Bonnie J. Chesshir

Bonnie Jean Chesshir, 87, of Searcy died Tuesday, July 25, 2006. She taught for 35 years in Arkansas public schools and the last 25 years in Magnolia. She was a member of College Church of Christ in Searcy.

Survivors include her daughter, Jan Morgan; brothers J.B. Williams of Haughton, La., and Winfred Williams of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren Melani Blansett of Cabot and one other grandchild; and one great-grandson.

A memorial service was held Friday, July 28, at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy.
Arrangements were by Powell Funeral Home.

Clinton Smith

Clinton “Popeye” Smith, 74, of Cabot died Saturday, July 29, 2006. He was a 24-year veteran of the military, retired as a sergeant first class from the Army Security Agency, taught junior ROTC at White Hall Junior High School, and was a Baptist and member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Renee Smith, parents Melvin Henry and Jimmie Velma (Brown) Smith, and brothers John Henry Smith and William Oscar Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Rhea Smith; sons Clinton Stewart Smith Jr. and wife Margaret of Oklahoma, and Douglas Henry Melvin Smith of Fayetteville; daughters Melissa Ann Hampton and husband Dr. John III of Little Rock, and Diana Rhea Fitzgerald of Cabot; sisters Wilma Lee Brimer of Mabelvale, Annie Bell Gicante of Little Rock, Meveline Schooley of Nashville, and Vilma Josephine Allred of Pine Bluff; brothers Herman Lee Smith of Cabot, John Lee Smith of Sherwood, and Jimmie Lauren Smith of White Hall; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel, 7724 Landers Rd. in North Little Rock, with Pastor Harold O’Bryan officiating.

The family requests that memorials be made to American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, Ark. 72203.

Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Brandon T. Pruitt

Brandon Taylor Pruitt, 9, of Ft. Dix, N.J., formerly of Jacksonville, died Friday, July 28, 2006. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and played Mighty Mights football on the Ft. Dix Chargers team.

He is survived by his parents, Michael B. and Jennifer L. Massey Pruitt; brother Derek Pruitt of the home; and grandparents Betty and William Brewer of Jacksonville, Oma and Garland Massey of Greenbrier, and Michael and Tammy Pruitt of Austin.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Moore’s Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Derek Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.

Arrangements were by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Fred Allen Young

Fred Allen Young, 66, of Jacksonville died Sunday July 30, 2006. He spent 30 years as a drywall contractor and recently was in equipment sales.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Young.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Ronnie Young of Cabot, Terry Young of London, and Tim Lovelace of Oak Grove; parents Marion and Mary Kay Young of Little Rock; brother Paul Young of Little Rock; sister Phyllis Holifield; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Saint Jude Catholic Church, followed by interment in Arkansas Memorial Gardens

Arrangements were by Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood.

Patricia C. Duncan

On July 28, 2006, we returned to our Lord, Patricia Carolyn Duncan, wife of 46 years to Doyle Winston Duncan of Cabot, Arkansas.

She was mother to Doyle Winston Duncan Jr. and Jeffery Kent Duncan, both of Memphis, Tenn.; stepmother to Janice McWilliams of Waco, Texas, and Linda Starks of Cross Plains, Tenn. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Darren, Michelle, Corey, Daniel, Andrea, Mallory, Joshua and Lindsey; five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Skylar, Emma, Caleb and Megan; and siblings Carrol Houser, Jewel Miller, Judy Hocutt, Jennie Cox, Barbara Hill and Betty Dorsey.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Harrison.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Monday, July 31, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot, with interment in Sumner Cemetery. Visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

Rodney T. Ballard

Rodney Thomas Dewitt Ballard, 24, of Cabot, died Sunday, July 30, 2006. He was born July 21, 1982, to Ronnie and Kathy Mullins Ballard in Little Rock and is a 2001 graduate of Cabot High School.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Carroll Mullins and Imogene Richardson.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Felisha Ballard of Cabot; a brother, Zachary Ballard of Cabot; a grandfather, Dewitt Ballard of Ward; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Victory Baptist Church in Cabot. Interment will followed at Old Austin Cemetery in Ward. Arrangements by Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.

Daniel Watters

Daniel Brett Watters, age 25, of Ward passed away July 20, 2006. He loved many outdoor activities such as fishing, four wheelers and motorcycle riding, and shooting his bow. Daniel also loved his pet bulldog, Dozier.

Survivors include his father, David Watters of Ward; mother, Kathi Langford of Searcy; two sons, Daniel Brett Watters II of Brownsboro, Texas, and Hayden Brett Watters of Benton; sister, Olevia Watters of Beebe; grandparents, Wrolen and Betty Watters of Ward, Donna Watters of Ward, and Ann King of Newark; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Briarwood Baptist Church in Cabot.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Briarwood Baptist Church Youth Center.

Mary Griffin

Mary Margaret Griffin, 79, of Austin died Tuesday July 25, 2006. She was a retired manufacturing worker and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Griffin.

She is survived by two children; daughter Vickie Joslin of Austin and son Ricky Griffin of Ward; one sister, Elaine Weatherly of Cabot; three grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, 2006 at the chapel of Cabot Funeral Home with the Rev. Otto Brown officiating. Interment followed at 16th Section Cemetery in Austin. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home.

Pauline Ray

Pauline Ray, 95, of Cabot died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006. A Mississippi native who was moved to Arkansas with her family in 1916, she was graduate of Brinkley High School and former school teacher, as well as a pianist and vocal soloist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; and daughter-in-law, Gail Ray.
She is survived by son Franklin B. Ray of Hernando, Miss.; Paula Sherrill and husband Gene of Wildwood, Mo.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Briarwood Baptist in Cabot. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials may be made to Briarwood Baptist Church building fund.

Earline Ferne Weber

Earline Ferne Weber, 66, passed away in her sleep July 29, 2006. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Weber.

Ms. Weber is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Michelle Weber of Littleton, Colo., Mickey and Corey Weber of Snohomish, Wash., Billy and Janet Weber of Lapeer, Mich. and George and Carolyn Weber of San Angelo, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Terry and Greg Thompson of Ward, Ark., Michelle and Johnny Arceneaux of Baytown, Texas and Nancy Weber of Houston; one sister Misty Rucker of Houston; 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were Friday, August 4, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Chapel in Dayton, Texas with visitation preceding from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

James Mark Wood

James Mark Wood, age 49, of Doraville, Ga., died Monday July 24, 2006 at his home. He was born September 16, 1956 in Atlanta, Ga., to the late James and Doris Wood. Mark owned and operated Woody’s Auto Sales for the past 17 years in Duluth, Ga.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law: Michael and Kelly Wood and their two sons Noah and Jacob; brother Greg Wood and his children Jenny, Margret, and Mathew; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Renee Wood and their children Rachael and Molly; his “girls” Corgies Lucy and Ethel. Mark loved flying, cars, the beach, and spending time with his extended family to include James and Martha Reeves, Ralph and Marian Allen, and Herb and Carol Vandiver and his extensive group of friends.

He was loved and admired by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday July 28, 2006, at Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel, with the Rev. Phil Williams officiating. Arrangements by Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Duluth Chapel.
