Vincent A "Buddy" Sokora
Vincent A. “Buddy” Sokora, 77, devoted husband, father, grandfather – and soon to be great-grandfather – passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center with his family at his side.
He was born July 24, 1930, in Slovak. The son of Vince F. and Mary N. Sokora, he attended grade school in Slovak and graduated from Subiaco Academy in 1947. He attended Loyola University in New Orleans and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Buddy joined the Third Degree Knights of Columbus in 1951. In 1956, he joined the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus along with his father and his brother. Buddy became a member of the Exemplification Team in 1957 and served on it until 2004. He served as Grand Knight of Slovak Council #3998 and ticket chairman for the annual oyster supper several times over the years. In March 1998 he was honored as the first lay person to have a Fourth Degree class named after them.
An avid football fan, Buddy loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and was the color commentator for Stuttgart Ricebird football many years in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Buddy loved duck hunting – especially at Peckerwood Lake – and hosted many final day cookouts there.
Buddy was a faithful member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Slovak and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Stuttgart.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Sokora in 2004; his parents, Vince F. and Mary N. Sokora; his brother, Joseph N. Sokora; and his sister, Betty Miros.
Buddy is survived by his children: Barbara and Gary Wood of Stuttgart; Beverly and Phillip Pond of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Jimmy and Dawne Sokora of Little Rock; Brenda and Clay Jeter of Wabbaseka; and Bonnie and Mike Griffin of Little Rock. He is also survived by grandchildren: Vincent Wood of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; Garrett and Staci Wood of Little Rock; Amanda Pond of Glendale, California; Lindsay and Jordan Fidanza of Grayson, Georgia; Hannah, Nicholas and Zachary Sokora of Little Rock; Hudgens and Hunter Jeter of Wabbaseka; Juliana and Andrew Griffin of Little Rock; and soon-to-be great-granddaughter Fidanza of Grayson, Georgia. In addition he is survived by his sister-in-law, Dolly Sokora; his brother-in-law, Frank Miros; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Rosary services will take place Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 25, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Slovak by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
The family requests memorials be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1815 S. Prairie, Stuttgart; Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 1852 Hwy. 86 West, Stuttgart; Holy Rosary Catholic School, 920 W. 19th, Stuttgart; or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Roy Boehn
Roy John Porter Boehn, 93, of Stuttgart died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Crestpark Retirement Center.
Mr. Boehn was born Dec. 3, 1914, in Moscow Mills, Mo., to John Jacob and Martha Hensiek Boehn. He was a farmer laborer and member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Waldo, Golbert and Arnold; and two sisters, Ella Conrad and Edna Landon.
Survivors are several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Memorials may be made to Find-Us-Faithful Phase 2 Fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Anna Bell Keaton
Anna Bell Bronson Keaton, 82, of Stuttgart, widow of Johnny Keaton, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Crestpark of Stuttgart.
Mrs. Keaton was born April 24, 1925, in Arkansas County to Arnold and Flora Conn Bronson. She was a housewife and mother, and member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors are one son, Dwight Keaton and wife Margaret; and two sisters, Beatrice Bronson Smith and Louise Bronson Tipton.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. David Inzer, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials are requested to Harmony Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.

Paul Chlapecka
CARLISLE, Ark. – Paul Roosevelt Chlapecka, 74, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Chambers Nursing Home Center in Carlisle.
Mr. Chlapecka was born July 18, 1933, in Hazen to Paul and Betty Vachula Chlapecka. He was an Army veteran serving from Jan. 21, 1953, to May 22, 1963. Before retirement, he was employed by Allied Van Lines.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Chlapecka; a sister, Lillian Chlapecka Hornet; and two nephews, Johnny Jr. and Jimmy Chlapecka.
Survivors are a sister-in-law, Evelyn Chlapecka of Brookfield, Ill.; two nieces, Betty Barbara Olewinski of Naperville, Ill., and Paula Dorobilla of Brooksfield; one nephew, Chuck Horton; and a cousin, Steve Chlapecka of Hazen.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kathryn Tanner Davis
Kathryn Tanner Davis, 99, of Stuttgart died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Crestpark Retirement Center.
Mrs. Davis was born June 23, 1908, in Alamo, Tenn., to Robert Fleming and Nannie Hall Tanner. She graduated from Alamo High School and attended Austin Peay in Tennessee before becoming a school teacher. She married D.B. Davis Sr., who preceded her in death, in September of 1927.
During World War II she worked in a munitions plant in Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Davis moved to Stuttgart in 1943 where she became a founding member of the Amici Club and the Loyal Daughters at First Christian Church where she was also a member. She was also active in the Arkansas Federated Womens’ Clubs from the 1950s-1980s.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Davis Jr.; and a grandson, Delbert Davis III.
Survivors are her son, Cliff T. Davis and wife Paula of Denver, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Pam Davis of Greers Ferry, Ark.; granddaughter, Kay Dean Kaplan of Reston, Va.; great-grandsons, Daniel Davis of Austin, Texas, and Michael Kaplan of Reston; niece, Nan Edward Hicks of Humboldt, Tenn.; and nephew, Paul Snow of Tigard, Ore.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until funeral service time at Turpin Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to First Christian Church or the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie.

Lottie Clemons Cowan
Lottie Clemons Cowan, 93, of Stuttgart died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Lester, Ark., to Frank and Artie Thompson. Mrs. Cowan was a homemaker and a member of RSVP.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, William P. Clemons and Manuel D. Cowan; one son, James Clemons; and one brother, James Robertson.
Survivors are one son, Tommie Clemons (Jean) of Hammond, La.; one daughter, Lucy Fox (Bill) of Stuttgart; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Gregg Greenway officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home, Inc. of Stuttgart.
Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home.

John "Nip" Konecny
John J. “Nip” Konecny, 78, of Stuttgart died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at his home. He was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Slovak to John and Nora Konecny.
“Nip” was a contractor, a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Sylvester and Leonard Konecny; two sisters, Helen Konecny and Christina Garrett; and one grandson, Matthew McKee.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Konecny; two sons, James Konecny (Debbie) of The Colony, Texas, and Lester Konecny (Janet) of Jacksonville, Texas; three daughters, Vanessa Denman (Tenny Hartley) of Stuttgart, Cindy Munnerlyn (Ricky) of Humphrey and Laura McKee (Jason Cook) of Stuttgart; one brother, Joseph Konecny (Joyce) of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Bridget Piatkowski of Memphis, Tenn., Juanita Butcher of Stuttgart and Sister Jolitta Konecny of Little Rock; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial, officiated by Monsignor John A. Janesko, will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home, Inc. of Stuttgart.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel followed by the rosary at 7 pm.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or to St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.
