Gary Jon Pasquinzo Gary Jon Pasquinzo, age 71, of Mena, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009. He was born February 17, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan and was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janice Pasquinzo, his parents, the late Jon and Edna (Zadvorney) Pasquinzo, and one brother Keith Pasquinzo. Mr. Pasquinzo was the President and C.E.O. of Southern Disposal, Inc. of Mena for over 30 years, and a second location, established in 2004 in Centerton, Arkansas. During his career in public/commercial and residential sanitation he always thought of new ways to redefine waste disposal in Polk County and Northwest Arkansas. He also had a love for buying, restoring and dealing in classic cars. Mr. Pasquinzo was also a member of the Elks Lodge for over 30 years, where he had made many life long friends. Gary was of Catholic faith and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena, Arkansas. He is survived by; one daughter, Kelly Bonner and husband Rick of Mena, two sons; Patrick Pasquinzo of Mena, and Craig Pasquinzo and wife Hannah of Fayetteville, Arkansas; granddaughters, Laci Miner and husband Aaron of Mena, Lori Bonner of Mena, and Tiffany Flippen and husband Aaron of Texarkana, Texas, grandsons; Aaron Pasquinzo of Mena, and Max Pasquinzo of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and great-granddaughter, Kynlee of Texarkana, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers, Doug Pasquinzo and wife Mary of Butte, Montana and Jeffery Coe of Sarasota, Florida, and a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena with Father Norbert Rappold officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, May 31, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a Holy Rosary will be said immediately following visitation from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers and Honorary pallbearers will be the men whom Gary truly admired, respected, and loved, Karl Cunningham, John Crawford, Philip Hensley, Bob Carver, David Maddox and Jim Pittengoro. "LEE" SCHROEDER LEONA G. "LEE" SCHROEDER, age 84 of Mena passed away Sunday, May 24th in Mena. Survivors are: Son: Scott Schroeder and wife Chris of Emmett, Idaho. Robert Ernest Franz (January 29, 1965 - July 31, 2010) Robert Ernest Franz, age 45, of Mena passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 in Mena, Arkansas. He was born January 29, 1965 in Denver, Colorado to James Fredrick Franz and Janet Bruce Franz. He was married to Vicky Hueske. He was a veteran of United States Navy serving his country in the Persian Gulf and Operation Freedom. He worked as a field technician in the shipping industry. Robert was a loving husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew, and a friend to all who knew him. He was born November 19, 1921 in Greenfield, Oklahoma to the late James W. White and Mae Crawford White. He was united in marriage to Juanita Brown. Mr. White was a cattle farmer and was also a veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Thomas (July 11, 1922 - July 27, 2010) Mr. Willard M. Thomas, age 88, of Cove, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in Mena. He was born July 11, 1922 in Wickes, Arkansas to the late George Russell Thomas and the late Ova Retta Duckett Thomas. There, he attended a one-room school through 8th grade, and graduated from Gilliam High School. A veteran who served his country during World War II, Willard attended Magnolia A&M University and the University of Arkansas, majoring in Business, Electrical Engineering and Agricultural Sciences. He received his Masters Degree in Agricultural Education and pursued Doctoral studies in Mathematics at the University of Auburn. He briefly taught Vocational Agriculture, Chemistry and Physics at Taylor, Arkansas, then pursued a career with the United States Department of Agriculture, supervising Ports of Entry at the Us/Mexico borders. In 1950, he married Mollie Brantley, celebrating 61 years of marriage on January 22, 2010. After retirement, he moved to Cove, Arkansas, where he and Mollie have resided for the past twenty-five years. Willard was a dedicated Christian, and a member of the Baptist Church, and served a short time of Masonic service. He is survived by his wife, Mollie Thomas, sons Malvin Russell Thomas of Cove, Arkansas and Randal Kerry Thomas of Bailey, Colorado, grandchildren April Thomas Glasscock and her husband Jason of Cove, Arkansas and Jeremy Kamal Thomas and his wife Lauren of San Antonio, Texas, and his great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alyssa, Grace, Suzianna, Aiden and Kaylee. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ova Thomas, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Cove with Brother Marshall Boggs and Brother Barry Godwin officiating. Leslie Roy Lock (July 4, 1916 - July 26, 2010) Roy’s time on earth ended the night of July 25th, more than 94 years after his birth in Bristol, England in early July 1916. The only son of Fredrick and Emily Palmer Lock, he was raised with his three sisters, Kathleen, Gwen, and Phyllis, all of whom preceded him in death. The family immigrated to the United States in 1919 and shortly thereafter settled in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Roy was raised in a two bedroom home with no plumbing, a house that had been purchased from a Sears & Roebuck catalog. During his years at Glenbard High School, he played football, formed a band named the Night Owls with several friends, was active in the Boy Scouts, and worked a variety of jobs to help the family meet the economic challenges of the Great Depression. Unable to afford the cost of college, Roy gave up his dream of becoming an engineer. He obtained an entry level job at Sunbeam Corporation through a connection from his scouting activities. As a committed life-long learner, he enrolled in evening classes at the Walton School of Commerce and gained the knowledge necessary to successfully pass the exams required to become a Certified Public Accountant. His skills, coupled with hard work, enabled him to eventually become Controller of the company and a member of the Sunbeam Board of Directors. Upon his retirement at age 65, Roy and three close associates purchased the Seco/Warwick Industrial Furnace Division from Sunbeam and successfully managed that organization as an independent company until its eventual sale in 1987. Roy married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie McConnell, in 1938 and together they raised four children, all of whom survive, Terry (Lynne), Ken (Susan), Sharon Christopher (Harold), and Bill (Sally). A fifth child, David Lee, died within days of his birth. Following Marge’s death in 1981, Roy married Arlene McPherson Belanger in 1983 and became step father to her four children, Lynne Lock (Terry), Robert (Joan), James (Ellen), and Joy Belanger, all of whom survive. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren / step grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren / step great grandchildren. In 1961 the Lock family hosted an AFS exchange student and Roy always maintained contact with that “son”, Dr. Miguel Nadal of Valencia, Spain. Roy, a devout Christian, was actively involved as a Sunday school teacher, board member, and committee member of the several churches he joined during his lifetime, most notably at Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn. His civic activities included delivering meals for Loaves and Fishes until age 90, scouting leadership when his sons were scouts, and involvement with community and industry organizations. Following Arlene’s death in 2006, Roy moved from the Chicago area after having been an Illinois resident for 87 years. He spent time with son Ken Lock’s family in South Carolina, before completing his life’s journey with daughter Sharon Christopher’s family in Mena, Arkansas. Sharon and all members of her family provided loving care and support to Roy in his final months. Remembrances may be sent in Roy Lock’s name to the American Red Cross. The family will receive friends at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday, August 2nd. A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 3rd at Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday from noon till 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Karen Anne Munsil (October 9, 1950 - July 21, 2010) Karen Anne Munsil, age 59, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Hot Springs. She was born October 9, 1950 in New York City, New York to the late Bruce S. Munsil and the late Virginia Claisse Munsil. She was a service dispatcher for the telephone company and was of the Catholic faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by: Sisters: Ellen M. Estevens of Baton Rouge, Louisiana Norma M. Nordenstrom of Houston, Texas Son: Brien Edward Munsil and wife Akika of Houston, Texas Grandson: Dean Edward Munsil of Houston, Texas She was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena with Father Norbert Rappold as Celebrant. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery in Houston, Texas. A visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening, July 27th, at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary being said at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Mena Regional Hospice. Esther Lewis May (December 17, 1910 - July 13, 2010) Esther M. Lewis May, age 99, of Murphys, California, formerly of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Stockton, California at the Golden Living Center – Port Side. She was born December 17, 1910 in Big Fork, Arkansas to the late Elihugh and Ara (Goss) Morphew. She was raised in Big Fork and married George “Jack” Lewis in the late 1920’s. They lived in various locations in Arkansas, also living for short periods in Oregon and California, as Jack worked as a foreman in the sawmill industry, including “Forester” which was a sawmill community near Waldron, Arkansas. After jack’s retirement in the mid-1960’s, Esther and Jack moved back to Mena, Arkansas. Jack died in March, 1974. Esther later met and married Calvin May of Mena in October, 1975. Calvin preceded her in death in May, 1996. Esther moved to California in 1997 to be near her children and grandchildren, where she remained until her death. Esther was a member of the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church of Mena for many years and a homemaker. In addition to her parents and husbands, Jack and Calvin, she was preceded in death by; daughter, Lorene Bravo, brother, Audrey Morphew and nephew Ovid “Cowboy” Morphew. She loved to crochet, making hundred of doilies over the years and giving many of them to her family. She always had a smile on her face for everyone. She is survived by her son, George “Blake” Lewis of Murphys, CA; granddaughter, Donna Lewis of San Jose, CA; grandson, Lance Lewis, George and Dennis Bravo of San Jose, CA and Ron Bravo of Murphys, CA; 3 great-grandsons and 6 great-granddaughters; her sister, Joyce Jesse of Greenwood, AR; sisters-in-law, Allie May of Mena, AR, Evie Johnson and Delsie Campbell of Springfield, OR, and Elsie Rowton of Gustine, CA; brothers-in-law, Floyd Cox of OR and Odis “Doc” May and his wife Lucille of Mena; and her “Arkansas Kids” – her nieces and nephews, Betty Hunt of Mansfield, AR, Roberta Sutter of Huntington, AR, Ken Jesse of Mansfield, AR, Darrell Morphew of Mena, Arkansas, Alton Morphew of Texarkana and Roland Morphew of Queen City, TX. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews by whom she was loved very dearly. Esther was cremated under the direction of Angels Memorial Chapel of Angels Camp, CA. A private family memorial and interment of her ashes will be held, Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Big Fork, AR under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Robert Dale Piedfort (September 3, 1942 - July 9, 2010) Robert Dale Piedfort, age 67, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Friday, July 09, 2010 in Mena. He was born September 3, 1942 in Wayne Michigan to the late Robert Pascual Piedfort and Lois Brown. He was married to Dellena McLemore. He worked in sales, selling HAM radios and equipment. He served his country in the United States Navy. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by: Wife: Dellena Piedfort of the home.
