son, Larry Persons of Carlisle; daughter, Cathy Barrett of Pine Bluff; nine grandchildren; brothers, Billy Persons of Stuttgart, Donald Persons of Pine Bluff and Gerald Persons, Humphrey; and sister, Marnell Houghton of Humphrey.

Funeral services were held March 30 at Humnoke Pentecostal Church of God.
Burial followed in the Williams Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Memorials be made to Humnoke Pentecostal Church of God.

Abe Harris Moore

Abe Harris Moore, 63, died March 27, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Franks Moore of the home; sons, Michael and Douglas Moore; daughter, Jennifer Moore, all of Boston, MA; sister, Mary Rodelle of Jacksonville; stepson, Michael Frank of Cabot; stepdaughter, Rebecca Lynn Fortune of Jacksonville; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home.

Ruby Lois Stewart

Ruby Lois Stewart, 78, of Lonoke, died March 27, 2006.
She was a member of Steel Bridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Stewart; sons, Thomas W. Stewart of Hot Springs and Don Stewart of Lonoke; sisters, Clara Cole of Lonoke, Lucille Summar of Batesville and Marilyn Floyd of Cabot; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held March 30 at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Steel Bridge Church or Arkansas Hospice. Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home.

Lenar Lefue

Lenar Lefue, 90, Little Rock, died March 27, 2006.
Survivors include her sisters, Ruth Scales, Octavia Brown of Carlisle, and Mable Morris of St. Louis, MO.

Funeral services were held March 31 at First Baptist, Highland Park. Services entrusted to Robinson Mortuary in Little Rock.

Linda Sue Sterling

Linda Sue Sterling, 55, of Augusta, died March 28, 2006. She attended Faith Temple of Patterson.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Sterling; sons, Bobby of Center Ridge, Earl of Bald Knob, and Michael of Carlisle; brothers, Owen Hampton, of Sugartown, LA, Leroy Hampton, of Star City, Doyle Hampton of West Sardis, and Jerry Hampton of Pine Bluff; sisters, Marie LuJune of Houston, TX, Ethel Hooper of Benton, TX, and Ellen Parker of Cabot; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sat., April 1, at Hamilton Cemetery in Carlisle with Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.

Ken Edwin Frazier

Ken Edwin Frazier, 45, of Austin, died March 28, 2006. He was a Christian and attended the Sixteenth Section United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his parents Loyce and Geral Dean Fortner Frazier; sisters, Patsy Weidanz of Fairfield Bay, and Debbie Chambers of Jacksonville.

Funeral services were held March 30 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Conway with burial in Sixteenth Section Cemetery in Austin.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.

Delmer Lee Corbin

Delmer Lee Corbin, 76, of Cabot, died March 28, 2006. She was a homemaker and a member of Bible Missionary Church in Cabot.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Brown of Cabot, Lydia Mills of Kensett, and Paula Jones-McFadden of Cabot; sister, Ruby Mickle of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were Fri., March 31, at the Bible Missionary Church in Cabot with the Reverends Ed Manis and Andy Buege officiating. Burial was in Wattensaw Cemetery by Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.
