Johnson

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Mildred Margarett Johnson, 92, of Shreveport, formerly of Marmaduke, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Christus Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport.

Born in Marmaduke, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Lou McHugh of Metairie, La., and Deloris Smith of Shreveport; two sisters, Elsie Brightwell of Paragould and Verna Williams of Marmaduke; a granddaughter, Deaunna Fleming of Shreveport; and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvie E. "Joe" Johnson; her parents, Tom and Sylvia Vestal; a brother; and seven sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Marmaduke. Kim Bridges and Wayne Brightwell will officiate, and burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Don Echols, Rickie Roberts, Bobby Farmer, Ben Whitaker, Jack Lee, Chuck White and Gene Bennett.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Maupin

WEST MONROE, La. -- Harold N. Maupin, 77, of West Monroe, formerly of Carson, Calif., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at his residence.

Born in Jonesboro, he worked as a supervisor and pipe fitter for Shell Oil Co. He was a World War II Army veteran who lived in Florida before moving to Louisiana eight years ago and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include one son, Ronald W. Maupin of Orange, Calif.; one daughter, Earlinda Meyer of Merritt Island, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Cemetery near Bono, with the Rev. Don Martin officiating. Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

O'Barts

BRADFORD -- Retha Marie Green O'Barts, 58, of Bradford died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 in Little Rock.

Born in Swifton, she worked in housekeeping for Medallion Foods and was a member of Oakland Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, William Henry O'Barts III of Bradford; a son, William Henry "Buddy" O'Barts IV of Newport; a daughter, LaDonna Marie O'Barts of Bradford; two brothers, Jesse Green of Arnold, Mo., and Boyce Green of St. Louis; two sisters, Patricia Lynn Barnett of Swifton and Florence Edith Callahan of St. Louis; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Alford and Nova Mae Hennessee Green, a brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home, with the Rev. Floyd Medlock officiating. Burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery at Portia.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Prestidge

KENSETT -- Shirley Mears Prestidge, 58, of Kensett died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 in Memphis.

Born in Searcy, she was a homemaker and a member of Kensett United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, R.L. Prestidge of Kensett; four sons, Tony Sullins of Weiner, Lesley Kem Sullins of Memphis, Tommy Prestidge of Hesperia, Calif., and David Prestidge of Searcy; one brother, Harold Mears of Searcy; two sisters, Wanda Russell of Emory, Texas, and Connie Evans of Searcy; eight grandchildren, Patrick Sullins, Ryan Sullins, Remell Prestidge, Woody Prestidge, Marlissa Prestidge, Sierra Prestidge, Anna Prestidge and Kayla Prestidge; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Dick Haltom, the Rev. Richard Stegall and Mark Ashcraft officiating. Burial will follow in Kensett Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Paul Williams, Bill Mills, Doug McLaughlin, David Gardner, Charlie Fowler and Everett Alumbaugh.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Kensett United Methodist Church.

Rupard

Bill Rupard, 69, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at his residence.

Arrangements will be announced by Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Smith

PARAGOULD -- Mildred Irene Smith, 90, of Paragould died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Finch Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Edward Smith of Paragould; four daughters, Mary Sailor and Lola Clement, both of Paragould, Velta McNatt of Jonesboro and Sylvia Hampton of Taylor, Mich.; one brother, Felix Tate of Paragould; one sister, Sylvia Wheeler of Mountain View; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Betty Thomas; three sons, Carl James Smith, L.D. Smith and M.J. Smith; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Terry Gage officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Staggs

Dorothy Flagg Staggs, 79, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at her home.

Born at Monette, she lived in the Jonesboro area most of her life. She retired from General Electric after 30 years of service and was a member of Herman Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Staggs of the home; one daughter, Saundria Staggs Warren of Jonesboro; two sisters, Pauline Gage of St. Louis and Clois Wheeler of Stewartsville, Mo.; four grandchildren, Terri Thornbrugh, Greg Harlan, Jeff Harlan and Robin Harlan; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Staggs.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, with Gib Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Greg Harlan, Jeff Harlan, Joshua Harlan, Jerry Taylor, Jim Garrison and Newton Phillips.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nadine Hopper, Lillian Cain, Wanda McCrackin, Bronnie Funk, Nadine Garrison and Anna Lou Slaven.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Bernard's Hospice or Herman Baptist Church, in care of Maurice Watkins, 1412 Craighead Road 118, Bono 72416

Troutman

BETHALTO, Ill. -- Donald Ray Troutman, 61, of Bethalto died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at his residence.

Born in Jonesboro, he was an Army veteran, worked at the Bethalto 76 gas station for many years and attended Meadowbrook First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Hayes Troutman; a son, Curtis Ray Troutman of Bethalto; three daughters, Debbie George of Cabot and Donna Tavares and Barbara Roach, both of Jonesboro; a sister, Mary Guerriera; a stepsister, Nancy Nelms; a stepbrother, Bill Nelms; and six grandchildren, Sara Carr, Zachary Moss, Kimberly Moss, Cody Boyd, Sammie Jo Counsellor and Matthew Tavares.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Ray and Jackie Troutman, and a brother.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with Bob Burton officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Vincent

LAFE -- Delbert Delwayne Vincent, 52, of Lafe died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the VA Hospital in Memphis.

Born in Paragould, he was of the Baptist belief. He worked as a truck driver for Razorback Concrete and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Debra E. Vincent of the home; one son, Zachariah Vincent of Lafe; two daughters, Danielle Vincent of Lafe and Felicia Vincent; his mother, Barbara Johnson; three brothers, Marty Vincent, Tommy Vincent and Wendell Vincent, all of Paragould; and three sisters, Kim Gill and Maria Mosley, both of Paragould, and Jackie Smith of Marmaduke.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert William Vincent.

A memorial service is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at Unity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Songer officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

No visitation has been planned.
