Marabeth McCollum
Marabeth Anne McCollum, 88, of Stuttgart died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Baptist Rehabilitation Institute in Little Rock. She was born Nov. 22, 1920 in Stuttgart to Paul and Gertrude “Goldie” Cummings.
Marabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Roy O. McCollum Jr.
She is survived by her children, Bunny Hartley and Roy O. McCollum III and wife Linda, all of Stuttgart. Her grandchildren are Todd Hartley and wife Marnie, Michael Hartley, Chantel McCollum and Natalie Wilks and husband Gary. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Heather and Harrison Hartley, Weston and Olivia Jane Wilks, Isabella Hartley and Lynley McCollum all of Stuttgart.
Marabeth’s peaceful presence, love and dedication to her family will be greatly missed. She always had a sweet smile on her face that could warm anyone’s heart. She had passionate love for her church being a very active member on Stuttgart First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She served as treasurer for many years for the Presbyterian Women of Stuttgart and she also served many years as an elder for Stuttgart Presbyterian Church. This past summer, Marabeth was awarded with the honorary life membership of Presbyterian Church Women Presbyterian U.S.A.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Tim Reeves, are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Stuttgart First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the burial.
The family requests memorials to Stuttgart First Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Seventh, Stuttgart, AR 72160.

Melvin Hickman
Melvin Marion Hickman, 83, of Ulm died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock.
Melvin was born Feb. 17, 1925, to Jewel and Effie Gregory Hickman in Blackton, Ark.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Synco Hickman; son, George Hickman; and daughter, Mickey Hickman.
Survivors are his three sons, Melvin D. Hickman of Ulm, Cecil G. Hickman (Irene) of Jewett, Ill., and Clem W. Hickman (Teressa) of Osceola; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Melvin worked with friend Wayne Clow on Sunshine Road for approximately 25 years then retired from Riceland Foods after 13 years of service.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Barbara E. Vester Owens
Barbara E. Vester Owens, 60, of Maumelle, formerly of Stuttgart, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 16, 2008, after an 11-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Barbara was born in Camden, Ark., on Dec. 27, 1947. She grew up and lived in the Ulm and Stuttgart area for many years where she was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. She and Rick Owens were married on Aug. 26, 1988, and made their home on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs for seven years before relocating to Maumelle.
She is survived by her husband, Rick Owens; daughter, Chrissy Barr (Jack) of Maumelle; and son, Carl Houvener (Christina) of Bee Branch. Also Barbara is survived by her step-son, Kris Owens (Stacy), and step-daughters, Susan Washa (Kevin) and Jennifer Boniedot (Dave), all of McKinney, Texas.
Barbara’s love and enthusiastic devotion to her grandchildren filled her life with joy, especially with abundant activities they shared at the family log cabin retreat. Her grandchildren are Renae, Erica and Nicole Barr and Teryn, Kalyn and Dayton Houvener; and step-grandchildren, Miranda and Abbie Owens, Kelby and Kylie Washa and Gracie and Rocco Boniedot.
Her parents, Leo and Virginia Chastain Vester of Ulm, preceded her in death.
Barbara’s pastime activities included creating scrap booking of family picture albums that became fabulous works of art full of cherished memories for all family members. This hobby carried her through numerous medical treatments. Her zest for life and love of family kept her spirits and courage high. Barbara, always with a smile on her face, radiated a positive attitude to all who knew and visited her during her illnesses.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the many caring doctors, nurses and hospice that cared for Barbara over the years and for the many prayers and support from friends.
To remember and celebrate Barbara’s life, the family will greet friends and relatives at visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Turpin Funeral Home, 1107 W. 22nd St., Stuttgart. Pastor Luke Conway of United Methodist Church of Maumelle will officiate at funeral services, which will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Turpin Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Ulm Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, Ark. 72207.

Kerry Eugene Inman
PINE BLUFF – Kerry Eugene Inman, 41, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at his home.
Kerry was born Jan. 24, 1967, in Stuttgart to Doyle E. and Loretta Dickson Inman. He was a graduate of DeWitt High School and spent much of his life in Arkansas County. Kerry was co-owner with his wife of A&I Recovery Service of Pine Bluff and former owner and operator of Inman Sand-Blasting.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elbert and Ruby Inman, Ora Lee Inman and Lyle and Arvilla Dickson.
Survivors are his wife, Stacy Alexander-Inman; their beloved pet, Rudy; his children, Korry Inman and Eli Inman of DeWitt; step-children, Rebecca Alexander and Steven Holland of Pine Bluff; his parents, Doyle and Muzette Inman of Stuttgart and Jerry and Loretta Wortham of DeWitt; two brothers, Stephen Inman of Little Rock and Toby Inman of Jacksonville Air Force Base; sister, Cindy Ponder of Stuttgart; two nephews, Dustin Ponder of Florida and Slayd Ponder of Stuttgart; and a step-grandmother, Emmie Harriett Dickson of Mississippi.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at New Life Fellowship in DeWitt with burial in Bayou Meto Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Church, 2009 S. Oak, Stuttgart, Ark. 72160, New Life Fellowship Church, Box 386, DeWitt, Ark. 72042, or the American Cancer Society.

Lloyd Irvin Shumard
FORREST CITY, Ark. – Lloyd Irvin Shumard, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab Center in Jonesboro.
Mr. Shumard was born March 5, 1922, in Stuttgart to Ralph and Ethel Evans Shumard.
He was a farmer and a Lutheran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Holland; and a brother, Leonard Shumard.
Survivors are his wife, Helen Marie Cox Shumard; one son, Keith Shumard of Paragould; one sister, Betty Shumard Baser; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Ulm with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until funeral time Saturday.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 525 Washington, Forrest City, Ark. 70335.

Augustine Brewer
Augustine Brewer, 82, of Stuttgart, widow of Will Arthur Brewer, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Spring Creek Nursing Home in Cabot.
Mrs. Brewer was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Arkansas to Tim and Cordilla Hawn Pembelton.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and had been a private sitter for over 35 years.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Sam Cross.
Survivors are two daughters, Carolyn Doles and husband James of Stuttgart and Dianne Cross of California; three grandchildren, MaShana Coburn and husband John of Ward, and Sam Cross Jr. and wife Ann and David Cross, all of California; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 402 E. 19th St., Stuttgart.
