Florene Singleton
(February 1, 1921 - December 21, 2010)
Florene Singleton, age 89 of Dodge City, Kansas, formerly of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in Dodge City.
She was born February 1, 1921 in Oden, Arkansas. She was the first daughter born to John Calvin and Ova Singleton. She was married to the late Owen E. Singleton. Owen and Florene resided in Arkansas till moving to Wichita, Kansas in 1956. There she worked as a nurse’s aide doing hospital work and private duty nursing. After retiring, they moved back to Arkansas, where she lived until 2005 when she moved to Dodge City, Kansas.
She is survived by:
Son: Jerry Singleton of Mena, Arkansas
Daughters: Marcy Sanders of Dodge City, Kansas Teressa Newlin of Little Rock, Arkansas
Brother: Joffree Singleton of Wichita, Kansas
11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ova Singleton, and two sisters, Lois Singleton and Mary Fryar.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 27, 2010 at 2:00 p. m. at Cherry Hill Methodist Church with Brother John Newlin and Brother Jeremy Newlin officiating. Interment follows in Brushy Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening, December 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lane Titsworth, Ethan Davis, Tim Singleton, Seth Singleton, Adam Newlin and Clayton Newlin.

Ruby L. Staggs
(February 6, 1932 - December 21, 2010)
Mrs. Ruby L. Staggs, age 78, of Waldron, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 in Mena.
She was born February 6, 1932 in Howe, Oklahoma to the late Joseph Levi Sanders and the late Dora Kendrix Sanders. She was united in marriage to Gene Staggs. Ruby was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by those who loved and knew her.
She is survived by:
Husband: Gene Staggs of the home
Daughters: Shirley Helton of Waldron, Arkansas Peggy Sosebee of Lavaca, Arkansas Judy Heath of Mena, Arkansas Sherry Gilbert of Mena, Arkansas
Brother: Warran Sanders of Oklahoma 15 grandchildren and their spouses and 17 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dora Sanders, a son, Jerry Staggs, and 6 sisters and 1 brother.
Graveside services will be Friday, December 24, 2010 at 2:00 p. m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery with Brother Mike Shaddon officiating
A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, December 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Gladys P. Hamilton
(October 7, 1915 - December 20, 2010)
Gladys P. Hamilton, age 95, of Mena, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 in Mena.
She was born October 07, 1915, in Big Fork, Arkansas to the late Elijah and Elfie Liles Putman. She was a homemaker. She was a loving sister, aunt and a friend to all who knew her and loved her. She will be missed.
She is survived by:
Sister: Hortie Reed and husband Rod of Eugene, Oregon
Nieces: Ruth Williams and husband Roger of Mena, Arkansas Judy Sanders and husband Larry of Mena, Arkansas Pat Parker of Milwaukee, Oregon Barbara Putman of Eugene, Oregon
Nephews: Jack Walrath and wife Connie of Portland, Oregon Bill Putman of Portland, Oregon
Many great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Elfie Putman, husband, Albert Hamilton, brothers Burl Putman and Ralph Putman
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10:00, Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother David McCord officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Family and friends visitation will be Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p. m.
Pallbearers are Steve Crumpler, Claude Foster, Griff Liles, Bill Plunkett, Ray Clift and Gary Floyd

Grace D. Estes
(June 10, 1917 - December 19, 2010)
Grace D. Estes, age 93, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
She was born June 10, 1917 in Grenada, Mississippi to the late Buck and Saba Hollingsworth Denley, Grace was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by:
Son: Randy Estes of Mena, Arkansas
Grandchildren: Elise Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas John Estes of Austin, Texas Jason Estes of Highland Village, Texas
Great-Grandchildren: Elijah Estes of Highland Village, Texas Hannah Grace Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Saba Denley, and her husband, Everette Estes.
Interment for Mrs. Estes will be Hillside cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Odell Nichols
(September 14, 1933 - December 19, 2010)
Odell Nichols, age 77, of Smithville, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010.
He was born September 14, 1933 in Hatfield, Arkansas to the late Austin Brown Nichols and Ara Cusher Nichols. He was united in marriage to Edna Phillips. Mr. Nichols was a truck driver by profession and owner and operator of Nichols Grocery in Smithville, Oklahoma . He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from February 5, 1952 to February 5, 1960 and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors are:

Sons: Odell Nichols and wife Vickey of Smithville, Oklahoma Tony Nichols and wife Lisa of Hatfield, Arkansas
Joseph Nichols and wife Marissa of Broken Bow, Oklahoma
Daughters: Debbie Conley and husband Patrick of Smithville, Oklahoma
Donna Jones and husband Jesse of Smithville, Oklahoma
Brothers: Bobby Nichols of Poteau, Oklahoma Paul Nichols of Poteau, Oklahoma
Sister: Jean Bass of Poteau, Oklahoma

He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Ara Nichols
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:00 a. m. at the Octavia Baptist Church with Brother Ed Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow in the Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Family and friends visitation will be Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 6:00-8:00 p. m.
Pallbearers will be Austin Nichols, Tony Lee Nichols, Donovan Jones, Patrick Conley, Dustin Jones, and Jesse Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be JR Atchley, Jerry Smith, and W. C. Plunkett.

J. M. Martin
(June 21, 1933 - December 14, 2010)
J. M. Martin, age 77, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in Little Rock.
He was born June 21, 1933 in Cherry Hill, Arkansas to the late Marion J. Martin and the late Eva L. Lenard Martin. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Chase. He was a machine operator at U. S. Motors and was also a veteran, serving his country in communications in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. J. M. was the manager of the Southside Flea market and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
He is survived by:
Spouse: Mary Jo Martin of the home
Sons: Jimmy Martin and wife Karen of Mena, Arkansas Lorne Martin and wife Angelia of Hatfield, Arkansas
Grandchildren: Lacey Cearley and husband Jeremy of Mena, Arkansas Skiliera Brock of Hatfield, Arkansas Kenny Brock of Hatfield, Arkansas
Great Grandchild: Kohlea Carmack of Mena, Arkansas
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Eva Martin, a brother Bonnie Martin, 2 sisters, Oma Shinn and Osie Martin, and 2 infant siblings, Baby Girl Martin and Baby Boy Martin.
Graveside services will be Friday, December 17, 2010 at 10:00 a. m. at Nunley Cemetery with Brother Roger Terrell and Brother Nelson Philpot officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
A Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, December 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley White, Loyd Shrum, Ray Hagler, Leon Jordan, Charlie Baker, Hayden Oller, Deborah Shands, Robert Hutchinson, Larry Thweatt, and Jimmy Hankins.

Helen E. McDonald
(June 25, 1930 - December 13, 2010)
Helen E. McDonald, age 80, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 in Ft Smith.
She was born June 25, 1930 in Long Island City, New York to the late Thomas Benedict Lawlor and the late Theresa Schmidt Lawlor. She was united in marriage to the late Clint McDonald. She was a loving homemaker, aunt, cousin and friend. She had the kindest of hearts and was always willing to help.
She is survived by:
Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Theresa Lawlor, her husband, Clint McDonald, by 3 brothers Eugene Lawlor, Frank Lawlor, and Thomas Lawlor, a sister Irene Lawlor, a nephew Patrick Lawlor, and a niece, Lori Davidson.
Mrs. McDonald was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. No services are scheduled at this time.
