Beryl W. Pullig
Beryl W. Pullig, longtime city resident died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at the local hospital after a long period of declining health. Her death came just 60 days shy of her 94th birthday.
Mrs. Pullig came to Stuttgart as a 16 year old. Upon graduating from Stuttgart High School she served an apprenticeship in the beauty shop of her Aunt Dolly located on Main Street at the site next to the Magnolia. In later years she resumed her career as a beautician at Rosenthal’s until opening her own shop attached to her home.
Mrs. Pullig took pride in growing flowers and watching birds as they visited her back yard sanctuary. Roses and cut flowers from her yard for years adorned tables at the annual May Day Breakfast held at First United Methodist Church where she was a devoted member.
Mrs. Pullig was predeceased by husbands, Lloyd T. Estes, killed in the North Atlantic during WWII, Clarence M. Traetow, Arthur H. Becker and Roy O. Pullig; son, Charles L. Estes; daughter, Malinda Kuley; and grandson, Henry Harold “Hank” Bennett III.
She is survived by two daughters, Norma (Mrs. Richard) Muller of Ocala, Florida, and Barbara (Mrs. James) McDaniel of Lake Providence, Louisiana; son, Herman C. Traetow of Elmira, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Mary V. Estes of Washington Court House, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren as well as a host of extended family members including Virginia (Wilson) and Paul Nedoroscik.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel led by Dr. David Bush, First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial is slated for Lone Tree Cemetery.
Memorial donations are suggested for St. Jude’s Children’s
Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tennessee 38101; Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children Way, Slot 661, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202-3591; or Animal Rescue League, 12 Bennett Road, Almyra, Arkansas 72003.

Maxine Curton Northcutt
VICTORIA, Texas - Maxine Curton Northcutt died Jan. 6, 2010. She was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Lanty, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Willie Krisell; brother, Wilborn Krisell; daughter, Sybil Curton; and her beloved pet, Marcy.
Maxine moved to Victoria in 1949. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a long-time employee of Bealls.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn Curton of Victoria, Texas, David Curton and wife Margie of Goliad, Texas, Larry Curton and Donnie Curton, both of Humphrey, and Ginger Johnson and husband Billy of Azle, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters; one brother; her very dear friend, Marguerite Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home in Victoria. A prayer services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday with visitation starting at 1 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas, Adopt-A-Pet, Twin Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation or the organization of your choosing.

Clara Starnes Simpson
Clara Starnes Simpson died Jan. 8, 2010, at age 94. She was born June 17, 1915, in Alexandria, La., to George Weldon Starnes and Susie Angeline Starnes.
She was employed at Riceland Foods, Stuttgart, for 35 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church-Stuttgart and after moving to Carlisle joined First United Methodist Church of Carlisle. She was a member of the UMW of Stuttgart and Carlisle and the Builders Sunday school class of Carlisle.
Miss Clara was known as a gentle, Southern lady with a heart full of love.
She was predeceased by her husband, Shelby R. Simpson; and granddaughter, Robbie Ferrari Allen.
She is survived by daughters, Audrey Ferrari (Victor) of Carlisle, Mary Sue Gurley (Mack) of Olive Branch, Miss., and Shelby Hillman (Tommy) of Carlisle; son, John Simpson (Scottie) of Memphis; two sisters, Helen Carle of Stuttgart and Lois Harvey of Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 417, Carlisle, 72024, or Open Arms Shelter, P.O. Box 161, Lonoke, 72086.

Virginia Louise Bednar
Virginia Louise Klemme Bednar, 82, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart.
She was born Aug. 27, 1927, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Walter and Julia Klemme. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Holy Rosary Altar Society.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Bednar; and a son, Elmer Bednar Jr.
Survivors are son, Ronald Bednar of Tavares, Fla.; brother, Walter Klemme of Illinois; sister, Betty House of Illinois; three grandchildren, Julia, Chris and Phillip Ross; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of friends.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery with visitation from 1-2 p.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home.

William Earl Anderson
William Earl Anderson, 58, of Stuttgart died Friday January 8, 2010, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Stuttgart.
Mr. Anderson was born on January 26, 1951, at Bayou Meto to Otho and Bertha Van Cleave Anderson. He was an electrician and a lifelong resident of this area.
Survivors are one son, Aaron Anderson and wife Michelle of Helena; one daughter, Becky Baser and husband Andy of Stuttgart; three brothers, Eddie Anderson of Stuttgart, Alvie Anderson of Kansas and Carl Anderson (Jena) of Stuttgart; six sisters, Alice Fields (Richard), Bessie Duch (Donnie), Betty Dubert, Willie Hodges and Sue Evans, all of Stuttgart, and Donna Anderson of Malvern; and four grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home.

Terri Suzanne Stone
Terri Suzanne Stone, 39, of Stuttgart passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart.
Terri was born June 2, 1970, in Stuttgart to Carroll and Rosemary Stagg Stone. She was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and member of Southside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard Stagg, Evelyn and Marvin Erstine and Arthur and Cora Stone; and brother, Blake Stone.
Survivors are her parents, Carroll and Rosemary Stone; brother, Dean Stone and wife Debbie of Stuttgart; sister, D’Ann Pierce and husband Chris of Benton; nephew, Christopher Stone; and nieces, Allison Stone, Christin Pierce and Cameron Pierce.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Gregg Greenway, are 10 a.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel. Private family burial will be in Bayou Meto Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.

L.D. Molock
L.D. Molock, 87, former Stuttgart businessman, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart.
Mr. Molock was born April 14, 1922, in Sherrill, Arkansas, to Carl and Susie Montgomery Molock. He was an Army Air Corps veteran serving his country during World War II. He and his wife Martine were former owners of The Mallard Restaurant.
He was a member of Euclid Masonic Lodge, Stuttgart Ruritan Club, Arkansas Hospitality Association and Stuttgart Band Parents and served as a PTA President. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Molock, an avid Razorback fan, enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of this garden with his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed visiting and having coffee with friends at the Mallard.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings.
Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Jimmie Martine Molock; son, Dennis R. Molock and wife Medie of Stuttgart/Lonoke; two daughters, Nan Molock of Stuttgart and Glenda Molock of Little Rock; and four grandchildren, Lindsay Molock, Logan Molock, Zach Benton and Lauren Engelkes.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with visitation prior to the service.
Local arrangements are by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
