Thelma Swain Thelma Leona Carter Swain, 81, of Stuttgart died Monday, June 1, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Swain was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Hunter, Ark., to Frank and Thelma Baker Patterson. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Jimmie Carter and Sigle Swain; granddaughter, Marnie Sears; brother, Cleo Patterson; and sister, Hazel Duch. Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Becky Carter of Stuttgart; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Joe Pyatte of Baytown, Texas; two grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Jones of Houston, Texas, and Clay Carter of Stuttgart; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation is 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home. The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. Elizabeth Rhein Elizabeth Irene Engler Rhein was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Fort Smith, AR., to Sam and Mary Gehring Engler. She passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Stuttgart. Elizabeth was married to Paul L. Rhein on Jan. 28, 1944, in Stuttgart. To this union, nine children were born. Mrs. Rhein was an expert seamstress and outfitted many bridal parties in the Stuttgart area. She was employed at Gibson’s in Stuttgart for eight years and worked for a time in an electronics factory. Mrs. Rhein also took care of children in her home for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stuttgart. Mrs. Rhein was preceded in death by her husband Paul on Nov. 25, 1999; her oldest son, David, in 2006; two grandsons, Louis Gerald Rhein and Jason Rhein; one granddaughter, Britney Denise Rhein; two great-granddaughters, Allyson Rhodes and Francesca Medrano; one sister; and four brothers. She is survived by seven sons, Robert (Bob) and Carol Rhein, Jonesboro, AR; John and Brenda Rhein, Ozark, AL; Jerry Rhein, Ron and Lyn Rhein, Larry and Tammy Rhein, Richard (Ricky) and Rhonda Rhein and Michael Rhein, all of Stuttgart; one daughter, Paula (Sissy) Funderburk of Horn Lake, MS; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Rhein of Mountain Home, AR, and Tillie Ellis of Rockwood, TN; and one brother, August Engler of Heber Springs, AR. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Larry Kelso, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Almyra Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Dennis Yelvington, the staff of Baptist Health Medical Center-Stuttgart and the staff of Crestpark of Stuttgart for their excellent care of Mrs. Rhein. Also, a special “thank you” to Mrs. Bea Smith, her roommate, for her care and concern. The family will be at the home of Ron Rhein. Joe Dean Stovesand Joe Dean Stovesand, 66, of Stuttgart died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Crestpark of Stuttgart. Joe was born Dec. 15, 1942, in Stuttgart to Clarence and Geraldine Carroll Stovesand. He attended Stuttgart High School and worked in the maintenance department at Comet Rice Mill. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors are his mother, Geraldine Stovesand of Stuttgart; and a sister, Mary Evans of Stuttgart. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lone Tree Cemetery chapel Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Stuttgart. Ustenia Morris Ustenia Elizabeth (Hoffpauir) Morris, 76, passed away Tuesday, June 2, at her home in rural Stuttgart. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 6, at 10 a.m. at Lone Tree Cemetery. Bro. Russell Chapman of the Stuttgart congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses will officiate. She was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Corsicana, TX, to DeWitt and Jo Ella Hoffpauir. She was a 1951 graduate of Stuttgart High School. She was married to Cleo (Bud) Morris in 1952. He died in 1991. She is survived by four children, Arthur Clinton Morris and his wife Janice of Aurora, MO, Freddie Joe Morris and his wife Kerri of Cabot, Adam Reed Morris of Stuttgart and Donald Eugene Morris and his wife Tina of Stuttgart. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Eddie Hoffpauir and his wife Sherry of Stuttgart. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Beverly Morris of Springfield, MO, Kristen Morris of Cabot, Cleo, Bambi and Danyelle Morris of Stuttgart and Jessica and Trent Morris of Stuttgart. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son, William. “Ms. Tena” was a longtime resident of Stuttgart. She had been a member of the Stuttgart congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1966. She worked at a number of convenience stores over the years, and was well known in the community. She loved working with the public. Most recently, she worked at Stuttgart One-Stop, and was well-liked by co-workers and customers. She loved her family, and especially her grandchildren. She collected elephant figurines, and enjoyed eating out with friends. Don E. Boehn Don Eugene Boehn, 62, of Stuttgart died Wednesday, June 03, 2009, at his home. Don was born Aug. 8, 1946, in Almyra to Jacob Frederick Waldo Boehn and Margaret Maneerd Boehn. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired from the construction department at Riceland Foods, Inc. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors are his wife, Barbara McSwain Boehn; one son, Bobby Don Boehn and wife Kristal of Slovak; two brothers, Calvin Wayne Boehn of Altheimer and Freddie Boehn of Stuttgart; three sisters, Sandra Lawrence of Stuttgart and Dorothy Blundell and Alice Hendrix, both of Almyra; four grandchildren, Chris Rankin, John Rankin, Tim Rankin and Katherine Coker; and two wonderful friends, John and Pam Drotar of Slovak. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home. Mildred Steed Mildred Anders Pickett Steed, 79, of Stuttgart died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Davis Life Center in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Steed was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Camden, Ark., to William John Pickett and Laura Mae Anders Pickett. An LPN, she previously worked at Stuttgart Memorial Hospital and retired in 1997 from Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James M. “Jim” Steed; sisters, Mavene Toll and Lorene Gaskin; and brothers, Hugh, Robert, Ray and Everett Pickett. Survivors are her son, James Terry Steed (Beverly) of Bryant; her daughter, Ginger Moore of Stuttgart; a brother, Charles Pickett of Camden; four granddaughters, Stacy Hazel (Paul), Shelly Arnold (Jason), Stephanie Steed and Malia Bogy (Phil); two great-grandsons, Gage Bogy and Henry Hazel; and a long-time companion, C.P. Kirkpatrick of Stuttgart. Private services and burial were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Mary Louise Newton Mary Louise Newton, born Nov. 6, 1919, went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2009, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mary Carle. Her ancestors were among the original settlers of Stuttgart. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald Newton; her sons, Dr. Doane Newton, M.D., and Elmer Newton; her son-in-law, Gary Langlais; one grandchild, Stephen R. Newton; and one brother, Wilfred Carle. She is survived by one son, Albert C. (Vivian) Newton of Springdale; two daughters, Donna Langlais of Little Rock and Margaret (Phillip) Smith of Harrisburg; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Jo Newton (widow of Doane) of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren, Ben Newton, Becka Gartner, Sissi Heathershaw, Roger Newton, Paul Newton, Jennifer Moore and Shawn Langlais; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Leland (Helen) Carle; and one sister, Elizabeth (Donald) Rabeneck. She was a life-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was past president, a charter member and membership chairperson of the Clara Kleinman Guild, and member of Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She was a homemaker and also worked in retail sales. At the time of her retirement she was an employee at Holiday’s in Stuttgart. She was a Retired Senior Volunteer Program volunteer for over 25 years and had worked at the blood mobile and food bank. She was also a fundraiser and Lights of Love chairperson for Stuttgart Regional Medical Center where she worked almost 1,000 volunteer hours. She was an avid quilt and afghan maker. She made numerous gifts for family and friends. She was an astute businesswoman and a loving mother and grandmother and a student of the Bible. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. James C. Walter and the Rev. David Riley, are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with burial following at Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart.
