Michael Young

Michael Young, 49, of Vilonia died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his mother Ila Bentley Young.

He is survived by his father Paul Young; sister Paula Beasley of Mayflower; and brother Logan Young of Vilonia.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moores Cabot Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Clara Johnson

Clara Belle Johnson, 64, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006. She was employed for more than 20 years at Union Life Insurance Company and also worked for MetLife and Independent Colleges of Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Johnson and her father Luther Wilson Ghent.

She is survived by her sons Scott Johnson of Austin, and Greg Johnson and wife Kim of Benton; daughter Cheryl Johnson of Benton; two grandsons; mother Ima Ghent of Mountain View; and sister Gayle Ghent of Mabelvale.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 19, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth in Little Rock. Burial followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials be made to Baptist Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Suite 2000, Little Rock, AR 72210.

Harold L. Lackie

Harold Lyndle Lackie passed away Sept. 3, 2006. He was born Nov. 21, 1929, to the late William Richard and Lena Tucker Lackie.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Bryan, Daisy Stricklin, and Nora Finch, along with two brothers, Don Lackie and William Lackie Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Emma Jean Jackson Lackie of Lonoke; his children, Richard Lee Lackie of Gravette, Ark., Lelah Jo Sawyer (John) of Lonoke, and Lynn Franklin Lackie of Hot Springs; grandchildren William Lee Lackie and Robert Newton Parker III; great-granddaughter Hayden Elizabeth Parker; sisters Thelma Welch and Rosa Nan Estell; brother Ray Lackie; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lyndle graduated from Lonoke High School in 1948 and served in the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. He was a State Farm insurance agent in Lonoke for 31 years. He was a life-long member of the Lonoke Baptist Church and served as deacon for 40 years. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and served as a past worshipful master of the Lonoke Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed membership with The Chosin Few, the Marines Fraternity of Honor.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at the Lonoke Baptist Church, with burial at Lonoke Cemetery. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

The family requests any memorials be made to the Lonoke Baptist Church Building Fund.

Joe Weatherly Jr.

Joe Weatherly Jr., age 72, of Austin, Ark., was born July 23, 1934, in Romance, Ark., to Joe Henry and Mattie Stracener Weatherly, and died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006. He was a member of Woodrow Church of Christ and owner and operator of Pappy Joe’s Signs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis, his parents, and his brother, Willis Weatherly.

He is survived by four sons, Don Weatherly, Ron Weatherly, Rusty Liles, and Michael Weatherly; three daughters, Barbara Petrick, Shirley Harris, and Lila Healy; 15 grandchildren; five brothers; five sisters; and his companion, Velma Cunningham.

Graveside service was 1 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2006, at Sixteenth Section Cemetery, by Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Jeffery McPhearson

Jeffery McPhearson, 47, of Lonoke died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Morris, nine brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 2, at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke, with burial in Lonoke Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

James O. Smith

James O. “Jimmy” Smith, 73 of Little Rock died on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Rose Hill Nazarene Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Erkle (Loux) Smith, and brother Lemual Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Smith of Little Rock; son Bradley Smith of Sherwood; daughters Jamy Caple and husband Charles of Bryant, and Sonya Meeker of Oktaha, Okla.; stepdaughter Marsha Strickland of Texarkana; sister Joyce Ann “Susie” Hardin of Little Rock; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Sumner Cemetery in Cabot.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Lung Association or Hospice Home Care.

Evelyn M. Ables

Evelyn Marie Ables, 63, of Alexander died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006.

She is survived by her sons, L.S. Crook of Little Rock and Mark Crook of Traskwood; daughters Laura Sandage of Alexander, Tammy Linn of Sheridan, and Carla Crook of Benton; brother Rocky Hardin of Batesville; and sisters Lois Hardin of Little Rock and April Spence of Cabot.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 31, at Ashby’s Chapel. Burial was in the Social Hill Cemetery.

Minnie Edwards

Minnie Louise Edwards, 80, of Cabot, died Aug. 31, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Boyd, and brothers Buddy Snead and Sam Snead Sr.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Troy Edwards; daughter Linda McDorman and husband Johnny of Bryant; son Tim Edwards Sr. and wife Kathy; brother Carroll Snead and wife Devone of Jacksonville; four grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and best friend Irma Cothran of Cabot.

A gathering to celebrate her life was held for family and friends at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alladean Agee

Alladean “Sissy” Agee, 74, of Carlisle died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006. She was a former health-care nurse.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Agee, four brothers, and three sisters.
She is survived by her sons, James Agee and wife Stacy of Carlisle, and Tim Tucker of Des Arc; daughters Janice Ostrander and Francis Reddick, both of Oregon, and Sandy Freeman of Montana; one sister; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Center Point Cemetery near Hazen.

Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Wendell Dedmon

Wendell Kelly Dedmon, 66, of Cabot died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief petty officer with specialty in submarine sonar, and continued in the area of research and design of sonar electronics.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Kelly and Marjorie Freeman Dedmon, and brothers Jimmy, Andy, and David Dedmon.

He is survived by his wife Bessie Dedmon; daughters Nona Davis and husband Jered of Cabot and Amy Martin and husband Matt of Clarksville, Tenn.; stepson Charles Smith and wife Dale of Cabot; sisters Anna Lee White and Rhoda Belle Burgess of Cabot, and Martha Osgood of Iowa; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Bayou Meto Baptist Church in Jacksonville with interment following at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Cancer Research Center at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Arrangements were by Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot.
