Clara Inez Coffield Clara Inez Coffield, 91, of Stuttgart died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Cabot Health Care. Mrs. Coffield was born Dec. 26, 1916, at Thornton, Ark., to John and Stella Loveless. She was a life long resident of this area, was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker/nurse. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, R.W. “Bob” Coffield; and three step-children, Bobby Coffield, Johnnie Rybeski and Mary Langford. Survivors are two sons, Charles (Suzanne) Coffield of Stuttgart and Tommy (Sharon) Coffield of Birmingham, Ala.; one daughter, Carolyn (Jack) McNally of Cabot; her grandchildren, Terri (Bobby) Mommsen, Chuck (Kelly) Coffield, Lori (Roy) Horton, Tonya (Chris) Myers, Zachary (Angie) Coffield, Casey (Shawn) Woods, Craig McNally and Adrienne McNally; plus many well-loved great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren along with one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Greg Greenway officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Tuesday. The family suggests that memorials be sent to Southside Baptist Church. Thomas E. Huey HUMPHREY – Thomas E. Huey, 61, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. Mr. Huey was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Humphrey to Edmond N. and Millie I. Boston Huey. A graduate of Humphrey High School, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a retired UAP Midsouth truck driver. He attended Humphrey Baptist Church and loved to hunt and fish, and loved his family and friends. His father preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife of 28 years, Kathy Moore Huey; two sons, Kevin Huey and Johnny Wayne Dorman II, both of Humphrey; his mother, Millie Huey of Humphrey; one sister, Minnie Lou Carpenter of Lonoke; and three grandchildren, Matthew Dorman of Humphrey and Michelle Dorman and Ashley Nail, both of California. Graveside services, officiated by Bro. Eugene Tripplett, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flynn Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Visitation will be one hour before the service at Flynn Cemetery. The family requests memorials to Humphrey Baptist Church. Mary Elizabeth Adams Mary Elizabeth Adams, 96, of Stuttgart died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. Mary Elizabeth was born Dec. 11, 1911, in DeWitt, Ark., to Guy and Christine Rowland. She married Harvell C. Adams June 16, 1932, and lived in Arkansas County most of her life except for 14 years they resided in Little Rock. Mary Elizabeth was an active member of First United Methodist Church in both DeWitt and Stuttgart and was qualified as a Bible study instructor. She was also a member of DAR and a charter member of the Mendelssohn Club in DeWitt. Besides her parents and her husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Carroll; sister, Ellene “Sis” Smith; and her grandson, David Carter Adams. Survivors are one son, George Adams of Stuttgart; her beloved grandchildren, Christine Duran, Kathryn Kirby, Stephanie Daniels, James Carroll and Nathan Adams; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services, officiated by the Rev. Larry Kelso, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Lone Tree Cemetery chapel by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Chris Williams Christine Williams, 84, of Stuttgart died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Cardon Bottoms, Ark., to Ollie and Viola Weldon Parker. She was a homemaker, member of Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church and Eastern Star, and enjoyed camping and traveling. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James T. Williams; and two brothers. Survivors are John Keeling; and nieces and nephews, Ed Parker of Houston, Texas, Doug Parker and Susan Herrald of Hot Springs, Ark., Lea Ann Rodchester of Strickler, Ark., Kenneth Parker of Bella Vista, Ark., and Keith Parker of Woodlawn, Ark. Funeral services, officiated by Ken Parker, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Havana Cemetery at Havana, Ark., by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Her family requests memorials to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Nuel B. Shupe Nuel B. Shupe passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008. He was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Karl Daniel Shupe and Nelle Billington Shupe in August of 1917 and was 91 years old. He graduated from Stuttgart High School and was employed by Layne-Arkansas Company for 45 years rising to the level of Vice President. He founded the Massey Ferguson Sales and Service Division with stores in seven cities in the Arkansas Delta. He was founding president of the Stuttgart Community Concert Series and a member of the town band in his youth. He was a life long Lion's Club member, was recognized by Lions International for his exemplary service. He was on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas School for the Blind, served several terms on the Stuttgart City Council. He was Chairman of the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee for several years and was President of the Stuttgart Country Club. After Layne got out of the farm equipment business, Mr. Shupe, at age 50, headed the Water Treatment Division until retirement at 65, at which time he founded Shupe and Associates, Inc. and continued to work until age 82, after being joined by his son Phil and others. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jay Shirley Shupe of the home; two sons Mike Shupe and wife Mary of Rogers, Arkansas, and Phil Shupe and wife Pat of North Little Rock; five grandchildren, Matthew and Leslie Shupe of Rogers, Joy Grenade of Overland Park, Kansas, Heather Benton of Goodard, Kansas, and Shelly Shupe of Pasadena, California; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Shupe was a committed and faithful Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Stuttgart and Chairman of the Ushers. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home and funeral services, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rebuilding Fund of the First Baptist Church, 2115 S. Prairie St., Stuttgart, Arkansas 72160. Maurine Simpson Willie Maurine Simpson, 90, of Stuttgart passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 8, 1918, near Brinkley, Ark., to William and Molly Dale Moody Wooten. She was a homemaker and member of Full Gospel Christian Church in Stuttgart. Survivors are her husband, Millard Simpson; son, Billy Simpson and wife Irma of Stuttgart; daughter, Gloria Hidle and husband Charles of Columbus, Ga.; two brothers, Bennie Wooten of Memphis, Tenn., and Billy Wooten of Alton, Ill.; three grandchildren, Marty Holfsted, Donna Baber and Andy Hidle; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Full Gospel Christian Church, 108 S. Columbus, Stuttgart, or the donor’s choice. Jennie Allen Jennie Maffioli Allen, widow of longtime Stuttgart Daily Leader managing editor Garner Allen, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock. She had been a city resident and actively involved in the community since 1951. Mrs. Allen was one of four daughters and six sons born to Italian immigrant parents. After being recruited by railroads in the early 1900s for employment in coal mines of the Choctaw Nation area of southeastern Oklahoma, her father and one of his brothers sent for their brides in Comabbio, Italy, and settled in Alderson. More than two dozen nationalities, principally from southern and eastern Europe were represented in the immigration. Reared in an Italian speaking home, Mrs. Allen was a 1941 graduate of Haileyville High School. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to take employment at United Bolt and Screw Company during World War II before returning to McAlester. Prior to her marriage, June 2, 1947, she managed a movie theatre concession stand and worked as a sales clerk and bookkeeper in a woman’s lingerie store. During her husband’s college years at the University of Oklahoma at Norman, she managed the laundromat serving Sooner City, a community of prefabricated dwellings inhabited by veterans of World War II. Following their move to Stuttgart after his graduation, she was employed as bookkeeper by Hilton Motors, and then was employed for 27 years at the Daily Leader as bookkeeper and circulation manager. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Her hobbies included bowling, fishing, bird watching, knitting and her exercise class at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. She was active in horsemanship and rodeo as well as baseball in her younger years. By participating in the fifth annual March for Parks in 1994, she was recognized as one of the top 25 fundraisers for the National Parks and Conservation Assoc. She was also recognized as one of the oldest members of the Grand Prairie Historical Society with over 50 years of service. Survivors include a niece, Carol Ann Mitchell of Los Angeles, Calif., who made her home with the Allens from her junior high through college years, and her husband Dick; one sister, Mrs. Toni Kramarich (George) of Mingo Junction, Ohio; and two great-nieces, Katherine Curto (Sean) and Michele Edwards and her daughter Amber; and her dear friend Marie Stephens, who is like family. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. A memorial service, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Post Museum, Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie or First Baptist Church.
