Ronald Stephen Smith
Ronald Stephen Smith, 66, of Stuttgart died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 14, 1942, in New Orleans, La., to W.J. Smith and Juanita Gravett Smith. He was employed for Riceland Foods as a grain manager and retired after 37 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Michael Smith.
Survivors are his wife, Sara Holbert Smith; one son, Mark Allen Smith and wife Myra of Cabot; one daughter, Stephanie Nobles and husband Kevin of DeWitt; his mother, Juanita Smith of Stuttgart; two brothers, Terry J. Smith of Stuttgart and Phillip Smith of Harrisburg, Ark.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Harrisburg Memorial Cemetery in Harrisburg, Ark.

Billie Jo Davis
ALMYRA - Billie Jo Davis, 73, widow of Vance Davis Sr., went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 14, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Augusta, Ark., to Glen and Dessie Lee Poole. She was a homemaker, loving mother and a Baptist.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Survivors are four sons, Vance Davis Jr. and wife Tammie of Humphrey, Jackie Davis of Tucker, Robert Davis and wife Sara of Killeen, Texas, and James Davis and wife Dlynn of Blooming Grove, Texas; one brother, James R. Poole of Augusta; two sisters, Jerrie Lynn Smith of Lebanon, Tenn., and Lucille Oguin of Wynne; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.

B.J. Petrus
B. J. Petrus, 74, of Stuttgart died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his home. Mr. Petrus was born May 11, 1935, in Slovak to Andrew J. and Sophia Wargo Petrus. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Stuttgart Rotary Club. Mr. Petrus was a retired farmer and car dealer.
Mr. Petrus was chairman of the building committee for the Holy Rosary Parrish Center where he had worked so diligently and long hours to assure everyone expectations that the building had not only a good foundation, but was structurally sound as well. He also was responsible for starting the Cedar Tree Acres Hunting Club where he spent many happy hours teaching his sons and grandchildren about hunting and the outdoors in general.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Earlene Foster Petrus; three sons, Benny and wife Tammy Petrus and Dwayne Petrus, all of Stuttgart, and Steve and wife Leslie Petrus of Hazen; four grandchildren, Jonathan Petrus, Justin Petrus, Erin Petrus and Shannon Petrus; three brothers, Lewis Petrus of Gary, IN., Daniel and Betty Petrus of Pine Bluff and Andrew Wayne and Carolyn Petrus of Carlisle; seven sisters, Louise Van De Mark of Oklahoma City, OK, Ernestine Stevens of Nacogdoches, TX, Grace Rate of West Bend, WI, Judy Woodard of Dallas, TX, Mary Jo and Norman Chambers of Rogers, AR, Betty Sue Roberts of Ft. Worth, TX, and Rosie Parker of Garland, TX.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church by Monsignor John A. Janesko and Monsignor Jack Harris with burial in St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Slovak by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. Monday at the Holy Rosary Parish Center followed by the rosary at Holy Rosary Catholic Church beginning at 7 p.m.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Holy Rosary Parish Center or Arkansas Hospice, 2501 W. 28th St., Pine Bluff, AR.

Carol Dooley
Frances Carol Hudson Dooley, 56, of Stuttgart, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Baptist Medical Health Center-Stuttgart.
She was born Feb. 27, 1953, in DeWitt to R. C. and Frances Hudson. She was a Baptist and had worked for Mayflower Food Store in the Deli department for several years.
Preceding her in death was her father R. C. (Son) Hudson; a brother, Edward Hudson; and her grandmother, Rosie Brinker.
Survivors are her mother, Frances Hudson; husband, Kenneth Dooley of Stuttgart; one son, Jason Dwight Hudson of Stuttgart; three daughters, Stephanie Michelle Hudson Richardson of Stuttgart, Kimberly Dooley Guenther of DeValls Bluff and Alinor Dooley of Beverly, WV; four brothers, Robert Hudson and Gary Hudson, both of West Helena, David Hudson of Hot Springs and Richard Hudson of Dover, TN.; four sisters, Joyce Strain of Bayou Meto, Nancy Cooper of Pryor, OK., Ruby Martin of Lavaca and Paula Hammond of Stuttgart, eight grandchildren, Dwight Hudson, Chloe West, Kameran Hudson, Jamie Guenther, Paige Guenther, Rae Lynn Dooley, Jasmyne Dooley and Malachi Allen.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Todd Smith, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Missionary Baptist Church in St. Charles with burial following in St. Charles Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Paula Annette Hammond
Paula Annette Hudson Hammond, 44, of Stuttgart died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Hammond was born Nov. 6, 1964, in DeWitt to R.C. “Son” Hudson and Frances Scroggins Hudson. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School and attended PCCUA. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her father, brother, Edward Hudson; sister, Frances Carol Hudson Dooley; and grandmother, Roxie Brinker.
Survivors are her husband, Ronald J. “Buddy” Hammond; two stepsons, Chad Hammond of Poyen and Eddie “Bud” Kirchoff of Gillett; two stepdaughters, Devon Hammond of Malvern and Savannah Kirchoff of Gillett; mother, Frances Hudson of St. Charles; four brothers, Robert Hudson and Gary Hudson of West Helena, David Hudson of Hot Springs and Richard Hudson of Dover, Tenn.; and three sisters, Joyce Strain of Bayou Meto, Nancy Cooper of Pryor, Okla., and Ruby Martin of Lavaca.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Todd Smith, are 10 a.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church of St. Charles. Burial will follow in Gillett Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Ruth A. Bronson
Ruth A. Bronson, 86, of Humphrey, widow of Robert Bronson, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Bronson was born March 23, 1923, in Arkansas County to Johnny and Mae Henderson Owens. She became a private sitter following her husband’s death and was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bob; sister, Pauline; and brother, Homer.
Survivors are a son, Roy Bronson of Humphrey; one brother, R.C. Owens of Stuttgart; a sister, Francis Jones of Augusta; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Laura Ann Gurley King
Laura Ann King, 44, of Stuttgart died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at her home.
Laura was born Jan. 9, 1965, in Stuttgart to Lloyd Robert Gurley and Joan Marie Schultz Gurley. She was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and had been a cake decorator at Mayflower Foods before her heath declined.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors are her husband, John David King, and their children, John David King II and Ashley Marie King, all of the home; and her mother, Joan Gurley of Stuttgart.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lone Tree Cemetery chapel.

Donna Jean Cress
Donna Jean Cress, 74, of Beebe died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at White County Medical Center in Searcy after a recent illness.
Mrs. Cress was born Feb. 25, 1935, in Lodge Corner, one of five children born to Willis Hildebrand Sr. and Beatrice Bagwell Hildebrand. She attended a country school in Lodge Corner and was a graduate of Stuttgart High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Willis Hildebrand Jr.
Survivors are her husband of 56 years, Ronald Cress; two sons, Mark Cress of Little Rock and Dr. Randy Cress and wife Rita of Stuttgart; three sisters, Maxine Longnecker, Freda Faupel and Annabelle Barks, all of Stuttgart, six grandchildren, Kelly Cress of Lake Charles, La., Kerri Cress of Alexander, Brian Cress and wife Beth of Sherwood, Alyson Cress of West Memphis, Abby Cress of Stuttgart and Amanda Cress of Jonesboro; five great-grandchildren; and many other family members.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Turpin Funeral Home.
Her family requests memorials be made to the donor’s choice.
