Hansel Delon McLain (August 27, 1926 - September 27, 2010) Mr. Hansel Delon “Hank” McLain, age 84, of Hatfield, Arkansas, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at his home. He was born August 27, 1926 in Hatfield, Arkansas to the late William McLain and the late Ola Parsons McLain. He was united in marriage to Rose Marie Haider on September 20, 1965. Hank was a truck driver, a cattleman and was the former owner and operator of McLain’s Drive-In in Hatfield. He was also a veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Hank loved raising mules, donkeys and horses and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by: Wife: Rose McLain of the home Sons: John McLain and wife Jessica of Cove, Arkansas William McLain and wife Darla of Hesperia, California Daughter: Heidi Dixon and husband Brian of Cove, Arkansas Brother: Arthur McLain of Plunkettville, Oklahoma 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ola McLain, a brother, Harold McLain, and a sister, Marcelle Dority. Memorial services will be held graveside on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 11:00 a. m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Cove with Brother Herb Shreve officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene following the service. Hazel Knoop Monaghan Rutell September 26, 2010 Hazel Knoop Monaghan Rutell age 93 of Mena died on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at her home. She was born in Peotone, Illinois. Hazel loved the Lord and had expressed her desire to be with him. Hazel moved to Mena in 1970 with her husband Ted Monaghan, having lived in Michigan, California, Maine, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Illinois, working personally for Henry Ford in the Ford Dealerships. After retiring, they settled in Mena to own a cattle and horse ranch near the Ouachita River. Ted died in 1985. She and Woodrow Rutell married in 1995 and called Mena her home. She loved and was loved by the people she met and always welcomed them into “her family”. She was active in many of the local women’s clubs, including the Lioness Club. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and an adult Sunday school teacher for many years. Hazel’s love for horses and animals led her to a very active role in “For the Sake of Animals”. Hazel was preceded in death by her husbands Ted Monaghan and Woodrow Rutell; her parents, William and Freda Knoop; two sisters Loraine Seeman and Florence Thompson; two brothers Maurie and Ahron Knoop. Hazel was a treasured sister to Shirley Yowell, Fern Jones and brother George Knoop. She was a very special aunt to many nieces and nephews in the Knoop, Monaghan and Rutell families. A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church in Mena Tuesday afternoon September 28, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. with Dr. Lamar Austin of the Grace Bible Church and Reverend Gary Harrison of the First Methodist Church of Mena officiating. She will be buried in Armory, Mississippi by the Pickle Funeral Home beside her first Husband Ted Monaghan in Providence Cemetery in Nettleton. Local arrangement entrusted to Hall Funeral Service in Mena. Horace N. Denny (March 28, 1919 - September 26, 2010) Horace N. Denny age 91 of Mena died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at his home. He was born on Friday, March 28, 1919 to Jesse Wade and Virginia Tisdale Denny in Oak Hill, Oklahoma. Horace served his country during World War II in the United States Army in the 162nd Infantry in the South Pacific. He was very proud of his military service. Horace was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was his most prized possession and treasured his 35 years of marriage to his wife, Elizabeth. Horace had a very good work ethic and retired from General Mills in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 72. There he was a foreman over the Buggel Chips System. He was at that time the oldest retiree ever to retire from the company. The last day the company threw him a party that lasted all day; this was one of Horace’s greatest accomplishments. He loved to hear his wife play the piano and the harmonica. He also loved restoring old antique cars and going to antique shops. Horace was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mena. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son Butch Denny. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Denny of the home; one son Terrell Hebert of Tampa, Florida; three daughters Reva Jo Wood of Hot Springs, Eva Poole of Branson, Missouri and Rebecca Estes of Lenoir City, Tennessee; two sister Verna Mae Ramsey of Little Rock and Gladys Adams of Seco, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, 2010 at 2:00 P. M. at the First Baptist Church in Mena with Dr. David McCord officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel. Pallbearers will be Jacob Lowery, Bob Ramsey, Randall Adams, James Lynn, E. Wayne McDaniel and Don Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jared Estes, Jordan Estes and Christopher Hebert. Wikel (July 7, 1929 - September 26, 2010) Mr. Orville L. Wikel, age 81, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 in his home. He was born July 7, 1929 in Cleveland, Oklahoma to the late Daniel Wikel and the late Westin Morris Wikel He was married to Eula Green Wikel. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 31 years as a Carmen. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a friend to all who knew him. He is survived by: Wife Eula Wikel of the home Son: Jerry Wikel of Cove, Arkansas Daughters: Cheryl Wikel of Mena, Arkansas Lanette Howell of Sacramento, California Brother: Lester Wikel of Tahlequah, Oklahoma Five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Westin Wikel, two grand-daughter, Shana Marie Wikel and Jennifer Lee Wikel. Mr. Wikel was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Reverend Andrew Lewis Davis (March 5, 1911 - September 25, 2010) Rev. Andrew Lewis Davis, formerly of Rapid City, SD, passed away Saturday, September 25, in Mena, AR, at the age of 99. A veteran of the U. S. Marines in the Pacific campaign of World War II, he will be interred in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Rev. Davis served for more than 60 years as a pioneer mission pastor and missionary to the American Indians. He was the first Southern Baptist missionary to the Sioux Nation. During his career he was responsible for starting more than two dozen churches and missions in California, Washington, Idaho, Montana and South Dakota. In 2006, at the age of 95, he published his memoirs, The Tapestry of a Life. He was also author of two books of poetry, Songs of the Soul and More Songs of the Soul. He was born March 5, 1911, in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas, to William Lewis and Maggie Cumi Harris Davis. He was married November 2, 1935, to Gladys Owens who preceded him in death in 1967. He married a second time, in August 11, 1971, to Jewel Viola Anderson, who passed away in 2001. That same year he married her sister, Opal Yankie. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Smith Britton, William Owen and George Franklin Davis. He is survived by his sister, Gladys Gardner of Prescott, AZ, brother Warren Wayne Davis of Los Angeles, CA, sons Robert Lewis and William Owen Davis, both of Mena, adopted daughter Eunice Mae Abrams, of Oklahoma, and step-daughter Joy Byers of Nashville, TN, as well as grandchildren Lorien Ailese Haavik, Columbia, MD, Elizabeth Ann Davis, Mena, Lori Ann Potter, Roundup, MT, Jeffrey Sutton, Tacoma, WA, and Cassandra, William and Andrew Abrams of Oklahoma and Montana. He is also survived by his third wife, Opal Davis, of San Antonio, TX, and her children, Gay Sidarous, San Antonio, Nancy Sidarous, Waco, and Wayne Yankie, Nashville. Funeral services will be 10:30am Thursday, September 30, at Rapid Valley Baptist Church in Rapid City, SD, a church founded by Rev. Davis and for which he served as Pastor Emeritus. Local arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Service in Mena. Marilyn Sue Gilson (April 18, 1935 - September 25, 2010) Marilyn Sue Gilson age 75 of Wickes died Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Thursday, April 18, 1935 to Chester Arthur and Theo Mae Keith Lewis in Elk City, Kansas. Marilyn loved many things in life; one was her Lord, next was her family and the next cooking. Marilyn served 18 years at the Panther Creek Christian Church near Watson Oklahoma and loved serving there with her church family. She was involved in the Women for Jesus Ministry and loved the fellowship of these ladies. Next was here family; she loved spending time with her husband and children and grandchildren and they were one of her greatest accomplishments. She enjoyed cooking them big meals and watching them eat what she prepared. She had a couple special dishes; making meatballs was her specialty and banana bread came in a close second. Marilyn was a hard worker and always held a job from working at Bogg Springs Baptist Camp to working in the Wickes School System cafeteria cooking for all the children. She also enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent seamstress. She is preceded by her parents; two brothers Richard Lewis and David Lewis and one grandson Luke Strang. Survivors include her husband Bill Gilson of the home; four daughters Anita Pyle of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Robin Lees and her husband David of Fairfax, Iowa, Elizabeth Strang and her husband Bob of Burleson, Tennessee and Judy Winters of Covington, Tennessee; one brother Kirk Lewis and his wife Gloria of Neodesha, Kansas; four sisters Erma Tattershall and husband Ronnye of Independence, Kansas, Maurita Miller and husband Richard (Dick) of Rolla, Missouri, Linda Bloomquist of Dover, Tennessee and Janice Ballenger and Husband J. E. (Pete) of Overbrook Kansas; ten grandchildren William Lees of Lock Haven Pennsylvania, Daniel Lees of Des Moines, Iowa, Jedidiah Pyle of Ida, Arkansas, Bethany Vega of Tallahassee, Florida, Chellsey Pyle of Heber Springs, Daniel Winters, David Winter and Amber Winters all of Covington, Tennessee and Matthew and Mark Strang of Burleson, Tennessee; five great grandchildren Jaren Mills, Alex Pyle, Luke Pyle, Allison Pyle and Braxton Pyle; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10:00 A. M. at the Panther Creek Christian Church near Watson, Oklahoma with Pastor Cody McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in the Panther Creek Cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel. Pallbearers will be Clifford Fairless, Clancey Fairless, Henry Bruce, Edwin Bruce, Donnie Evans and Curtis McDaniel. John Warren Simmons (April 23, 1979 - September 23, 2010) Mr. John Warren Simmons, age 31, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away September 23, 2010 in Waldron. He was born April 23, 1979 in Huntington, Indiana to the late Steven K. Simmons and Linda Musgrove Simmons Stovall. His greatest hobby was fishing and he was of the Baptist faith, John was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Stubblefield, age 78, of Shady, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at her home. She was born September 27, 1931 in Westfield, New York to the late Roland Oliver Bird and the late Ruth Eloise Card Bird. She was united in marriage to Garland Stubblefield. Alice was a homemaker and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where she served as clerk for 11 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by: Husband: Garland Stubblefield of the home Children: James R. Stubblefield and wife Barbara of Sherman, Texas Gracye Moss and husband Billy of Mena, Arkansas Sharon Fortson and husband James of Austin, Texas Sister: Doris Czeizinger of Pickens, South Carolina Grandchildren: James, Stacey, Bradley, Benny, Joseph, Amy, Kimberly, Rosa, and Diana. 12 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, September 24, 2010 at 2:00 p. m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Brother Michael Crump officiating. Interment follows in Shady Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, September 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be James R. Stubblefield, Billy J. Moss, James W.
