Virginia E. Staggs Virginia Estelle Staggs departed this world Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 3, 1922, and grew to adulthood in Pottsville, Ark., the only child of William Sydney and Roberta Lee Kesler. She married Murl Dean Staggs of Crow Mountain, Ark., on Nov. 11, 1939. The only child of the union, Paul Dean Staggs, was born on June 29, 1941. Estelle spent her adult years as a bookkeeper for the family business, F&S Plumbing in North Little Rock, Ark. She was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. During her retirement years she enjoyed working with church organizations at Park View Baptist Church of North Little Rock and volunteering at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Little Rock. She also spent many happy days with her friends in the Good Sam Club camping around the state of Arkansas as well as other parts of the South. Her final years were devoted to family and friends in Stuttgart as well as to friends at Crestpark Retirement Inn of Stuttgart. Of special note are Rhonda Morrow, Debbie Gordon, Judy and John Conrad, Lataaka Harvey and Luvenia Keaton who filled her days with love and friendship. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years, and her only child. Surviving are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Marc Staggs (Jean Gener Staggs) of North Little Rock, Beth Washburn (Neil Washburn) of Stuttgart, Leah Riels of Memphis and Kelly Staggs Sandy (Ed Sandy) of Memphis, Travis Dean Staggs of Iowa, Sarah Staggs of Memphis, and Robert and Will Washburn of Stuttgart. Also preceding her in death are her lifelong friends Bill and Jo Crace of North Little Rock. Virginia was loved and will be missed by many. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. David Inzer, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with interment following in Edgewood Cemetery in North Little Rock. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home. Her family requests memorials be made to Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, 910 E. 19th St., Stuttgart, Ark. 72160. Hildebrand, Cleda Marie Cleda Marie Hildebrand, 90, a member of one of Stuttgart’s early farm families, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hildebrand was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Hagler, Ark. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church at Stuttgart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hildebrand; a son, Vernon Hildebrand; a great-grandson, Alex Sheppard; one sister, Ora Lee Inman; and three brothers, Bobby, Ralph and Harrison Watkins. Survivors are her son, Raymond Hildebrand (Linda) of Stuttgart; her daughter, Wanda Hartz (Jake) of Stuttgart; one brother, Harold Wayne Watkins of Sheridan; two sisters, Dorothy Watkins of Stuttgart and Evelyn Aldridge of Winchester; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Private family burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home. A memorial service, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church. The family requests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice. Delores Elizabeth Manzey Delores Elizabeth Manzey, 73, of Maumelle, formerly of Stuttgart, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Baptist Health in Little Rock. Delores was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Brazil, Ind., the daughter of Warren and Kathleen Elizabeth Asher. She was a member of First Christian Church where she served as church secretary for more than 20 years. She was also a member of Stuttgart Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #102, Hazen Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #5 and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was past Worthy Matron of both the Stuttgart and Hazen chapters of EOS and was past District Deputy Grand Lecturer of the Grand Chapter of Arkansas OES. Survivors are two daughters, Denise Manzey and husband Eddie Iglecias of Maumelle and Paula Harvey and husband Ronnie of Noblesville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Sherry Horton, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Stuttgart Chapter OES, 1201 S. Eleanor Faye Morris Thomas Eleanor Faye Morris Thomas, 68, of Stuttgart died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Baptist Health in Little Rock. Mrs. Thomas was born April 30, 1939, in Waldo, Ark., the daughter of William Harold and Hughlette Ellen Dorman Morris who preceded her in death. Following graduation from Waldo High School and Southern State University at Magnolia, Mrs. Thomas taught school for 39 years with 30 of those years in Stuttgart. She was awarded Teacher of the Year at both Julia Shannon and Gingerich Elementary schools. She was named Who’s Who of American Teachers four times and Geography Alliance of Arkansas 10 times. She served on the Economics Council of Arkansas and Department of Education of Arkansas Literacy Advisement Council for five years. She devoted her life to children through many years of teaching and continued with her devotion to her grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Stuttgart. Survivors are her husband of 42 years, William Arthur “Bill” Thomas; one son, William Russell Thomas of Little Rock; one daughter, Laura Ellen Mashburn and fiancé Stephen Saranie of Stuttgart; one brother, John Harold Morris and wife Margaret of Waldo; one sister, Barbara Dolores Snodgrass and husband Bob of Valley Springs, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Cody Dylan Mashburn and Kelsi Dru Mashburn. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at First Baptist Church in Stuttgart. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Shiloh Cemetery in Waldo by Bro. Ed Phillips. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home. Brown, 54, of Humphrey died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at his home. Mr. Brown was born Sept. 29, 1953, in DeWitt, the son of Cecil N. Brown and Geneva Pearl Brimer Brown. He was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and was a Pentecost. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Billy Joe Brown. Survivors are a daughter, Stacy Tackett of Little Rock; his mother, Geneva Pearl Brown of Humphrey; a brother, Cecil E. Brown of Humphrey; and a granddaughter, Emiley Tackett. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Sam Funderburg, are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Flynn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home. Phyllis Anne Tait Whitney Phyllis Anne Tait Whitney was born March 2, 1951, in Stuttgart and ascended to her Heavenly Father on Feb. 9, 2008. She was preceded in death by her sister, Paula J. Tait Carmichael. Survivors include Shari and Amy of DeWitt; her father and mother, James and Pauline Tait of Stuttgart; two sister, Brenda Gifford of Stuttgart and Jami Tait Hanks of Wichita, Kan.; and brother, Richard Harrison of Navarre, Fla. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Glenn Larson, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church. The family requests memorials be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 209 S. Grand Ave., Stuttgart. Oneal Hammond Freeman Oneal Hammond Freeman was born on September 3rd, 1915, in Elgin, Arkansas to William Albert and Louise Hammond. After graduation from Tuckerman High School, Oneal moved to Pine Bluff where she received a secretarial degree from a local business school. She then began working for Senator Eugene Baker at the state capitol. During a recess a year later, she visited friends in Stuttgart, and was introduced to a local bachelor, Marion Freeman. She won his heart, and the couple was married the next year in a ceremony in Newark. They began their life together on a farm near Lodge Corner. Mrs. Freeman was a member of First Baptist Church for 60 years where she taught Sunday school and was active in WMU. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Stuttgart Women’s Club where she held numerous offices. She was an avid sports fan and frequently attended Arkansas Razorback and Dallas Cowboy games. She and her friend, Mary Daugherty, also traveled extensively for several years. Preceded in death by her husband, Marion, and brother, William (Bill) Hammond, she is survived by her sister, Nora Lee Armstrong Ferega of Oklahoma City, a daughter, Marineal Freeman Porter (Paul) of Stuttgart, two grandchildren, Kelli Anne Culler and Michael Freeman Porter, and a great-grandchild, Saige Camille Culler, all of Dallas. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
