Ralph Sweeting Jr.
Ralph Leroy Sweeting Jr., 45, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Leroy Sweeting Sr. and Clara Bell Rice-Sweeting, brother Carl Sweeting and one infant brother.
He is survived by his son, Ralph Leroy Sweeting III of Florida; daughter Misty Sweeting of Florida; sisters Deborah Henderson of Russellville, Ky., Linda Pruitt of Cabot, Barbara Cornelius of Folkston, Ga., and Patricia Hurst of Waycross, Ga.; brothers Robert Sweeting of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rondall Davis and David Davis both of Bowling Green, Ky.
Cremation arrangements were by Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot.
Brenda Joyce King
Brenda Joyce “B.J.” Harris King, 56, of Cabot died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, a cosmetologist in Clarendon for many years and worked for Heritage Publishing for the last 13 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Newton and Gladys Anna Weston Harris, and brother James Harris.
She is survived by her daughters, Shasta Ballard and husband Phillip, and Chelsea Folts and husband Nick, all of Cabot; brother Jerry Harris and wife Sharon of Cabot; four grandchildren; her second father Cotton Ives of Ulm; and her dog Sara.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Victory Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Roe Cemetery
near Clarenden.
Arrangements are by Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.
Wesley Kemp
Wesley Kemp, 55, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked in law enforcement for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley M. Kemp Sr. and Lora Jones Vaughn, brothers Daryl Wayne, Thomas, and Buford Kemp, and granddaughter Haven Leigh Dyer-Kemp.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Delois Kemp; children Billy Wayne Kemp of Missouri, Wesley M. Kemp III, Tonya Ballou, and Gail Hobby of Jacksonville, and Deanna Martinez of Lonoke; siblings Chester Vaughn of Rogers, Terry Vaughn of Harrison, Treasa Cummins of Missouri, and Tony Vaughn of Canada; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke. Burial followed in the Concord Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.
Gerald F. Glass
Gerald F. Glass, 76, of Cabot and a long-time resident of Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006. He was a self-employed cabinetmaker and woodworker and later in life worked as an engineering draftsman.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Geneva Mae Sanford Glass.
He is survived by his daughter, Gigi F. Glass Gately and husband James of Lonoke; and cousins Gloria Freas Glass Breen of Bensalem, Penn., and Doris J. Freas Glass Lutes of Andalusia, Penn.
The family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice Foundation.
David Walter Reid
David Walter Reid, 71, of Cabot, formerly of Mountain Home, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an aviation electrician, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Mountain Home, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Helen and Lydia Reid, and parents Walter and Alice Jenkins Reid.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis of Austin and Jon Reid of Mountain Home; daughters Susan Sandy of Falon, Nev., and Althea McKillip of Ward; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Riverside National Cemetery
in Riverside, Calif.
Howell Thompson
Howell M. Thompson, 84, of Cabot died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, a member of First Baptist Church of Cabot for 42 years, served on the Bank of Cabot Board of Directors for 31 years, and owned Thompson’s Dollar Saver grocery store.
He was preceded in death by his, parents T.W. and Reesie Priest, brother Vernon Thompson, and sister Alby Ferguson.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Marie Thompson; sons John C. Thompson and wife Beverly of Cabot, and Tommy Thompson and fiancee Diane Forbes of Morrilton; brother James Thompson of Sherwood; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 10, at First Baptist Church in Cabot. Interment followed Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Herbert Ellison Sr.
Herbert David Ellison Sr., 64, of Jacksonville died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his son, Herbert David Ellison Jr., parents Chester A. and Nancy R. Brambach Ellison Sr., granddaughters Sydney and Paige, and great-grandson Ethan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ellison of Jacksonville; sons Robert Mark Ellison and wife Diane, and Chad A. Ellison and wife Becky Jean, all of Austin, and Timothy Andrew Ellison of Jacksonville; daughters Kim Denise Hardin of Cabot, Kelly Doreen Kulback and husband Jess of Deering, N.H., Kristy Dorn Flynn and husband Michael of Benton, and Betty Jane Houston and husband John Ashley of Austin; brothers Robert Ellison of Palm Coast, Fla., Peter Ellison and wife Janis of Wantaugh, N.Y., and Chester Ellison and wife Carla of New London, N.H.; sister, Nancy Conlon of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 32 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 11, at Grace Fellowship in Cabot.

A.W. Pennington Sr.
A.W. “Woody” Pennington Sr., 84, of Furlow died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. He was a U.S Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and retired as the owner of The Country Merchant Grocery at Galloway in 1990.
He is survived by his children, Woody Pennington and wife Louise, and Olivia Piazza, all of Little Rock, and John Pennington and wife Kim of Perryville; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Monday, Sept. 11, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery
in North Little Rock.

Virginia Godley
Virginia Fern (Austin) Godley, 75, of Spanaway, Wash., formerly of Jacksonville, died Monday, May 29, 2006. She was a member of The Church Of The Nazarene in Jacksonville and was a retired store clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth James Godley, parents Frank and Viola Sanders Austin, and brother Lyle Austin.
She is survived by sons Rodney Kenneth Godley of Owosso, Mich., Ronald David Godley of Lonoke, and Jeffrey Ray Godley of Ward; daughters Karen Kay Jeffries of Spanaway, Wash., and Kathy Godley Peel of Alexandria, Va.; brothers Jerry, Duane, and Dale Austin; sisters Leona Lawback and Eva Roy; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at The Church of The Nazarene in Jacksonville with the Rev. Ron Riddle officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorials be made to Jacksonville Senior Center or to The Church Of The Nazarene.

Patricia Philpot
Patricia Anne Letasky Philpot, 70, of Carlisle died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. She was a member of Carlisle First Baptist Church and a graduate of Lonoke High School.
She is survived by her children, Lee Anne Hess and husband Steve of Conway, and Donna Curry and John Philpot of Carlisle; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Carlisle First Baptist Church, with burial in Carlisle Cemetery.

Larry Johnson Sr.
Larry Joe Johnson Sr., 59, formerly of Lonoke, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006.
He was born March 28, 1947 to the late Leo and Kathryn Johnson in Little Rock. He was a retired truck driver, owner/operator of 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Brandi Parker.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Kathy Johnson; one son, Larry (Sherry) Johnson Jr. of Butlerville; two daughters, Laura (Danny) Lackie of Ward, Shannon Benton of Lonoke, and two step-daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Glass of Conway, and Keni Overton of Mabelvale; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Johnson of California and Bobbie Wilson of Arizona; one very special friend Tommy Murphy; and many other friends and relatives.
A funeral service was held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke with burial in Hester Cemetery.
