Ruth S. Carey age 97 of Cove, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Mena Regional Health System.
She was born Sunday, December 7, 1913 in Colorado.
Ruth was a simple woman and enjoyed her life with her husband of 57 years, Ivan Carey. He precedes her in death, along with her parents.
She enjoyed listening to music and playing Bingo. She also enjoyed people visiting with her.
Mrs. Ruth was sent for cremation under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. No services are planned at this time.

Louise Mabry Davis
(September 27, 1914 - November 1, 2011)
Louise Mabry Davis, age 97, a long time resident of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at her home.
She was born September 27, 1914 in Valliant, Oklahoma to the late George Mabry and the late Nita Cromwell Mabry. She was united in marriage to the late Carroll Glenn Davis on April 11, 1946 for 50 years. She was a schoolteacher for many years in Valliant and McAlester, Oklahoma and also in Hatfield, Arkansas. She and her husband were the owners of the Bogg Springs Bed and Breakfast. Mrs. Davis enjoyed many other activities, and was active as a Lioness and in her local Gardening Club. She was strong in her faith and was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was a loving sister-in-law, cousin, and friend to many, and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by:
Sisters-in-Law: Evelyn Michael of Hatfield, Arkansas Sara Davis of Dyer, Arkansas
First Cousins: Peggy Long of Haworth, Oklahoma Roberta Jean Owen of Bartlesville, Oklahoma Nora Henry of Atlanta, Texas Delores Glaze of Durant, Oklahoma
Special Friend: Jim Redman of Mena, Arkansas
Several other cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nita Mabry, by her husband Carroll Glenn Davis, and by a brother and sister-in-law, J. P. and Mildred Mabry.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena with Reverend Gary Harrison officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Hatfield under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.
Pallbearers will be Drew Davis, Dwight Davis, Dirk Hamlen, Jack Mabry, Joe Mabry, and Jim Redman. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Gardner and Reynolds Gardner.

Sandra Lynn Springmeyer, age 53, of Mena, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Mena.
She was born September 25, 1958 in Castro Valley, California to the late James Jeffries and the late Betty Pacheco Jeffries. She was united in marriage to Bruce Springmeyer. Sandra was a loving homemaker, wife, sister and friend.
Survivors are:
Husband: Bruce Springmeyer of Mena, Arkansas
Brother: Micheal Jeffries of Waterford, California
Sister: Kathy Fowler of Livermore, California Debbie Triggs of Spokane, Washington
Sister-in-law: Karen Tollett
Many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Betty Jeffries.
Graveside services will be Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at the Wilton Cemetery in Wilton, Arkansas with Eric Nelson officiating. Services are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Hester Thompson
(October 19, 1914 - December 26, 2011)
Hester Thompson, age 97, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 in Mena.
She was born October 19, 1914 in Big Fork, Arkansas to the late Robert Hayes Putman and the late Alice Sophronia Smith Putman. She was united in marriage to the late John W. Thompson. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and needlework and she loved the outdoors. She was a member of the Oak Ave Church of Christ and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by:
Children: Laura Garner of Little Rock, Arkansas Kenneth Thompson and wife Mary of Lilburn, Georgia Marsha Riley and husband Patrick of Mena, Arkansas
Grandchildren: Monika Smith and husband Roger of Little Rock, Arkansas Michael Thompson and wife Marta of Toronto, Ontario John Thompson of Lilburn, Georgia Erin Stepp and husband Randy of Mena, Arkansas Mark Riley and wife Christin of Fayetteville, Arkansas

Services will be Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 1:00 p. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Steven Morris officiating. Interment follows at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Big Fork under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Michael Thompson, John Thompson, Mark Riley, Randy Stepp and Roger Smith.

Erma Dunagan
(November 18, 1938 - December 20, 2011)
Erma Dunagan, age 73 of Plunkettville, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Ft. Smith.
She was born November 18, 1938 in Highland, Arkansas to the late B. F. Ryals and the late Leona Priddy Ryals. She was united in marriage to the late Rue Dunagan. She was a homemaker and an avid gardener and she attended the Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Dunagan was a loving mother, grandmother, step-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by:
Daughters: Rosa Abernathy of Conway, Arkansas Oretta Malone of Mulberry, Arkansas
Son: Clayton Wallace and wife Melissa of Plunkettville, Oklahoma
Granddaughter: Renee Abernathy of Conway, Arkansas
Step-grandchildren: Logan and Mason Brown of Plunkettville, Oklahoma
She was preceded in death by her parents, B. F. and Leona Ryals, by her husband, Rue Dunagan, a brother, John Ryals and by a sister, Ina Mae Jones.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 23, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Steve Bradley officiating. Interment follows in Cherry Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday evening, December 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John David Ryals, Jeff Holcomb, Jasper Hartley, Jimmy Crawford, Robert Abernathy, and Renee Abernathy. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan and Mason Brown.

Laura Carney

Laura Carney, age 98, of Smithville, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Broken Bow.
She was born December 26, 1912 in Beachton, Oklahoma to the late Elias Cusher and the late Sina Wilson Cusher. She was united in marriage to the late Edmond Carney in 1937. She was a homemaker and of Presbyterian faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by:
Son: Elton Carney and wife Rozetta of Smithville, Oklahoma
8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Sina Wilson Cusher, her husband, Edmond Carney, a daughter, Leila Spradlin, a son-in-law, Vernon Spradlin, Sr. and a grandson, Vernon Spradlin, Jr.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 23, 2011at 2:00 p. m. at Big Lick Presbyterian Church in Smithville, Oklahoma with Reverend Gene Wilson officiating. Interment follows in Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

MELVIN GREEN

Melvin Green, known affectionately as Uncle Melvin by many, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 in Mena. He was born September 9, 1925 in to the late Levi Jefferson Green and the late Lois Jones Green. He was a merchant marine and was also a veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Green was of the Baptist faith and was a loved dearly by his family and friends who will miss him in his passing. His is survived by his family: Chris and Gary Cox and Jason of Mena, Arkansas Elizabeth, Scott, Audrey and family, and Jerica and family of Mena, Arkansas Mike and Starr Green and family of Broken Bow, Oklahoma Patrick Green and Lori, James, Tye, Bailee, Jackson, and Ashley of Mena, Arkansas Frank Sandine of Mena, Arkansas Kenneth Green and Alene and family of Rose Berg, Oregon And many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Lois Geen. His wife, Marie Green, a brother, Bill Green and a cousin, Jess Godsby. Graveside services will be Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 10 a. m. at White Oak Cemetery with Brother Dardanelle Townsley officiating. Visitation will be general. Mr. Jack Joseph Smith, age 61 Octavia, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011. He was born August 24, 1950 in Mena, Arkansas to William Joseph Smith and to the late Juanita Benton Smith. He was united in marriage to Katy Moore. He was a logger by profession and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Smith was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was also a man of God, and his first service was always to Him and to his family, who will miss him greatly, as will his many friends and those who knew him. He was born December 7, 1940 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Charles William Sargent and the late Irene Monk Sargent. He was a truck driver by profession and was in the U. S. Army, serving as a peace keeper in the demilitarized zone during the Korean conflict. Mr. Sargent was a loving brother, stepfather, step-grandfather, and friend and will be missed by his family and friends.
