R.C. Owens
R.C. Owens was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Almyra to John and May Henderson Owens and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2009.
He was a member of Almyra Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran. He was retired from Rice Research Experiment Station.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Homer Owens; and sisters, Pauline Teal and Ruth Bronson.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Maxine Owens; daughter, Sandra (Matthew) Ercanbrack of Tichnor; grandson, Joe Ercanbrack; and sister, Frances Jones of Augusta.
Graveside services, officiated by Bro. Ty Huitt, are 10 a.m. Saturday at Almyra Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

Chuck Hula
Charles Wesley “Chuck” Hula Jr., 65, of Stuttgart died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home in Stuttgart.
Chuck was born Dec. 19, 1943, in Hazen to Charles Wesley Hula Sr. and Anna K. Plafcan Hula, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and attended Ouachita Baptist University. He was former operator and owner of Pamplin Oil and Hula Oil Company in Stuttgart and member of First Baptist Church.
Chuck was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors and being with his family. He will be missed by his many friends.
Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Betty Jean Pamplin Hula; two daughters, Staci Hula of Stuttgart and Danika Shelton and husband Bryan of Jonesboro; two sisters, Charlotte Roth of Stuttgart and Betty L. Jones and husband Bill of Chambersburg, Pa.; one grandchild, Stephen Shelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 2115 S. Prairie St., Stuttgart, Arkansas 72160.

Robert Davenport
Robert Lee Davenport, 89, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at his home in Stuttgart.
He was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Monroe County, Arkansas, the son of William “Dick” and Ada Skelton Davenport. He was a retired assistant chief with the Stuttgart Police Department and a retired Arkansas County Sheriff’s deputy. He was a born-again Christian.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters and one grandson, Greg Johnson.
Survivors are his wife whom he married Dec. 24, 1941, Ernestine Chism Davenport; two sons, Robert Gene of Hot Springs and Donald (Nancy) of Jacksonville; three daughters, Frances Branham (Charles Johnson) of Alexander, Georgia Moore (Ron) of Batesville and Kay Knoll (Gary) of Stuttgart; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Sam Funderburg, are 11 a.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home.

Michael Jack Jones
Michael Jack Jones, 60, of Stuttgart died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mike was born April 25, 1949, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Billy Jack Jones and Leola Mae Krumpen Jones who preceded him in death. He was employed as a rice grader for the USDA. He was Catholic.
Survivors are son, Christopher Michael Jones of Texas; daughters, Michelle Davis of Oklahoma and Brooks Lawrence and Randi Riggs (Greg), all of Little Rock; live-in mate of 5 ½ years, Sandra Boehn; brother, Steve Jones (Ann) of Humphrey; two grandchildren, Mallory and Jacob Lawrence; and two special nephews, Colin and Cabel Ransom.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home with burial in Frazier Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Clarence Neal Sr.
Clarence Edward Neal Sr., 77, of Stuttgart died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Neal was born March 12, 1932 in Indian Bay, Arkansas to John Henry Neal and Florence Williams Neal. He was a retired farmer and plant operator, and was a Baptist.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Edward Neal Jr.; brothers, Frank Neal, Sam Neal, Ora Lee Neal, J.T. Neal and Lee Roy Neal; and sister, Alice Arras.
Survivors are his wife, Cleo Virginia Gilson Neal; son, John Amos Neal and wife Amanda of Stuttgart; daughter, Carolyn Annette Brown and husband Cecil of Humphrey; brothers, Paul Neal and wife Bonnie of Texas, and Earmon “Bud” Neal and wife Regina of DeWitt; sisters, Lenora Hallman and husband Daniel of DeValls Bluff, Florence Light and husband Clyde of Stuttgart and Anne Britt of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens at DeWitt.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Robert Bumpous Jr.
Robert Bumpous Jr., 77, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Bumpous was born May 3, 1932, in Union Hill, Ark., to Robert Bumpous Sr. and Jenny Davidson Bumpous. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a farmer and Baptist.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Bumpous; brother, Dub Bumpous; and sisters, Virginia McCann, Murlene Campbell and Connie Lincomfelt.
Survivors are his loving wife of 34 years, Jessie Allen Bumpous; sons, Joseph Grady Bumpous of Beebe and Dwight Neal Bumpous of Scott; daughter, Charlotte Craddock and husband Martin of Scott; step-daughters, Alice Johnson of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Pat Johnson of Portageville, Mo.; sister, Nina Hamlin of Kalamazoo, Mich.; brother-in-law, David Allen of Humphrey; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Elizabeth Rhodes.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Ralph Ruffin, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery near Clarendon.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Marguerite Lillian Kauffman
Marguerite Lillian Kauffman, 87, of Stuttgart died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at her home in Shoreview, Minnesota, where she had been living since 2007.
Mrs. Kauffman was born February 12, 1922, in Stuttgart. She had been an active member of First Christian Church and was married to the late Earnest Dean Kauffman.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Theodore Kauffman; four brothers, William Cobb, Woodrow Cobb, James Cobb and Clarence Cobb; and three sisters, Carrie Thompson, Ruth Wittman and Genevieve Locke.
Survivors are one son, Earnest Dean Kauffman Jr. of Wilton, Connecticut; one daughter, Lyndall Ruth Mertz and husband Paul of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Mary Carney and husband Tom of Shoreview, Minnesota, and Eric Mertz and wife Amy of Fair Lawn, New Jersey; and great-grandchildren, River Carney and Rose Carney.
Private graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 8, at Lone Tree Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, 911 S. Main St.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 7, at Turpin Funeral Home.

Kerry Helen Meehan Maier
Kerry Helen Meehan Maier, 51, of Stuttgart died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Kerry was born June 24, 1958, in Stuttgart to Richard Ward Meehan and Loretta Faye Watkins Meehan. Following graduation from Stuttgart High School, Kerry attended college in Evansville, Ind. After returning to Stuttgart, she was employed in the bookkeeping department at then First National Bank for over 13 years. She had also been employed at Wildlife Farms at Casscoe. Kerry was raised in and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, but most recently was attending First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Watkins and Margaret and O.B. Blackwell.
Survivors are her husband of 18 years, Joe Maier of Stuttgart; parents, Richard and Faye Meehan of Stuttgart; son, Justin Maier of Little Rock; daughter, Myra Duke and husband Mark and their children Haley and Hayden of Stuttgart; sisters, Pam Burdett (John Paul Shifflett), Laurie Tull (Wes Tull) and Kristi Murray; grandmother, Helen Watkins; father- and mother-in-law, Eldon and Otella Maier; niece, Nicole Casey; nephews, Taylor Burdett, Garrett Murray, Lukas Murray and Wade Tull; and great-nephew, Jaylon Casey.
A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Tim Reeves, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Stuttgart with visitation one hour before the service.
