Mildred Haleen Vester
Mildred Haleen Vester went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 6, 2010.
She was born July 26, 1915, in Baxter County to James and Mary Leanna Smith Hopson. Preceding her in death were her husband, Earl Vester in 1967; a daughter, Alberta Smith; grandson, Brett Lockhart; son-in-law, Artie Seidenschwarz; three sisters; and four brothers.
Haleen is survived by two daughters, Shirley Seidenschwarz and Earleen Lockhart (Dwight) of Stuttgart; one son, Ray Vester (Debbie) of Stuttgart; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ulm where her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. with burial following in Ulm Lutheran Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Monday, March 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, St John’s Lutheran School or to the donor’s choice.

Jerry Black
Jerry A. Black of Humphrey died Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Baptist Health-Little Rock due to complications from heart by-pass surgery.
Jerry was a lifelong member of the Humphrey community. He graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1955 where he excelled in football, basketball and track. He was a member of the Army National Guard for 20 years retiring as Company Commander of the 39th Support Battalion in Stuttgart. On occasion he would still be referred to as “Captain Black” by former members of his unit.
He was a member of the Arkansas Quorum Court for over 20 years and a member of the Auxiliary Sheriff Patrol of Arkansas County for over 25 years.
He was a lifelong member of Humphrey United Methodist Church, currently serving as lay leader.
Jerry never met a stranger and was always there when someone needed a helping hand. His smile, his hearty laugh and wonderful personality will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Thelma Black; and his brother, James Black.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Jeanne Black of Humphrey; six children, Allen Black and Sheri Flynn of Humphrey, Russell Black of Maumelle, Jon Black of Conway, Reyna Black of Virginia and Connie Voyles of Little Rock; his sister, Carol Sue Griggs of Humphrey; six grandchildren, Brittany Black, Kayla Black King, Haylee Black, twins Jack and Graham Voyles and Mary-Katherine Voyles.
A celebration of his life will be Sunday, March 21, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Humphrey United Methodist Church with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Humphrey United Methodist Church or the charity of donor’s choice.

John Jackson
John Walton Jackson Sr., 72, of Stuttgart died Friday, March 19, 2010, at Crestpark of Stuttgart.
Mr. Jackson was born June 30, 1937, in DeWitt to Floyd and Louise Shook Jackson. He was an Army veteran and retired as Quality Control Inspector at Lennox Industries. He was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Agnes Powell Jackson; one son, John Jackson Jr. (Penny) of Pine Bluff; four daughters, Paula Bracewell (Bill) of Almyra, Phyllis Jackson of Star City, Cathy Pettit (Bobby) of Conway and Bethany Smith (Darren) of North Little Rock; four stepchildren; two brothers, Charles Floyd Jackson (Shirley) and William Eugene Jackson (Barbara), all of DeWitt; six grandchildren; and 15 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. George Rook, are 2 p.m. Monday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church with burial in Crocketts Bluff Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.

Michael D. Dickson
Michael Dwayne Dickson, 31, of Stuttgart died Monday, March 22, 2010, at his home.
Michael was born February 5, 1979, in Little Rock. He was a 1997 graduate of Stuttgart High School and attended Henderson State University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Michael will be remembered for his kind, gentle soul, and his incredible love and care for others. He will be missed immensely by those whose lives he has touched. Michael will forever be loved and treasured in our hearts.
Michael, we love you dearly. Rest in the love and peace of your Savior and Lord.
Survivors are his parents, Robert and Cindy Homan Dickson of Stuttgart; grandparents, Robert and Lois Elaine Dickson of Stuttgart and Jack and Jackie Homan of Benton; brother, Robert L. Dickson Jr. and wife Tisa and their children, Cameron and Tyler of Stuttgart; three sisters, Jennifer, Laura and Amanda Dickson, all of Stuttgart; aunts and uncles, Nancy (David) Culp, Mendy (Mike) Traylor, Sherri (Billy) Goss, Tammy (Justin) Bethel; and many beloved cousins.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. David Bush, are 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday at 1 p.m. until service time at First United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 307 E. Fourth St., Stuttgart.

Mary Lou Cox
Mary Lou Cox, 86, of Stuttgart, widow of George C. Cox, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart.
Mrs. Cox was born March 22, 1924, in Almyra to Art and Maud Wright Burris. She was retired as a checker from Piggly Wiggly, and was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Stuttgart Church of Christ.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Lena Ford; brother, Bill Burris; and step-daughter, Catherine Cox Jacobs.
Survivors are two sons, Glenn “Sonny” Cox and wife Marilyn of Almyra and Dwight Cox of Stuttgart; daughter-in-law, Gail Red Cox of Hazen; sister, Maxine Burris Young of Stuttgart; four grandchildren, Leigh Cox Turner and husband Britt and their children Jaycie and Jake Turner of Hot Springs, Kristi Cox of Stuttgart, Marci Cox Miller and husband Jeff and their children Olivia Larson and Rally Miller of Springdale and Dax Cox of Hazen; and three step-grandchildren, Debbie Geise of Denver, Jan Jacobs of Houston and Mark Jacobs of California.
Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Joe Spangler, are 10 a.m. Monday at Turpin Funeral Home with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Turpin Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials to Stuttgart Church of Christ or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Linda Lee Hodges
HUMPHREY – Linda Lee Hodges, 51, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at her home.
Linda was born September 18, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio. She was secretary at Porky’s Flying Service and a Pentecost.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty M. Nisley Oliver; step-father, Sam D. Oliver; and a brother, Tim Oliver.
Survivors are two sons, Magnum Hodges of Stuttgart and Arron Adkins of West Virginia; one daughter, Rebeka Hartsog of Virginia; her father, Homer Preece Jr. of Ohio; three brothers, Gary Law of Alabama, Donald Law of Ohio and Mike Law of Turkey; five sisters, Kathy Toops, Rose Elgin, Cheryl Oliver, Mary Fowler and Brenda Rittenhouse, all of Ohio; three grandchildren, Austin Cole Hodges, Samuel Keith Hartsog and Noah Michael Hartsog; Magnum’s father, Porky Hodges of Humphrey; one step-son, John Michael Hodges of Casscoe; and two special friends and caregivers, Debra Davis and Phillip Austin.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Flynn Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice, 2501 w. 28th Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
