Lynn D. Staton
Lynn D. Staton, 80, of Stuttgart died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Baptist Health in Little Rock.
Mr. Staton was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Lonoke, the son of the late William and Elvie Parker Staton. He was an Army veteran stationed in Japan during the 
Korean War. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was retired from Riceland, Inc.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Doyne and Bobby; and one sister, Josie.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille Meins Staton; one son, Terry (Sharon) Staton; one daughter, Lynda Staton; and one grandson, Ian Staton. He is also survived by five brothers, Wayne (Eleanor), Joe (Wanda), Harold (Dean), Billy (Wanda) and Richard (Pat); three sisters, Vivian (Royal) Burt, Nettie (Wayne) Pearson and Jeanette (Bob) Thomas; and sister-in-law, Pat Staton, widow of Bob Staton. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 4, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuttgart with the Rev. David Riley and Vicar Aaron Kalbas officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery
in Stuttgart.
The family requests memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie or the donor’s choice.
June Elizabeth Makovec Webber
June Elizabeth Makovec Webber, 79, of Stuttgart passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock surrounded by her children.
She was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Slovak, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Polachie Makovec. She was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy in Jonesboro and Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kan. She was a retired school teacher and a loving mother and homemaker. A member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and RSVP.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Charlie Makovec; and a nephew, Johnny Makovec Jr.
Survivors are her children, Andrew Webber of Stuttgart, Dr. John Webber and wife Cynthia of Little Rock, Jeanne Webber of Stuttgart and Mary Webber of Conway; one brother, Johnny Makovec of Stuttgart; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, with rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
The family requests memorials be made to Stuttgart Public Library, 2002 S. Buerkle, Stuttgart, or Holy Rosary Catholic Church or St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 1815 S. Prairie, Stuttgart.
Walker Lionel Ferguson
Walker Lionel Ferguson, 92, a resident of Crestpark of Stuttgart for the last 12 years and a former resident of Clarendon, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Ferguson was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Monroe County, Ark. A veteran of World War II, he was retired from the Merchants Marines.
Survivors are his friend, Brenda Laird of Stuttgart.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Local arrangements are by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Edna Lorene Elliott
Edna Lorene Elliott went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008.
She was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Humphrey. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sidney “Haddacol” Elliott; her father, James W. Lynch Sr.; her mother, Fannie Beatrice (Dunn) Lynch.
She is survived by her four children, David Warner and wife Carol of Clarendon, Don Warner and wife Phyllis of Stuttgart, Debbie (Warner) Kincade and husband Forrest (Corky) of Stuttgart and Steve Elliott and wife Debbie of Searcy; two brothers, Buddy Lynch of Stuttgart and James W. Lynch Jr. of DeWitt; eight grandchildren, Jason Kincade, Jonathan Warner, Justin Warner, Keisha Dick, Wendy Kincade, Jarred Warner, Christopher Elliott and Christiana Elliott; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial following on Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Callestia Walker Stephens
Callestia Elizabeth Staley Walker Stephens, 90, of Stuttgart passed away Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2008, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Stephens was born Jan. 31, 1917, in Rogers, Ark., the daughter of Walter Burr Staley and Allie Fair Myers Staley. She was a homemaker and a member of Chi Sigma Sorority, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 48 and 8/40 Salon 373 Arkansas County. She was also active in Stuttgart Business and Professional Women serving as a past president.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Don W. Walker Sr. and V.K. Stephens; and two granddaughters.
Survivors include six sons, Don W. Walker (Shannon), Doug Stephens, (Joan), Gary Stephens (Pam), Ron Stephens (Becky), Clark Stephens (Betty) and Mark Stephens (Nancy); two daughters, Anne Walker Mitchell (Garrett) and Vardelle Johnson; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel. Beginning at 2 p.m., a brief ceremony by the 8/40 of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 48 will pay tribute to Mrs. Stephens.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Maplewood Cemetery
in Harrison by Holt Memorial Chapel in Harrison.

Ellen Southall
Ellen McMillin Southall, 74, of Stuttgart, widow of Ira Southall, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, in Little Rock.
Mrs. Southall was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Stuttgart, the daughter of Joe and Elsie Hayes McMillin. She was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and received her master’s degree in education from the Univeristy of Central Arkansas. She taught school for 30 years, most of those being in the Stuttgart Public Schools. She was an active member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and was involved in many of its ministries before her health declined.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill McMillin and Ray McMillin.
Survivors are her daughter, Susan Reid of Benton; two grandchildren, Catherine Reid and Zachary Reid, both of Benton; her sister, Levita Brannon of Little Rock; and a step-daughter, Jennifer Taylor of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. George Rook, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Brice VanDalsen
Brice Dale VanDalsen, 74, of Stuttgart died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center.
Mr. VanDalsen was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Carden Bottoms, Ark., the son of Clarence Cole VanDalsen and Emily Maude Hefner VanDalsen. He was manager of John Deere in Stuttgart, Hazen and England and was also co-owner of John Deere in DeWitt from 1976 until his retirement in 1984. He began employment with Equitable as a financial adviser in 1985 until his retirement in 2002 and during this time he received his CLU and ChFC degrees from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. He was owner of Kwiki Car Wash.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Stuttgart.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Bill, William Burl, Harrison and Leonard; and two sisters, Ruth Hicks and Ava Thomas.
Survivors are his wife, Donna Patterson VanDalsen; one son, Daren VanDalsen (Sandra) of Stuttgart; one daughter, Sandra VanDalsen Strain (Sammy) of Hastings, Minn.; four stepsons, John, Jeff, Joe (Deniese) and Don Carter; one step-daughter, Janna Hayes; one sister, Nina Ryder; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are John Carter, Jeff Carter, Joe Carter, Trey Carter, San Strain, Aaron Strain, Don Carter and Bryon Hayes. Honorary pallbearers are Harley Swint, Ray Sweetin, Ralph Goacher, Tom Clement, Bill Hawkins and Bruce Martin.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Arkansas Cancer Research Center or donor’s choice.
