Freda Brewer Harrison

Freda Brewer Harrison, age 82, of Mena, Arkansas, formerly of Hatfield, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Mena.
She was born November 30, 1928 in Hatfield, Arkansas to the late Oscar Brewer and the late Lula Howard Brewer. She was united in marriage to the late Tom Harrison on June 20, 1946. She was of the Baptist faith and was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by:
Sons: Larry Lee Harrison and wife Darlene of Hatfield, Arkansas Weldon Charles Harrison of Tampa, Florida
Daughters: Sandra Ann Rath and husband James of Round Rock, Texas Elaine Williams and husband Joe of Hatton, Arkansas Barbara Kay Golden and husband Jimmie of Mena, Arkansas
11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Lula Brewer, her husband Tom Harrison, 5 brothers, Pete, Norman, Charles, Bill and Willie Brewer, 3 sisters, Ruby Ruddell, Lois Godwin, and Allie Brewer, and 2 grandchildren, Jason Meeks and Makayla Rath.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 3:00 p. m. at Six Mile Cemetery with Brother Victor Rowell and Brother Brad Justice officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday evening, October 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Rath, Larry Williams, Stewart Meeks, Travis Myers, Dakota Schaffer, Jerry Frank, and Aaron

Gene Ervin Head
February 7, 1933 - October 5, 2011
Gene Head, age 78, of both Hurst, Texas and Mena, Arkansas died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his home in Mena. He was born on Thursday, February 7, 1933 to Elmer Daniel and Ethel Anice Cole Head in Mena, Arkansas.
Gene served his country in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud to serve his country in 1950 to 1952 and he turned 18 and 19 in Korea. After he returned home, he started working as an auto mechanic; he also worked at Bell Helicopter then at J. C. Penney’s as a service manager. He loved to work on cars and did for many years. Gene served on the advisory board of Tarrant Junior College in auto repair. Gene also enjoyed working the Fort Worth, Texas Stock Show for over 20 years. He also was a construction contractor and helped to build three of his four children’s houses. Gene was a family man and loved spending time with his wife Christine and his four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was everything to them. He coached his sons in football and baseball for many years when they were young boys. Gene enjoyed collecting. Gene attended Bellevue Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas. Gene will be missed by all who know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Chris Grimes; one brother, Alan “Shorty” Head and one sister, Opal Blackwell.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Christine Head of the home; two sons and daughters in law, David and Kimie Head of Mena and Robert and Kay Head of Jacksonville, Arkansas; two daughters and sons in law, Susan and Gary Vaught of Jacksonville, Arkansas and Lisa and Jimmy Rackley of Mena; three brothers, Elba Head, Dewey Head and Roger Head all of Mena; eight grandchildren, Katie Beth Head, Ethan Head, Lucas Head all of Mena, Wesley Vaught and wife, Jennifer of Cabot, Arkansas, Jonathan Vaught and wife Ashley of Mt. Vernon, Arkansas, Stephanie Head of Fort Worth, Texas, Crystal Rackley of Mena and Chase Rackley of Fort Smith, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 3:00 P. M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Ink. Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Head, Jason Head, Justin Head, Josh Head, Andy Foster, Randy Foster, Danny Head, Darrel Foster and Larry Walker.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the local men who served with in the Korean War.

Grace B. Turner
October 22, 1921 - October 5, 2011
Grace B. Turner age 89 of Mena died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Saturday, October 22, 1921 to Roy Lee and Ola Miles Titsworth Adams in Savannah, Oklahoma.
Grace finished the 8th grade in Arizona and graduated high school in Arkansas. She worked for many years as a cashier at Lyric Theatre; also did alterations at B&B Cleaners; was a seamstress for her family. She also did home sales and was a housewife. She loved children, holidays, crochet, animals and bowling and was rewarded with hugs, kisses, thank you notes, happy pets and bowling trophies. Grace worshipped in many ways, in churches, and in the first tabernacle, “The Earth,” its people, creatures and all the wonders within. These are the greatest blessings any of us will ever have.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands Frobin Bain and Pog Turner and one brother Roy G. Adams.
Survivors include one daughter, Ramona Taylor and husband, Jeff of Mena; grandchildren, John C. Cates and wife, Lynn of Farmersville, Texas and Jefferson L. Cates of Dallas, Texas, Min Ha Cates of Irving, Texas; two great grandchildren, J. Cody Cates of Katy, Texas and Phoebe Leeloo Cates of Dallas, Texas; with other family, friends and neighbors.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:00 A. M. at the Boardcamp Cemetery with Reverend Gary Garrett officiating. Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Karen Joyce Allen
May 31, 1941 - October 4, 2011
Karen Joyce Allen age 70 of Mena died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs. She was born on Saturday, May 31, 1941 to JT and Alta Orilla Purtell Cure in Crosbyton, Texas.
Karen enjoyed many things in life and her family was most important to her. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were very special to her. Karen also cared for the less fortunate one in her pathway of life. She would help anyone that need it and always was a friend to those who always didn’t have one. Some of Karen’s hobbies were dancing, fishing, playing her piano, cooking her family’s favorite dishes, such as, enchiladas, corn bread dressing and her fresh baked pies. She also had a running game of Yahtzee that lasted 47 years with her husband Don. She enjoyed be in nature, watching the birds and raising a beautiful flower beds. Karen was an avid Razorback fan and enjoyed the basketball and football teams. For many years Karen worked at Holly Springs Realty as an Executive Broker and just retired a couple of years ago. Karen attended the First United Methodist Church in Mena.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jason Allen and one brother Ronald Cure.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Don W. Allen of the home; one son and daughter in law, Aaron and Diane Allen of Shiloh, Illinois; two daughters and sons in law, Rachel and Kevin Krest of Winslow, Arkansas and Sarah and Jeff Sone of Fayetteville; one sister, Lori Mandir of Grand Prairie, Texas; seven grandchildren, Addison Brandkamp of Winslow, Hannah Brandkamp of Rogers, Ethan Neeley of Winslow, Jason Allen and Stone Allen both of Shiloh, Illinois, Cooper Sone and Carter Sone both of Fayetteville; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2:00 P. M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena with Reverend Gary Harrison officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
Memorials can be made to the Salvation Army, 605 Magnolia Avenue, Mena, Arkansas 71953.

Mary E. Gibbons
(July 29, 1922 - October 3, 2011)
Mary E. Gibbons, age 89, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 in Mena.
She was born July 29, 1922 in McCurtain County, Oklahoma to the late Press Bell and the late Ella Yarborough Bell. She was united in marriage to the late Lee Gibbons. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by:
Daughters: Patsy Tarlton and husband Bill of Cove, Arkansas Sandra Cecil and husband Larry of Cove, Arkansas Barbara Gibbons of Cove, Arkansas
7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild
She was preceded in death by her parents, Press and Ella Bell, her husband, Lee Gibbons, 3 brothers, Arthur, Preston and Leonard Bell, and 2 sisters, Minnie Bell and Naida Boehler.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene with Brother Lewis Martin and Brother Steve Bradley officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
There will be a meal for the family at the home of Patsy Tarlton, 233 Polk 23, Cove, Arkansas, prior to the service.

Lorene "June" Whisenhunt
(June 1, 1930 - October 2, 2011)
Lorene “June” Whisenhunt, age 81, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011 in Fayetteville. She was born June 1, 1930 in Estancia, New Mexico to the late Homer Armstrong and the late Lucy Hampton Armstrong. She was united in marriage to Calvin C. “ Pete” Whisenhunt. She was owner and operator of Pete’s Malt Shop from 1956 to1966 with her husband and was also a supervisor at Teague Leather Goods in Mena for 27 years and retired from Rose Upholstery. Mrs. Whisenhunt was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and will be dearly missed. She is survived by: Husband: Calvin C. “Pete” Whisenhunt of Mena, Arkansas Son: Kenneth Whisenhunt of Springdale, Arkansas Brother: Raymond Armstrong of Satellite Beach, Florida Grand-daughters: Laura Mattson of Lemoore, California and Crystal Roberts of Sacramento, California 3 Great Grandchildren: Kyle Wallingsford of Camden, AR and Samantha and Zachary Mattson of Lemoore, CA She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lucy Armstrong, and several brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Allie Edwards
(January 14, 1912 - October 1, 2011)
Allie Edwards, age 99, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, October 01, 2011 in Mena.
She was born January 14, 1912 in Provo, Arkansas to the late Paul Sherman and Dora Faulkner Sherman. Allie was married to the late Alfred Edwards. She was a loving homemaker and enjoyed her family. She was a loving sister and aunt and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by:
Sisters: Clarene Helms of Provo, Arkansas Virginia Abney of DeQueen, Arkansas
Brother: Will D. Sherman of Provo, Arkansas
Numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dora Sherman, her husband, Alfred Edwards.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel in Mena with Brother Rusty Lewis and Brother Dardanelle Townsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home
Pallbearers will be Bill Manning, Jamey Reeves, Brent Fountain, Mickey Helms, Danny Minton, and Marcus Jones.

Laverne Rushing Waller
(February 4, 1938 - November 29, 2011)
Laverne Rushing Waller age 73, of Grannis, Arkansas passed away November 29, 2011 in Ft. Smith.
She was born February 4, 1938 in Wickes, Arkansas to the late John Truly Wilcher and the late Ferrie Meyers Wilcher. She was united in marriage to the Thomas Edward Rushing until his passing, and then to the late Thomas Lee Waller. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. Mrs. Waller was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by:
Son: Arland Rushing and wife Donna of Alma, Arkansas
Daughters: Fonda Everhart of Euless, Texas Karen Wall of Grannis, Arkansas
Brother: Robert Lee Wilcher of DeQueen, Arkansas
Sister: Lavada Price of Wickes, Arkansas
8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren
Numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ferrie Wilcher, her husbands, Thomas Edward Rushing and Thomas Lee Waller, a son, Uland Rushing, a daughter, Theresa Friend, and 2 brothers, Dennis and James Wilcher.
Graveside services will be Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at Daniel Cemetery with Brother Chris Burke officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation is general.

Agnes Lenore Habeger
(September 4, 1938 - November 25, 2011)
Agnes Lenore Habeger, age 73, of Mena, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at her home.
She was born September 4, 1938 in Prescott, Arizona to the late William H. Hooker and the late Antoinette Downs. Ms. Habeger was a member of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and friend.
Survivors are:
Sons: Randy Ryan of Van Nuys, California Lach Ryan of Las Vegas, Nevada Tony Habeger of Mena, Arkansas Daughters: Pam Adkins of Indianapolis, Indiana Cindi Jenkins of Savannah, Georgia Diana Habeger of Mena, Arkansas Sally Habeger Restine of Mena, Arkansas Linda O’Brien of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Trixie Ingram of Mena, Arkansas
Ex-Husband: David Habeger of Cove, Arkansas
Ms. Habeger was sent for cremation. A memorial service will be Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Rodger Terrell officiating. Services are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
