Grace B. Marney
(September 27, 1925 - March 16, 2011)
Grace B. Marney, age 85, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in Hot Springs. She was born September 27, 1925 in Berwyn, Illinois to the late Ward J. Farwell and the late Thelma Grace Warner Farwell. She was united in marriage to Max. H. Brunson (divorced) and G. W. (Tex) Marney (divorced). Grace was an executive secretary for Lubrizol Corporation in Tulsa, OK for 30 years. After retiring, Grace moved to Hot Springs Village in 1991. One of her great passions was animals, and she served for many years for the Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League. She was a tutor at Jessieville High School in Jessieville, AR, and, she was a member and lector at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She is survived by: First Cousins: John W. Watkins of Houston, TX Benjamin T. Leland (by marriage to Julia Sanford Leland, deceased) of Detroit, MI First Cousins Once Removed: Christopher Leland (son of Benjamin and Julia) of Detroit, MI Julia Long (daughter of Benjamin and Julia) of Detroit, MI Jonathan Leland (son of Benjamin and Julia) of Washington, DC Emily Price (daughter of John and Dorothy) of Houston, TX Todd Stetler And hundreds of loyal and loving friends and acquaintances! She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands. Mrs. Marney has donated her body to the University of Arkansas Medical School for research. Her ashes will ultimately be interred with her mother and father in Mena, AR under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. An April memorial service will be announced at a later time. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (HSV, AR), Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League, and the Garland County Animal Welfare Association.

Donald Powell
(September 10, 1936 - March 15, 2011)
Mr. Donald (Don) Powell, age 74, of Hatfield, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at his home.
He was born September 20, 1936 in Snider, Oklahoma to the late Lorne Powell and the late Clarice Clevenger Powell. He was united in marriage to Fila Borders. Don was a carpenter by profession and was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by his loving family and friends.
He is survived by:
Wife: Patsy Powell of Hatfield, Arkansas
Son: Thomas Powell and wife Julia of Mena, Arkansas
Grandchildren: Ayla Powell of Mena, Arkansas Ivy Powell of Mena, Arkansas
Brother: Lorne Powell of Grand Canyon City, Arizona Loyd Powell of Phoenix, Arizona
Sister: Janie Clark of New York
Nephews: Jimmy Powell of Wisconsin
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorne and Clarice Powell and by a son, Donald Powell.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Ron Tilley officiating. Interment follows in Gann Cemetery at Potter under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, March 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bob Borders, Chuck Taylor, Thomas Powell, Kelly Shreve, Justin Shreve, Shane Shreve, and Randall Horton.

Merle Houston Metcalf
(April 10, 1941 - March 14, 2011)
Mr. Merle Houston Metcalf, age 69, of Mena, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Mena Regional Health System.
He was born April 10, 1941 in Packsaddle, Arkansas to the late Robert Lee Metcalf and the late Neta Mae Scantling Metcalf. He was united in marriage to Sue McCain on October 17, 1969. Merle was a graduate of Arkansas Tech where he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. This led him to his employment with the United States Soil Conservation office where he gave 41 years of service. He was also a medic in the National Guard, but most of all, Merle was dedicated to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by:
Wife: Sue Metcalf of the home
Daughters: Teresa Sutton and husband Curtis of Navarre, Florida Stacy Voisin and husband Teddy of Mena, Arkansas
Grandchildren: Trevor and Torrey Voisin of Mena, Arkansas Samantha Sutton of Navarre, Florida
A host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Neta Metcalf, and a brother, Don Metcalf.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at Dallas Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Donnie Edwards and Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Interment will be in Hawkins Cemetery at Parks, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.
Pallbearers will be Daryen Wiles, Jeremy Thornton, Jack Holland, Roy Ferguson, Fred Stringer, Danny Thrailkill, Patrick McDaniel, and Donnie Jewell. Honorary pallbearers are Delter Parks, Ed Stevenson, Miles Aynes, Roy Rowell, and Jerry Johnson.

Vernon Nelson
(March 3, 1933 - March 14, 2011)
Mr. Vernon Nelson, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 in Mena.
He was born March 3, 1933 in Black Fork, Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Ida Bell Posey. Mr. Nelson was an avid fisherman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
He is survived by:
Wife: Ida Posey Nelson of Mena, Arkansas
Mother: Mary Martin of Mena, Arkansas
Daughters: Judy Clanin of Mena, Arkansas Jo Ann Edwards of Dickson, Tennessee
Son: Kenneth Nelson and wife Megan of Las Vegas, Nevada
8 Grandchildren 9 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Lavonia May Nelson and his brother, Norman Lyles.
Mr. Nelson was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A memorial service will be Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 6:30 p. m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with Brother Keith Rose officiating.

Mary Juanita Denton
(October 2, 1937 - March 12, 2011)
Mary Juanita Denton, age 73, of Ludlow, Oklahoma passed away March 12, 2011 at her home.
She was born October 2, 1937 at Ludlow, Oklahoma to the late Robert Moore and late Hazel Smith Moore. Juanita was married to the love of her life for forty-seven years, Gary Denton. She was a loving homemaker and loved spending time with family and friends. Juanita enjoyed gardening, playing cards, canning, fishing, and the races. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by:
Husband: Gary Denton of Ludlow, Oklahoma
Sons: Randy Cline and wife Pat of Waldron, Arkansas Don Cline of Honobia, Oklahoma Gary Dale Denton and wife Jessica of Pickens, Oklahoma
Daughters: Cathy Gortemiller and husband Phillip of Mena, Arkansas Mary Ann Webb and husband Glen of Hochatown, Oklahoma
Grandchildren: Adam, Misty, Josh, Jessy, Samantha, Jennifer, Glen, Kristen, Brooklynn, and Dacoda.
Ten Great-grandchildren and a host of friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Hazel Moore, a brother, Milferd and a sister, Omedia Martin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 10:00 a. m. at Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Josh Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Ludlow Cemetery in Ludlow, Oklahoma under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Family and friends visitation will be Monday, March 14, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p. m.
Pallbearers will be Mike Cline, Phillip Gortemiller, Travis Jacobs, Corey Pollard, Kenneth Denton and Jeff Denton. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Cook, David Miller, and Jerry Denton

Jessie C. "J. C. " Broach
(September 3, 1925 - March 9, 2011)
Mr. Jessie C. “J. C. ” Broach, age 85, of Mena, Arkansas, formerly of Cove, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011.
He was born September 3, 1925 in Washita, Arkansas to the late Jessie Thomas Broach and the late Marianna Stuart Broach. He was united in marriage to Faye Martin Broach on July 16, 1945 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He was a timber worker by profession and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by:
Sons: Jessie Broach of Cove, Arkansas Alfred Broach of Cove, Arkansas Glen Broach of Cove, Arkansas Carl Broach of Vandervoort, Arkansas
Daughters: Betty Holley of Dove Creek, Colorado Ann Casey of Cove, Arkansas Frances Bates of Cove, Arkansas Margaret Miller of Cove, Arkansas Edna Fern Dixon of Cove, Arkansas Doris Dixon of Cove, Arkansas Peggy Wilkinson of Cove, Arkansas Alice Tyler of Plunkettville, Oklahoma
Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Marianna Broach, his wife, Faye Broach, a son, Thomas Broach, a granddaughter, Loretta, and 2 grandsons, Eddie and Freddie.
Graveside services will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at Westview Cemetery at Cove with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general. Pallbearers will be Chris Broach, Mike Broach, Matthew Broach, Tom Green, Jearl Wilkinson and Andy Miller.

Dorothy Lee Arthur
(December 10, 1923 - March 9, 2011)
Dorothy Lee Arthur, age 87, of Mena, Arkansas, formally of Hatfield, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in Mena.
She was born December 10, 1923 in Checotah, Oklahoma to the late John Harrison and Bertha Lee Parton Roberts. Dorothy was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert David Arthur on September 7, 1973. He preceded her in death in January of 1998. Dorothy married T. C. Grant in March of 1941. They lived in Texas and had 3 sons. T. C. was killed in a car accident on December 20, 1946. Dorothy and sons moved back to Cove, Arkansas. In March of 1948 she married Cersa Elmore Toon. Dorothy is survived by 3 sons, Thomas C. Grant, III and wife Consuela (Connie) of Cove, Arkansas, John Lee grant of Plunkettville, Oklahoma Billy Frank Grant and wife Emra (Kathy) of De Queen, Arkansas And 2 daughters, Ruth Toon Starr and husband Norris of Mena, Arkansas Rose Mary Toon Huff and husband Rickey of Watson, Oklahoma 10 grandchildren: Clarissa Grant of Benton, Arkansas, T. C. and wife Audrey Grant of Mena, Arkansas, Dorothy and husband Joe Caperonis of Las Vegas, Nevada, John and wife Tammy Grant of St. Louis, Missouri, Evelyn and husband Paul Goodwin of El Cajon, California, Specialist Billy Frank Grant of the U. S. Army, Gerald Heifner of De Queen, Arkansas, Shane Starr of Mena, Arkansas, Jed and wife Angela Huff of Satsuma, Alabama, and Patricia and husband Chris Stevens of Nashville, Arkansas 17 great-grandchildren: Mark, Melissa, Marcela, Justin, Amberly, Rebecca, Asia Elizabeth, Katie, Austin, Bryson, Dawson, Ethan, Isaiah, Alexandra, Erica, Payton, and Haven. 3 great-great-grandchildren: Dorian, Ava and Grant Also survived by 2 brothers: Tom and wife Nurene Roberts of Cove, Arkansas and Fred and wife Theresa of Benton, Arkansas 1 foster sister: Doris and husband Leon Woodard of Gillham, Arkansas 3 sisters-in-law: Ethie Roberts, Peggy Roberts and Dee Roberts, all of Cove, Arkansas Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Roberts, and step-mother, Cannie Youmans Roberts, her husbands, T. C. Grant in 1946, Robert D. Arthur in 1998, and also husband Cersa Toon, 6 brothers, John Henry Roberts, U. S. Air Force, World War II, Elmer Carson Roberts, William (Bill) Raymond Roberts, Robert (Bob) Harrison Roberts, Charles Tony Roberts and an infant brother, Utal Carl Roberts, 1 step-brother, Charles (Buster) Youmans, 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan D. Taylor and husband Tom, Bertha Bergstram and husband George and 1 sister-in-law, Naomi Roberts.
Many may remember her as the “Little Lady” who cleaned roads around Hatfield for the past 25 years. She saved cans and sold them for charity money. She gave every penny of can money to cancer patients, or to someone whose home had burnt. She always looked for someone in need of help. Mrs. Arthur received recognition for her efforts of keeping roads around Hatfield free of trash. This included a letter from the Arkansas Highway Department and several awards from the community of Hatfield.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene at Cove with Brother Steve Bradley officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Cove under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
A visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening, March 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Heifner, Arbus (Slim) Manns, Henry Callahan, John Roberts, Paul Starks, and Bill John Davis.
Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Rose and Hugh Ladd.

Shirley Faye Nickols
(August 18, 1940 - March 14, 2011)
Shirley Faye Nichols age 70 of Mena died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Mena Manor Skilled Nursing Center. She was born on Sunday, August 18, 1940 to George and Mabel Audavee Johnston Craig in Hartley, Arkansas.
Shirley was a lived in the moment and always made the best out of any situation. Her family and her close friends were very important to her and loved to spend time with them. Shirley was a beautician by trade and owned and operated two different beauty shops, one was The Foxy Lady and the other one was The Best Little Hair House. She loved to make her clients look beautiful. Other interests included knitting washcloths for people, western country, blues and big band music, and dancing. Dancing gave Shirley the greatest joy in life. Shirley was a member of the Rebecca’s in Hatfield, Lady Elks, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include cousins and many close friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with cremation services entrusted to Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the St. Agnes Catholic Church, 203 8th Street, Mena, Arkansas 71953.
