Guy B. Winkler, Jr.

Guy Benjamin Winkler, Jr., 53, of Des Arc died May 21, 2006.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Berry Winkler; daughter, Shanda Winkler Felts of Carlisle; son, Ben Winkler III of Des Arc; sister, Carolyn Hambrick; and brothers, Harold and Jerry Childers.

Graveside services were held May 22 at Lakeside Cemetery with Garth Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Ray Todd

Leonard Ray Todd, 70, died May 15, 2006. He was raised in DeValls Bluff and attended and graduated from the Arkansas School for the Blind in Little Rock. He and his family moved to Carlisle in 1971.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Bonnie Hale, Rachel Mees and Amey Watson; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Todd; five sisters, Rosa Barnett, Anita Black, Mary Stokes, Evelyn Gales and Ruth Calvert.

Funeral services were held May 17 at the Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in DeValls Bluff.

Hazel ‘Nanny’ Vann

Hazel “Nanny” Vann, 92, of Cabot died Wednesday, May 17, 2006. She was a lifetime member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and a volunteer and active member of Jacksonville Senior Citizens Group.

She is survived by two daughters Mary Jo Morrow, of Little Rock and Fay Driskill, of Cabot; three sons, Ronnie Vann, Donnie Vann, both of Cabot and Ray Vann, of Furlow; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, 11923 Zion Hill Road, Cabot, Arkansas 72023.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in Sumner Cemetery. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.

Callie L. DeVinney

Callie Louise DeVinney, 86, of LA Center, Ky. died on May 18, 2006. She was born in Lonoke. She lived in Mabelvale for 15 years. She is survived by her daughter Fran Pope of Mabelvale; sister Lois Munnerlyn of Carlisle, 7 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, May 21 at Boyd Chapel with interment in Legate Cemetery.

Barbara E. Hefner

Barbara E. “Bobbie” Hefner, of Beebe, died May 20, 2006.

She was Presbyterian by faith.

Surviving are her sons, Ray of Beebe, Lynn of Cabot, and Keith Hefner of Van Buren; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held May 23 at Antioch Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The American Diabetes. Association, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72205. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral home.

Elmer D. Shubert

Elmer Durward Shubert, 87, of Cabot died Friday, May 26, 2006. He was born April 19, 1919 in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Shubert was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Petty Officer First Class in the United States Navy from 1938 to 1945. He served our country in W.W.II. in the South Pacific and was an Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, A. Aleene Chancey Shubert and his second wife, Muriel Moran Shubert; as well as two sisters, Dorothy Brannon and Elzera Gwin.
He is survived by his children; Dwight Shubert of North Little Rock and Kathy Ragar of Cabot; one sister; Maude Brannon of Cabot; two grandchildren; Heather Wagner of Monticello and Dr. Brent Ragar of Boston, Mass.

Funeral services were Sunday in the Chapel of Cabot Funeral Home. Burial followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Alex Boryschtsck, Sr.

Alex “Pop” Boryschtsck, Sr., age 81, of Cabot, died May 26, 2006.

Survivors include son Alex, Jr.; grandson, two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Holiness Tabernacle in Cabot. Donations may be made to Holiness Tabernacle. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.

Jimmy Elliott

Jimmy Elliott, age 69, of Humphrey, died May 20, 2006.

Survivors include three sisters: Joyce Larkin of Hazen, Betty Nick of Greenbrier and Jean Crossett of Texas; and one brother Starlin Elliott of Humphrey.

Graveside services were Saturday, May 27, 2006. at Frazier Cemetery in Humphrey. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.

Christine Rehbach

Christine Jeanette Studer-Rehbach, age 48, of Cabot, died Friday, May 26, 2006.

She is survived by her mother Beulah Ray and step-father H.L. Ray of Cabot; a son Toby Rehbach and a daughter Amy Jackson both of Jacksonville; four grandsons; two brothers – Bill Studer of Jacksonville and David Studer of Cabot; a sister Katina Ray of Cabot; two grandmothers - Naomi Eckert of West Baden Springs, Ind. and Elizabeth Martin of Winslow, Ind.

Funeral services were Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Mt. Springs Baptist Church. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.

Bobby J. Kloss, Jr.

Bobby James Kloss, Jr., 41, of Bigelow, died May 26, 2006.

He was employed by Team 1 Auto Body for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; children, Justin Kloss of Bigelow, David Howard Jr., of Alexander, and Amanda Kennedy of Little Rock; brothers, Clint Kloss of North Little Rock, Doug Kloss of Cabot and Allen Kloss of Benton; sister, Gina Kloss of North Little Rock; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wed., May 31, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Chapel, 5800 W. 12th, Little Rock.

Carl F. Stecks

Tireless farmer, perfectionist, devoted husband, father of three, traveler, self-taught from the eighth grade, Carl Frederick Stecks went to be with the Lord at the age of 91 from a stroke and subsequent pneumonia.

Born November 25, 1914 to Carl Gustave and Minnie Bock Stecks in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Carl was the son of early Arkansas settlers who introduced rice farming to the communities of Almyra and Crocketts Bluff. He attended the Prairie Dell School, a one-room school north of Almyra and a three mile walk from the family farm. In 1932, the Stecks family moved their machinery and livestock to a farm between Lonoke and Scott. Carl purchased the farm from his parents and became one of the best growers in his region. With wife and children he was named Farm Family of the Year for Arkansas in 1963.

Possessing a curiosity that caused him to read prolifically and travel extensively, Carl and his equally hard-working and always supportive wife of 68 years, Ida Mae, toured the world-Seattle to Key West, Alaska to South America, Russia to New Zealand.

Carl and Ida Mae retired to Sherwood where he lived at the time of his death.

Preceding him in death are beloved wife; parents; and brothers William H. Stecks and Ervin G. Stecks.

Survivors are sister, Eunice Watson; children, Carl “Freddie”, Jr. and Jane Stecks, Michael and Jo Anne Stecks, Brenda and Randall Smith; grandchildren, Carl Stecks, III and sons Carl, IV and Ethan; Gregory Stecks; Leigh and Brendan Quirk and children Lily, James and Ernest; Kevin and Alecia Stecks and daughter Haven; Michael Stecks, Jr. and daughter Kennedy; Ami Stecks; Sarah, Stephen, Ben and Eric Smith.

The funeral service was 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lonoke United Methodist Church with interment in Lonoke Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons. The family received friends 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lonoke United Methodist Church, Lonoke County Library, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Waydean German

Waydean German, 81, of Jacksonville, died May 27, 2006.

She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Roy, and Robert German both of Jacksonville, Marvin German of North Carolina, and Jimmy German of Carlisle; daughters, Mary Tillman of Mayflower, Remonia Chapman of Sherwood, Catherine and Dardenne of Pine Bluff; seven brothers; three sisters; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Cabot Nursing and Rehab or Arkansas Hospice.

Funeral services were held May 30 at Harmony Baptist Church. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery in North Little Rock. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.
