Flossie Mary Posey Cochran, age 83, of Hatton, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Ft. Smith.
She was born April 3, 1928 in Highland, Arkansas to the late Ed Posey and the late Fanny Miller Posey. She was united in marriage to the late James Franklin Cochran. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. Mrs. Cochran was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by:
Sons: Donald Cochran of Cherry Hill, Arkansas Ricky Dale Cochran of Grannis, Arkansas John David Cochran of Wickes, Arkansas Joseph Lee Cochran of Wickes, Arkansas James F. Cochran of Mena, Arkansas

Brother: William Chambers of Tulsa, Oklahoma
Sister: Betty Lou Miller of Mena, Arkansas
15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Fanny Posey, her husband James Cochran, brothers, Odey and Joe Posey, sisters, Frances Posey, Dossie Johnson and Cynthia Posey, and an infant son, Billy Cochran.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Andy Kennedy officiating. Interment follows in Cherry Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation is general.

He was born April 15, 1976 in Torrance, California to the late Ernest Parker, Jr. and Dorothy Shoaf Parker. He was united in marriage to Erin Gershner. He worked for Tyson foods and enjoyed fishing and hunting. James was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed by his loving family and friends.

James Michael Genung
July 29, 1954 - December 5, 2011
James Michael Genung Sr., age 57, of Mena died Monday, December 5, 2011 at his home. He was born on Thursday, July 29, 1954 to James Haswell and Mable Ruth Mitchell Genung in Niles, Michigan.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, going camping on Lake Barren in Niles and then at Lake Wilhelmina in Mena. As a young boy, Michael was a Boy Scout and learned how to go camping and build fires, so when he had his son, he became a Scout Master to instill the same values he had learned as a young boy. Michael was a very good shade tree mechanic and enjoyed it very much. Michael worked at the Lime Tree Inn for 11 years as the front desk clerk. Some of Michael’s hobbies included watching Star Trek; he was a true Treky!! He also supported the Humane Society. Michael was a loving father, brother, and friend; he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter in law Rita Genung .
Survivors include one son, James Michael Genung Jr. of Iowa; his dear friend, Carman Echevarria of South Bend, Indiana and her three children, Victor, Ralph and Kasey; one brother and sister in law, Roger and Barbara Genung of Delight, Arkansas; one sister, Shirley Poznanski of Niles, Michigan; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Genung is being sent for cremation with these services entrusted to the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. A memorial graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Mission Hills Cemetery at 2:00 P. M. in Niles, Michigan.
Memorials and flowers can be made in care of Shirley Poznanski, 520 Lake Street, Niles Michigan 49120.

Jimmy Norvel Parker
September 16, 1941 - December 5, 2011
Jimmy Norvel Parker, age 70, of Mena passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at his home. He was born to Walter Thomas and Cora Bell Powell Parker at Gainesville, Texas on Tuesday, September 16, 1941.
Jimmy served his country proudly as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force where he retired after twenty two years. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. His military career was his proudest accomplishment. He was a loving father and grandfather.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and flying radio controlled aircrafts. He was a member of the Big Fork Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
He is survived by one son, Bruce Parker and wife Candelaria of Saginaw, Texas; one daughter, Anita Elaine Martinez and husband, Alfonso of Cheyenne, Wyoming; former spouse, Betty Jean Parker of Haltom City, Texas; former father-in-law, James Newman of Halton, Texas; three brothers, Ralph Parker, Ronald Parker and Richard Parker all of Shreveport, Louisiana; three sisters, Barbara Vones of New Jersey, Linda Parker and Aleta McDonald both of Bossier City, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Jessica Martinez of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ryan Martinez of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
No service has been planned at this time. Cremation entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home.

Floy Amilee Smith
(January 17, 1930 - December 4, 2011)
Floy Amilee Phillips Smith, age 81, of Octavia, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
She was born January 17, 1930 in Davis, Oklahoma to the late Melvin Phillips and the late Willie Belle Webb Phillips. She was united in marriage to R. H. “Doc” Smith until his passing, and then to the late Willis Smith. She was a schoolteacher for 24 years in the Watson School District and was a member of the Octavia Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith enjoyed spending time outdoors. One of her favorite pastimes was gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom will miss her dearly. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by:
Daughters: Yvonne Barnes and husband Rudy of Octavia, Oklahoma LaJuan Hooper of Octavia, Oklahoma
Step-daughters: Helen King, Pearl Christensen, Creta Courtney, Lou Whisenhunt, Darlene Herrington, Toni Brown and Denise Brown
Grandchildren: Eric Barnes of Antlers, Oklahoma Andrew Barnes of Wister, Oklahoma MaRissa Nichols and husband Joe of Octavia, Oklahoma Billy Hooper and wife Morgan of Howe, Oklahoma
Great- Grandchildren: Kayli and Whitley Nichols of Octavia, Oklahoma
Numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at Octavia Baptist Church with Brother Ed Rogers officiating. Interment follows in Octavia Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.
Pallbearers are Billy Hooper, Eric Barnes, Andrew Barnes, Joe Nichols, Rudy Barnes, and Gailon Kemp.

William "Jack" Mack Miner, Jr.
(November 23, 1943 - December 2, 2011)
William “Jack” Mack Miner, Jr. age 68, of Y-City, Arkansas passed away Friday, December 02, 2011 in Y-City.
Jack was born November 23, 1943 in Y-City, Arkansas to the late William Mack Miner, Sr. and the late Ruby Mae Pettit Miner. He was married to Joyce Stovall Miner. Jack was a volunteer fire fighter for the Y-City Fire department and secretary - treasurer for the Chant cemetery. Jack served his country in the United States Navy and was a truck driver by profession. He was a loving husband, father, brother and a friend to all who knew him and will be missed by all.
He is survived by:

Son: Don Gray of Henderson, Texas
Sister: Sharon Pace and husband Mickey of Y-City, Arkansas
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruby Miner, and one sister, Maxine Shaddon
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 06, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at the Boles Freewill Baptist in Y-City with Brother Pat Ray Biggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Chant Cemetery in Y-City under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Pallbearers are fellow firefighters, Albert Rogers, Robert Slagle, Steve Chesnut, Tommy Harberson, Carl Singleton and Royce Rose.

Theresa "Nancy" Williamson
(February 28, 1916 - December 2, 2011)
Theresa “Nancy” Williamson of Sherman, Texas, formerly of Vandervoort, Arkansas passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 in Sherman, at age 95.
On December 2nd, God looked around his garden and saw an empty place. As you slept, he looked down onto your tired face, put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful and he always takes the best, he knew you were suffering and knew you needed rest. He took you up to Heaven with hands gentle and kind. You are not alone, as part of us went with you. There to meet you was the love of your life, Jackson, Daughter, Carol, Mom, Grace, Dad, Paul, Sisters, Tiny, Dolly, Bernie, and Brothers Mike, Johnny and Paul. You will be missed by daughter Mary Roberts and husband Alton of Sherman, Texas and daughter Helen Kelley of Dodd City, Texas and all your 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. And also nieces and nephews in Colorado, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. At this time we would also like to say a sincere thanks to all the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, special thanks to the staff of Sweet Pea Circle where Mom spent her last days and a heartfelt thanks to the Sherman Health Care Center Staff where all of the above worked together and g ave her the care we were no longer able to at home. God bless all of you and keep you in his care. A private burial will take place in Cove, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service at a later date for friends and family.

Larry Wayne "Bear" Barton
(November 16, 1958 - December 2, 2011)
Mr. Larry Wayne “Bear” Barton, age 53, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 in Little Rock.
He was born November 16, 1958 in Mena, Arkansas to James “Jim” Barton and to the late Charlotte Joan Harrison Barton. Bear worked for many years at Street and Performance in Mena but his passion was music and he was a true artist on the harmonica. He played in bands around the states and for many different venues…never failing to make friends everywhere he went with his friendliness and winning personality. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend and will be truly missed by all those who loved and knew him. He was “known” by most and “loved” by all.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Barton.
Memorial services for Bear will be held Thursday, December 08, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, 2:00 p. m. with Brother officiating. Services are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Richard Owen Garrett Jr.
October 4, 1939 - December 2, 2011
Richard Owen Garrett Jr., age 72, of Cherry Hill, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, October 4, 1939 to Richard Owen Sr. and Dolores Lund Garrett in Jacksonville, Florida.
Richard worked for many years at the Quilt Etc. in Mena for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Robert Garrett.
Survivors include his wife, Janelle Garret of Fort Smith; four sons, James R. Garrett of Big Fork, Tucker Ray Garrett of Jacksonville, Florida, Richard J. Garrett of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Alan Garrett of Hot Springs; one daughter, Cindy Goad of Mena; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
No services are planned at this time.

George Clinton Bowles
October 7, 1927 - December 2, 2011
George Clinton Bowles, age 84 of Mena, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 at his home. He was born Friday, October 7, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana to William Edgar and Elise Marie Vegas Bowles. He was united in marriage November 7, 1945 to Ercel Freddie Scott in Waldron, Arkansas.
He went to work at the shipyards in Vancouver, Washington at age 16and was a supervisor by age of 17. He held numerous jobs in his early years including working for Bell and Howell, Johnson and Johnson, Seeburg, and Swanson Coffee and Tea Company. He finally settled in Chicago, Illinois where he worked as a lab technician for Durkee Famous Foods for 16 years. He also worked for the Chicago Police Department as an undercover officer. Upon moving to Mena, he went to work for the Polk County Road Department for 12 years until his retirement in 1989.
He accepted Jesus as his Savior in April 1964 and was baptized shortly thereafter. He became ordained as a Deacon on May 3, 1964 into the New Decade Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. In Arkansas, he attended Corinth Church of God before his health declined.
George was a friendly, talkative man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed building and making wood items, including numerous walking canes of sumac which he delighted in giving away to those in need. He touched many in his lifetime and will surely be missed, but there is rejoicing in Heaven at his home going.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son George Kenneth Bowles Jr., one brother, William Bowles, three sisters, Edna Mae Mittlesteadt, Virginia Natalie Bryant, and Elaine Bowles.
Survivors include two sons, James R. Bowles Sr. of Mena, Larry Neal Bowles and wife Christine of Mena; three daughters, Janet Elaine Madison and husband Marvin, Robbie Ellen Wilhite and Glynda Elizabeth Pearce all of Mena; one sister, Mary Alice Slaten of Waldron, seventeen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on December 12, 2011 at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 10:00 A. M. with Brother Floyd Folsom officiating. A visitation will be held Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p. m. at the Bowser Family Chapel in Mena. Interment will be at Buffalo Cemetery at Boles, Arkansas.

Alice Marie Jones
February 6, 1940 - December 2, 2011
Alice Marie Jones, age 71, of Mena, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at her home. She was born on Friday, February 6, 1940 to Fredrick Josiah and Doris Kazee Heeter in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Alice was a devout Christian and enjoyed reading her Bible every day. She believed it was very important to make sure all who knew her also knew the way to Salvation as well. She was a faithful member of the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church in Mena. Alice worked for 35 years as a Nurse’s Aide in Indiana, DeQueen and Mena. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and fishing for Brim with Harold, her soul mate of the last 16 years. She was very proud of her children and loved them all deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 34 years Thomas (T. L. ) Jones; one sister Shirley Flowers and one grandson Michael Thomas Joe Moore.
Survivors include her precious soul mate, Harold Dean Fields of Mena; three sons, Carl Jones and wife, Kathy of Portsmouth, Virginia, Paul Jones of Mena, Arkansas, Lloyd Fields and wife, Regina of Mena; five daughters, Lisa Moore and husband, Don of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Loxi King and husband, Kevin of Richmond, Kentucky, Kate Worthington and Partner Laurie Grosscup of Columbia, Maryland, Lisa Falls and husband, Ronnie of Mena, Pam Bradley and husband, Dean of Struthers, Ohio; one brother, Bob Heeter of Oceola, Indiana; one sister, Pauline Heeter of Mishawaka, Indiana; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, December 5, 2011at 2:00 P. M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Dr. Donnie Edwards officiating. No visitation is planned.
