Joe Marquis Roark
(September 16, 1956 - August 19, 2010)
Mr. Joe Marquis Roark, age 53, of Grannis, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2010 in DeQueen.
He was born September 16, 1956 in Peru, Indiana to the late Radford R. Roark and the late Ladell Morris Roark. He was united in marriage to Sheila R. Gillespie. Joe was a Human Resources Manager at Tyson and was a member of the Whole Council Church of God. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, but in Joe’s 53 years on this earth, Jesus was his first love.
He is survived by:
Wife: Sheila Roark of Grannis, Arkansas
Daughter: Stephanie Baker of Hatton, Arkansas
Son: Michael Bawden and wife Lisa of Vandervoort, Arkansas
Grandchildren: Freedom Bawden of Grannis, Arkansas Michael Bawden, III of Vandervoort, Arkansas Kala Harwood of Vandervoort, Arkansas
Brother: John Roark and wife Teresa of Greenville, Mississippi Sister: Stella Roark of Grannis, Arkansas
He was preceded in death by his parents, Radford and Ladell Roark, and a sister, Louetta Sherrouse.
Graveside services will be Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 10:30 a. m. at the Whole Council Church of God Cemetery with Sister Jean Maechler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Saturday evening, August 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Smalley, David Smalley, Donny Craft, John Craft, Buzz Gagnon, Henry Ewing, John Harper, and Tim Whitener. Honorary pallbearers are James Case, Byron Ward and Powell Aulds.

Hazel Gorden Smith
(September 14, 1918 - August 18, 2010)
Mrs. Hazel Gorden Smith, age 91, of North Little Rock, formerly of Mena, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in North Little Rock . She was born September 14, 1918 in Rocky, Arkansas to the late David Anderson Gorden and the late Nellie Abernathy Gorden. She worked at Dillard’s for 40 years and was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Smith was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by: Daughters: Sandy Brawner of Wynne, Arkansas Lynda Lewis and husband, Wayne, of North Little Rock, Arkansas Grandchildren: Jeff Justice of North Little Rock, Arkansas Keith Justice and wife, Angela, of North Little Rock, Arkansas Ashley Duncan and husband, Pete, of Wynne, Arkansas Erin Oguin and husband, Russ, of Wynne, Arkansas Great-Grandchildren: Dustin, Brock, and Brooklyn Justice, Luke Chapman, Rylee and Parker Duncan, Grant Oguin, Payton Justice, and Nicole Rodriguez. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Nellie Gorden, her husbands Orville Kenneth Banning and Jewel V. Smith, her sister Rena Ott, and infant son. Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2:00 p. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Ron Tilley officiating. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home prior to service. Pallbearers will be Russ Oguin, Pete Duncan, Wayne Lewis, Mitch Sykes, Rick Evans, and Terry Terrell.

Anna Sue Brown
(January 4, 1943 - August 16, 2010)
Anna Sue Brown, age 67, of Benton, Arkansas, formerly of Cove, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010. She was born January 4, 1943 in Cove, Arkansas to the late Charles Youmans and the late Bertha Roberts Youmans. She was united in marriage until his death to the late John E. “Charlie” Brown. Anna was a retail clerk by profession and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by:
Sons: Kenneth Santos and wife Maria of Cabot, Arkansas Joel White and wife Cindy of Texas Wendell White of Slidell, Louisiana George Santos and wife Rose of California Frankie Santos and wife Leona of Washington State
Daughters: Babe Tyree and husband Lane of Washington State Pat Kriletich and husband Tony of California Darlene Harbison and husband Bob of Oregon
Brother: Tony Youmans and wife Deb of Hatfield, Arkansas
Sister: Betty Blake of Hatfield, Arkansas Dot Hooper and husband Tommy of Mena, Arkansas Peggy Lucero and husband Danny of Springdale, Arkansas 19 grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bertha Youmans, former husbands, Joel White, Sr., Frank Santos, and John Brown, a son, Tony Santos, and a grandson, Philip Sramek.
Graveside services will be Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 a. m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove with Grand Nephew Pastor Miles Callahan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, August 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mike Callahan, Henry Callahan, Danny Lucero, Joe Lucero, Tommy Woods, and Tim Woods

Mavis Jean Griffin
(January 27, 1955 - August 12, 2010)
Mavis Jean Griffin, age 55, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was born on January 27, 1955 in Mena, Arkansas to the late David G. Griffin and the late Wilma R. Hooper Griffin. She served her country in the United States Navy. Mavis was a loving sister and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by:
Sisters: Barbara Vickers of Escondido, California Janita Bliss of Mena, Arkansas, Dorthy Mitchell of Bella Vista, Arkansas
Brother: David Wesley Griffin of Smithville, Oklahoma
A host of friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Wilma Griffin.
Ms. Griffin was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Wilma Lee Russell
(October 13, 1926 - August 11, 2010)
Mrs. Wilma Lee Russell age 83, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010 in Mena.
She was born October 13, 1926 in Acorn, Arkansas to the late Marion Ellison and the late Cordelia Mae Smallwood Ellison. She was united in marriage to the late Harold Lloyd Russell. She was a member of the Harmony Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Russell was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by:
Sons: Harold R. Russell of Osceola, Arkansas Darrell G. Russell of Van Buren, Arkansas Joseph M. Russell of Monnette, Arkansas
Daughters: Mona L. Symonds of Hartford, Arkansas Nancy A. Horn of Danville, Arkansas Kammie G. Sweeten of Mena, Arkansas Sister: Eunice Huckaby of California
13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Cordelia Ellison, her husband Harold Lloyd Russell, and two brothers, Edwin Ellison and Hezekiah Ellison.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 3:00 p. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Elder Charles Holmes and Elder Dennis Horn officiating. Interment will follow in Board Camp Cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p. m. prior to service.

Donald Edward Rook
(February 2, 1935 - August 10, 2010)
Donald Edward Rook, age 75, of Mena passed away August 10, 2010 in Mena, Arkansas. He was born February 2, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edward Rook and Ruth Strouse Rook. He was married to Kathy Colagio on September 7, 1985.
Don was known for his love of Chryslers. He was a member of the Chrysler 300 Club and his favorite car he owned was his 1965 yellow convertible Chrysler 300. He had his cantankerous ways but always loved meeting people and making friends wherever he was. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to work outside, building trails, cutting wood, and keeping the grounds up at the Raspberry Manor Bed and Breakfast that he and his wife, Kathy owned and operated. Some of Don’s hobbies included his collecting cars, license plates, one of a kinds, turtles and ducks. He was very proud of his car collection. Also Don was an avid NASCAR fan and always rooted for the underdog.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ruth Rook; one son, Steven Andrew Rook; and two daughters Christiann Rook and Janice James.
He is survived by Kathy Rook of Mena; two sons Bradley Rook and companion Anita of Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania, Scott Rook and wife Meg of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, one daughter Tami Key and husband Fred of Mena, Arkansas; two step-sons Ronald Colagio and wife Deanna of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania and Kevin Colagio of Rochester, New York; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandson and a host of other friends.
Memorial service will be held September 18, 2010 at 1:30 P. M. at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Gary Harrison officiating. Cremation services are entrusted to Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Don Rook/Janice James Scholarship Fund through Mena Regional Hospital Foundation, P. O. Box 1526, Mena, Arkansas 71953.

Billy "Speedy" James Buckley
(June 15, 1967 - August 7, 2010)
Billy “Speedy “ Buckley age 43 of Mena died Saturday, August 07, 2010 at the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. He was born on Thursday, June 15, 1967 to James Leroy and Rebecca Ann Deramus Buckley in Mena, Arkansas.
Speedy loved his family and loved to spend time with his dad before his passing. He also enjoyed the simple things in life and never wanted much in life. He was a metal scrapper and enjoyed going around to several local businesses in town and picking up the scrap metal. Like Speedy always said, “Metal is money!” He also loved to go camping, fishing, going to yard sale and raising his garden. Speedy had his first kidney transplant in 1979 at age 12 and his second transplant seven years later at the age of 19. He was very thankful and proud to get to feel better. Another accomplishment that Speedy was proud of was graduating from Mena High School in 1985.
He is preceded in death by his father James Buckley.
Survivors include his mother Becky Buckley of Mena; two brothers and sisters in law Rick and Tammy Langley of Shady and Tim and Bridgett Buckley of Mena; one niece Anna Buckley of Mena; two nephews Ty Langley of Shady and Isaac Buckley of Mena; several aunts and uncles, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 10:00 A. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery in Potter. Visitation will be Monday, August 9, 2010 from 6-8 P. M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Rick Langley, Bob Garrison, Kevin Nault, Chris Lee, Steve Belcher and Mile Totty.

Ruth Blemmel
(April 30, 1927 - August 6, 2010)
Ruth Blemmel age 83 of Mena died Friday, August 06, 2010 at her home. She was born on Saturday, April 30, 1927 to Mitchel Beauregard and Etta McGinnis White in Snyder, Arkansas.
Mrs. Ruth loved many things in her life here on this earth and the greatest of these was the Lord. He came first in her life and served Him with her whole heart. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, but served her local congregation at the First United Methodist Church in Mena. The second love in life was her family, her husband Earl, her children and especially her grandbabies. She loved spending time with them. She also loved to travel, go shopping, watch the shows in Branson and cheer on the Razorbacks. She enjoyed reading and cooking. Mrs. Ruth was a very humble and gracious person and when she saw a need of someone less fortunate she always find a way to help or lend a hand. She was a true patriot and liked to say “If you’re lucky enough to live in the country, you’re lucky enough!” She was a very strong person and showed great integrity, honor and dignity during her life when she had a burden to bare; this was one of the greatest attributes that Mrs. Ruth had.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband A. O. Garner; two brothers Perry White and Steve White and three sisters Oca Gibbs, Jean McCoy and Cora Myrtle White.
Survivors include her husband Earl Blemmel of the home; three daughters Judy Burn and her husband Max of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Derenda Thieke and her husband Roy of Texas and Cindy Turner of Rockwall, Texas; two brothers Mitchel White and his wife Elise of Hamburg, Arkansas and Wayne White and his wife Barbara of Maynard, Arkansas; four grandchildren Blain Burn and his wife Lisa of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Eric Burn of Konawa, Oklahoma, Kyle Turner of Euless, Texas and Erin Turner of Houston, Texas; three great grandchildren Sydney, Hallie and Danner Burn of Skiatook, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 10:00 A. M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena with Rev. Gary Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 P. M. in the Rest Hills Cemetery in North Little Rock under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena. Visitation will be Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel.
Pallbearers at the church in Mena will be Kyle Turner, Blain Burn, Tony Mosier, Leroy Thomas, Stokes Herod and Alan Garner. Pallbearers at the Rest Hills in North Little Rock will be Bob Garner, Alan Garner, Kyle Turner, Blain Burn, Harold Cullin and Tony Mosier.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Karen Mosier, Pat Blemmel and Richard Blemmel, Jan Puckett, Mitchel White, Wayne White, Kevin White, Jeff McCoy, Ken McCoy, Eric Burn and Max Burn.

Sanford M. "Sam" Lehmann
(November 25, 1917 - September 28, 2010)
Mr. Sanford M. “Sam” Lehmann, age 92, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in Mena. He was born November 25, 1917 in Melrose, New Mexico to the late August Frank Lehmann and the late Eva Porter Lehmann. He was united in marriage to Doris Bennett Lehmann. Sam was a farmer and was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country as a Seabee during World War II. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by:
Son: Stanley Eugene Bennett of Mena, Arkansas
Daughters: Judy McCoy of Caddo Mills, Texas Sharon Rostollan of Mena, Arkansas
Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Eva Lehmann, his wife Doris Lehmann, a son, Archie Lehmann and several brothers and sisters.
Graveside service will be Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 2:00 p. m. at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Rocky, Arkansas. Interment will follow under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
